My lovely sister brought her DD to Easter with strep throat (why she didn't stay home, I have no idea)

She was not on antibotics until the second day we were there and she played with my kids for one whole day before my sister took her to the doctor.

Last night and today, one week from when my neice was contagious, I have a bad sore throat. Could I get strep throat from someone that I saw a week ago? Neither one of my kids has been sick and I don't think I've been around anyone with strep throat.

Maybe it's alergies, I can hope can't I.

none of us got it from her.......which I was very thankful for at the time......sometimes it is just the way the germs fall I guess......GOOD luck and I hope that your throat is dry like my throat is .......

Unforunately, yes you can. The incubation period for strep is 2 - 7 days, so you'd be right in there for a possible strep infection. If your throat hurts A LOT, like you're swallowing knives, get to a Dr ASAP. I had strep in Feb and none of my kids had it, and I can't figure out where I got it from. The swallowing knives bit was the true tale sign that something was wrong. I also had a sinus infection and an ear infection too, but that's beside the point. Good luck, and I hope you feel better!

my doc says 5-7 days is the normal period to watch.
You may have it.

{{hugs}} and hopes that it is just a sore throat. DS is battling strep throat for a week and a half now and it doesnt seem to be going away. think i am going to have to take him back to the doc again.

Usually you have a fever with strep but not always. Could be allergies but if it persists see the Dr and tell them you were exposed to strep.

My DD12 complained one day after school about a sore throat and the next morning I took her in and the rapid test was positive for strep and she was put on penicillin. She felt much better that night. Luckily, we caught it really early, so she never was feeling that bad.

Hope you're feeling better soon:D

Yes yes yes.....usually we catch it in time before all of us get it. Last year I made 3 trips to the drs. and discovered 4 out of 5 of my kids had it, by that time she put us all on antibiotics because it was spreading so rapidly! I say better safe than sorry on this one!

Break out the flashlight and look in everyones throat including yours. Strep looks like "blood splatters" in your throat and roof of your mouth. Not always does it look that that but that is the first thing I do when I have a suspicion of strep.

Other signs are headache, nauseous, fever.

And if you do find out that you have it, throw away your toothbrush after you've been on meds for a day. You can reinfect yourself by keeping the old toothbrush. My doctor told me that one winter when my kids kept getting strep. It worked.

Wow, that sounds sort of similar to me right now. I went to the Dr on Tuesday with a BAD sore throat, coughing, etc. Turned out I had tonsilitus, a bad chest cold, and a bad ear infection. Something yuck is going around right now!

Interesting post since DS and I spent most of the night last night at urgent care at Children's Mercy Hospital!

Strep can appear in so many ways with all or no symptoms. My son complained of his neck hurting when I picked him up at 5:30. By 7:30 last night he couldn't hardly move his head and had a lymph node swollen to the size of a quarter. I suspected it was strep but once I called the doc and they said it could be miningitis I was out the door. (I lost a friend in high school to miningitis.)

Anyway, after many hours at the hospital last night turns out to be strep and an infected node. Poor little guy is so miserable. I wish I could just take it away from him.

I have had strep about 50 times in my life and I know you can have a sore throat, fever, aches or almost no symptoms at all. I would not take a chance with a sore throat though. I had our doctor call me in meds today just to be on the safe side.

I hope all of you with strep and especially those of you with sick kiddos feel better soon. (((((BIG HUG)))))))

I called the doctor this afternoon and the nurse said that I couldn't have strep throat 7 days after being infected.

I don't know if I have a fever, I'm on asprin therapy for my TMJ and so it messes with fevers. My one ear hurts, my neck hurts and I feel achy. I was hoping that it was just allergies but I'm not so sure now. I'll have my DH look and see what my throat looks like tonight.

DS 2 had strep throat this week. He had high fever (103-104) for a couple days and could hardly swallow due to the pain. His throat did not look unusual; just red. I took him to the doctor and they did the rapid strep test, which came up negative, but the 48-hour culture came up positive for strep.

Just a warning to all out there--I learned from this that the rapid strep is not always accurate (our doctor said it misses strep 25% of the time!) so be sure they send out for the old-fashioned 48-hour throat culture too, just in case!

Hope you feel better very soon.

DD was our strep kid. She got it every time it went around. She usually didn't run a temp. Her throat wouldn't get as sore as mine does when I get strep. They'd test her with the rapid test and it would say it wasn't strep and put her on meds for infection. A week later she'd break out with a fine rash and they'd do another test. Then they'd decide she had strep after all. This has happened more than once!

On the other hand, my throat closes up to the point that I can't swallow and I get sick as a dog. I guess what I'm trying to say is that syptoms vary and so does the strength of the symptoms. I've even heard that people can be carriers and not realize they are sick. You could have been coming down with it before the 7 days. I wouldn't rule it out.
