stressed about Chef Mickeys

I am leaving for Disney on Wednesday and I have made all my PS's and am very excited for the rest. we picked. BUT I am very torn on whether we should go to Chef Mickeys. We have 9 o'clock dinner reservations for the day we go to Magic Kingdon. The is the most childlike park and I thought a character dinner would be fun. But the buffet is so expensive and we do not eat meat, just veggies and seafood. I am so concerned that we will be paying 30 bucks a person for a piece of dry white fish and a dirty loud restaurant. I am not dissing Chef Mickeys, but there have been many disappointed reviews, and I am 21 and my boyfriend is 22 and while we will enjoy the characters, I am not going to be hogging them away from the little kids who will really be appreciating it. I do want to try it but I just have so many doubts. We tried to get a PS for breakfast (cheaper and more options for us) but none were available for when we wanted to go. Sigh....


I am sorry to rant but I want the trip to be perfect. I do not want a bad dinner on our last magical night there!

Is there anyplace better that you guys would reocmmend that would be about 70 bucks for two adults? Shoudl we go to Chef Mickeys....so many mixed reviews...

We liked Chef Mickey's breakfast and dinner; granted, the breakfast was better for us than the dinner, BUT you have to know that we went to Chef M's dinner the night we arrived at WDW, also the night Hurricane Jeanne was coming. We got there early and they checked us in and seated us early, but we missed a couple characters because we had to get the bus back to our resort before they stopped running, which was 7 pm. Our PS was for 6:30.

As far as the food, it was great! I don't eat fish, but DH does and he had 2 pieces there, maybe 3. There were several veggies to choose from, different kinds of things, and also pasta (I don't know if you eat pasta or not). The dessert bar was great, and at 9 pm, you'll probably have the place pretty much to yourselves.

I say go and see what you think. I believe that day's menu was posted as you enter the restaurant, so if there aren't things there you can eat, you don't have to stay. Of course, that leaves you with no dinner, which is a problem too.

our first tri[ to WDW was 2 years ago and we were soooo let down my chef mickey's for dinner foodwise. when we move here, we decided to give it another chance. big mistake, nothing has changed. the breakfast is good, but dinner is still disappointing. our favorite MK area buffet is crystal palace. for us, chef mickey's is great place - to cruise by in the monorail. good luck in your quest, I'm sure you'll have fun wherever you decide to spend your last night.

I wouldn't worry too much. The seafood is really good in most restaurants in disney. As I remember last Dec. the fish at chef mickey's was fantastic. I am generally not a fish person and I remember it wasn't dry at all. From what I aslo remeber there was shrimp as well. plenty of veggies and potatos and mac and chese as well.

my dh and I were not all that thrilled with the food but it was fun and we are glad we did it.
Look at Deb's page if you are thinking of going somwhere else instead and see if there are other places you might like more.
I don't think you are going to be jumping for joy for the food but it is fun there.
We enjoyed Crystal palace more though. We thought the food was better and we liked the character interaction better.
You have to decide if you are going for the food or characters.

i would do chef mickeys for breakfast not dinner..and the atmosphere is fantastic...its soo fun there..i am 31 my hubby is 30 our kids our 5 and 7...oh and my mom...always wants to go there when we are there if that tells you anything and she is the pickiest of the picky about cleanliness.....see if you can go for breakfast...they have this vegetable lazagna to die for!!!!

If breakfast is an option and you are at MK, why not eat at crystal palace with pooh and friends? The breakfast selections were excellent and the characters were fun.

For a really amazing dinner you could splurge on the grill at the top of the contemporary and watch the fireworks. it is a great way to end a day and MK and a trip to disney.

I would not recommend chef mickeys. There are so many more romantic and nicer places to go. Been there twice with my kids but would not go without them. It is expensive for a so-so buffet.

There were several veggies to choose from, different kinds of things, and also pasta (I don't know if you eat pasta or not).

FYI: Their pasta has had chicken pieces in it everytime we've gone...including December 19th.

