Strategy for getting good room assignment

We have an upcoming trip Oct 31- Nov 9. We are staying at POR.

The season changes to value on Sunday, Nov 3, so we have two reservations. We are also being joined that day by friends who will have just finished a Disney cruise. I'm not concerned about our room assignment for the first three nights, but once they join us with their two small kids I want good rooms.

We've stayed at POR twice before. I'm hoping to get first floor connecting rooms in building 14 or 15 (actually I'd take anything up to 17, I've read 18 is smoking). I have already requested connecting rooms (not guaranteed of course). I plan to fax a request for the first ressie.

What is the best strategy for getting the rooms I want on November 3? Is Sunday a big checkout day? Should I show up in the lobby bright and early Sunday a.m? Does first come, first served apply a little?

We've been to the World and stayed on Disney property a dozen times. They have gone as day visitors twice when visiting family in Florida. I really want to make this a magical trip for them.

I've never gotten a bad room assignment. If I want a particular building, I just ask them to note it when I make the reservation. I would think that checking in early and telling them you will wait a while for a room to be able to get what you want would be a help. That's not a busy time of year anyway. You shouldn't have a problem.

Connecting rooms are given first to families with small children.

I've never gotten a bad room and I've never made any requests. (I am making one this October....Just in Case).

We have always had the CM offer us at least three different rooms and have always been able to get in the room before "check-in time."

I guess it never hurts to ask but I think LUCK, a happy and positive attitude, and a great CM go a great deal further than a request to CRO or a fax....Just my two cents...

Do your friends have the land/sea package?

the reason I'm asking is because I don't know how they assign connceting rooms with two different ressies.

I 've requested and gotten them twice, but I was the only name on the ressie.

You can go down to the front desk early to check-in, but you would not be able to check your friends in, unless both ressies are in your name.

What I would do is this:

five days before you leave, fax a very nice letter to the room assigner. Explain your situation and say that you want to request that on Nov 3 you would like to have connecting rooms with your freinds, if possible. Include both your confirmation # and your friend's confrimation # and name, address and the dates they will be staying.

Since you will already be staying there, perhaps at your first check-in , you could ask to speak to the room assigner. Introduce yourself and see if they received your fax.

I think getting there early helps. That way if you aren't happy with your room you will have a bigger supply to choose from. We checked in at 7 pm and they Polynesian concierge was booked so we couldn't switch room our room to a better one until the morning. When we checked in at the AKL it was 9:30am and we could choose what room we wanted.

Their cruise is a stand alone affair, no land package. Both rooms are under my name, so I can do all of the checking in, but it raises another question. Can their room keys be used for charging to their credit card (arranged at the front desk after they arrive), and our keys to mine?
