Am I the only one who's child catches it constantly?
I just got home from the Pediatrician and he has Strep...again!
I can't even count the number of times he's had it, and he is only 6! Ugh!
Sorry for the vent. Just had to let it out somewhere (DH is traveling this week so I'm here with no adult conversation.)
Anyone else who's child catches it very easily?

I'm 32 now, but when I was a kid I got it all the time to the point where penicillin didn't work anymore because my body became ammune to it.

I don't have kids, but I can tell you in my early 20s I got it OFTEN (not sure why)...now I get it every year or so. Funny thing is I never got it until after getting my tonsils out when I was 18.

My kids had it twice between Thanksgiving and Christmas! :confused3 I was soooooo mad when I spoke to a mom of another child in their class who said her daughter had had a terrible sore throat for about a month, but she believed the body should heal itself. Ok, fine, lady, but while your child is "healing herself" I've taken my four to the pediatrician twice each!!! :furious:

Anyway, no you are not alone.

My daughter is 4 and since July has gotten it 6 times. Whats odd w/her though, is she gets hives...Dr. had said to see an ENT about getting her tonsils out, but now this past time, she had hives, red throat, no strep. So now, we're wondering if its been allergies all along somehow (long story). We have to go see an allergist first. Another thing, is that each time she had strep, no fever, no sore throat. Hope your DS feels better!

My yougest has strep throat atleast 6 times a year and He is 8 yrs old , But the kicker, is he had his tonsils and adnoids out at 22 months old. and still gets strep. :confused3

When me and my brother were younger we would both get strep constantly. It wasn't unheard of for me or him to get it 5 times in one winter. It was mostly because the elementary school would not open windows in the winter so all those germs would just stay put. Also a lot of parents send their kids into school sick because they don't want to take time off of work to take care of them. Strep throat and the stomach virus used to run rampant through school because of this. At any given time 6-10 kids would be absent from a class.

I feel for your child. I've been there, done that, more times then I'd like to remember.

My kids have not had it yet at all, but I had it a lot as a kid. Last week, I had a sore throat that kept getting worse, so I went to the dr...and *I* had strep!! Good grief...I'm 33 years old!! :rolleyes2

Oh great! Thanks for the good feelings... :sunny: I am starting with a sore throat now, and I used to get strep (like my son) as a child. I thought maybe I was too old to catch it at 34! I think I'm going to go cry. :p

My DD used to get this. But once we got her tonsils out, she's been fine. The ENT said the strep was lodged within her adenoids as well as her tonsils.

To the poster who mentioned hives, I'd watch that closely. My DD had that too, and that was diagnosed as scarlet fever, which is a variant of strep (supposedly when the strep moves into the bloodstream).

Hope they get better soon!

Wow! This sounds like my DD8. She gets covered head to toe in hives. She also is a strep magnet. Amazingly, never sore throat with it. It starts with stomachache, one vomit, then fever and finishes with peeling fingertips. Allergist couldn't connect the hives with strep. She usually gets hives right before a cold snap in the weather. :confused3 Never spring, summer or mild Fall. Right about November. Zyrtec knocks em right out now. Good luck to you OP...and to your daughter. Just make sure you take her for the re culture 3 days after her last dose of antibiotic, this way you know it's gone for good this time.

I just had DD6 at the ped. today. And she's got strep. She hasn't had it since August 2004 when she had her tonsils/adenoids out. Before that she had it 5 or 6 times within a 4 month period.

This might be bad to say, but I was almost relieved when the culture came back positive because then they could treat her & get her better. Those darn viruses drive me crazy when the dr. says they have to run their course!!!

Did your doctor mention anything about maybe your child being exposed to carrier?
I work at a daycare center and we had a little boy who was a carrier and would infect the other kids constantly...
He ended up needing a matainence antibiotic before we got rid of it once and for all...
Good luck :wizard:

Strep is horrible. I had it all the time as a child and teen. I had my tonsils out the month after high school graduation- and have only had it once since then. That was 20 years ago!