Okay I decided to skip Chef Mickey's. I am somewhhat sad about it but we are having lunch at the Crystal Palace instead. I know it is expensive too but we are excited for it. We are going to have dinner at the rainforest cafe at DTD that night instead. Thanks everyone for the opinions!

First, stop stressing. It's only a restaurant.

Second, stop trying to make a 'perfect' trip. There's no such thing. There are bad trips, good trips, and great trips. Trying to make a perfect trip is setting yourself up for a major fall, because something always goes wrong, just as it does in everyday life, and if you go ballistic when it does you will ruin your trip.

Third, it's probably good that you decided to skip Chef Mickey's, because as lovely as it is, it's not what I would consider a romantic restaurant. Neither is Crystal Palace, to be honest, but it's a little more romantic that Chef Mickeys. Except for the screaming kids and the DMZ they call a buffet.

If you weren't veggies I'd recommend 'Ohana as a romantic meal, but the mains there are beef, pork, turkey, and shrimp on skewers. Unless you're the type who eat seafood but not red meat, 'Ohana wouldn't be a good choice for lunch or dinner. You might try it for breakfast, however.

For lunch you could try Cinderella's Royal Table. It's darn near impossible to get into for breakfast, but much easier for lunch and dinner. They have some nice veggie offerings in your price range and the restaurant is very nice and classically decorated.

I agree about trying to plan the "perfect" trip. My "perfect" dec trip to the GF to enjoy all the christmas festivities I spent 3 whole days in the room with a 2 and 5 year old. We all had a horrible stomach virus. We were not sick when we left home but 2nd day into our trip we all got sick, and all those PS I spent months pondering/worrying over had to be canceled. We also ran over something in the road on our way home and had a flat tire that my husband had to change on I-75 with all the trucks wizzing by. This was our 4 trip with our 5 year old daughter and the first time we have had any problems. SO I agree with the others don't stress and enjoy. There is no way you can do everything on one visit. Have a fun and safe trip.

DH and I went to Chef Mickey's our 1st night....and did NOT like it. I think the enviornment was more geared towards families w/children. I have been to other character meals, but I was shocked how LOUD it was. Plus alot of kids running around. The atmosphere just seemed overly busy, and over stimulating. The food was just blah to us. More like cafeteria food. The bar however next to Chef Mickeys serves a mean Margaritta! YUM! It was sure a nerve smoother My kudos to the bartender!!!!

We both really liked Ohaha's for Dinner and Breakfast.

We ate at Boma's for breakfast and just LOVED it. I wish we would have eaten at Boma's for dinner....we loved the enviornment.

LeCellier Steakhouse was excellent! As always....loved the soup. DH had steak, and I had their eggplant dish. It was wonderful.

And I agree...don't stress over every detail. It will drive you batty. Everyone has different opinions, and you may love something that another thinks is ick. Everything will fall into place....have a wonderful and blessed time!

I'd like to recommend Artist Point, at WL. The boat ride from MK to WL is awesome, the food and service at Artist Point is outstanding, and they serve a mean salmon dish. Plus, it's a VERY romantic place!

the more you try to plan those little magical moments, the more they're going to blow up in your face. you're going to expect way too much, and nothing is going to reach those expectations, so a little part of you is going to be disappointed. I think you're going to find the best memories down here are the ones you don't plan for or expect.

hey again and thanks for the replies.

I am not as punctual and precise as I may have come off and we really dont have much planned. It's more because My fiancee and I are 21 and 22 and pretty poor college students going to grad achool next year. It is costing us all our money to go to Disney, and while I know we should probably be having counter service everyday and night, we want to make the trip more classy and delicious!

I was more afraid because we are going there our last night, and we will not be going on anymore vacations again in the near future. If Chef Mickeys was cheaper I would have tried it, but for 70 bucks we could have a nice sit down somewhere.

Plus I am also trying to convince Nathaniel (fiancee) that disney IS magical. he is not as excited as me.

Well.....I can relate. It was kind of my mission this trip to show him what you are trying to show Nathaniel. The 1st night at Chef Mickey's did NOT help. Not to mention our horrid stay at the Poly.

I would agree with Artist Point. DH loved Ohana's!
