Strategies for beating the heat??

CVS is a pharmacy or drugstore that really has a convenient store attached to the pharmacy. They sell just about everything and are just about everywhere in NY, so your boss shouldn't have trouble finding one anywhere in the state. Good luck and enjoy your trip. We also will be in WDW over the 4th of July and our plan is much like everyone elses. Go to the parks early play till noon, go back to hotel to swim, rest, shower, etc. back to the parks for dinner and enjoy the evening there after the sun dwindles a bit.

Have fun on your trip

Your boss shouldn't have any trouble finding a misting fan in NY for you at a CVS pharmacy- or a walgreens ( also a pharmacy) do not wait until you get to O;Hare (chicago) I live in chicago and while you can find some interesing things in the airport, misting fans is one item I am pretty sure you won't find there-plus you never know how you will be for time if your flight isn't right on time. Actually with the exchange rate in your favor even buying one in the park wouldn't be a bad deal. We are going the last week of July and I plan to use one strategy daily- early in and then back to the hotel and then back late afternoon early evening.... relax- it's vacation! :flower:

The Disney mist mate with fans are currently on sale through Disney Ebay for $10 each. Debating whether or not to get one. GOing to Walmart today to check them out there. If I can't find one there, I'll order today and hope I'll save a few $$ even with shipping.

If you're from up north you will need spray bottles, fans, etc. You aren't used to the heat like people from Florida are. I can walk around all day with no fan, no spray bottle, and drinking soda. I played football, baseball, and soccer in this heat. Walking is not a big deal. A quick meal at lunchtime in the air conditioning is enough to recharge me.

My advice to those not used to the heat is pretty much what everyone else said. I would add a couple of things though. Wear sunscreen! I can't believe the people I see walking around with a sunburn at WDW. All it takes is a couple of minutes to put it on. Also duck into the shops with A/C. Spend a few minutes browsing and cool off. Lastly, wear a hat. Something light colored will deflect a lot of heat off your head.

Agree! In addition to this keep and eye on small children. Their bodies don't regulate the heat like an adults. Our ds when he was 4 began to overheat once at Tarzan Rocks. He sat their with goose bumps all over his body. He was shivering. It was 96 degrees outside. Be aware of signs of overheating. Be sure you and your children are well hydrated. Our ds(1) started to overheat on Saturday at MGM. We spent from opening until 5 at the park. It was way too much for him. We did take airconditioning breaks and had plenty of fluids, but apparently not enough for him. So yesterday when we went to epcot. I took a damp washrag and placed it into a bag of ice. We put it behind his neck to cool him off. It worked great! We also only stayed from 10am-2pm.

going during the summer. Parks are open longer, there are 2 showings of Fantasmic, and there is an excitement in the air. In fact, we leave in 12 days for an 8 night trip.

Our beat the heat tricks are so simple, yet many folks choose to ignore our advice. We arrive early, do the parks in the a.m. We take a break by having a lunch at one of the resorts...we linger and relax. We often go back to our resort and play in the pool all afternoon. Then, we head back out early evening. We drink plenty of water. We do shows and longer indoors attractions like Philharmagic, Hall of Presidents, Universe of Energy in the mid-afternoon time frame. We sometimes shop on Main Street or head for DTD in the afternoon. In short, we avoid the parks mid-day. Which one can do in the summer because the parks are open late.

I have purchased a mister that you fill up with water and it has a valve that you can open and it cools the water down and produces a fine mist spray to keep you cool. It requires no batteries and all you have to do it give it a few pumps to build up pressure. You can also add ice to make it even cool. They had them at BJ's for about $20.

I have gone there in really really hot humid days and with my family (Before I got married) everyone would get crabby with the heat, so we would wag water bottles. (I know stupid right) Well our rule NO FIGHTING in Disney so if someone was too hot and crabby we would have a small water fight to cool us down.

I always worked and we would always get some of the best photos. :umbrella:

I agree with all the suggestions....going back mid day is so helpful for recharging....and sunscreen is a MUST....there is nothing worse than being sunburned....I should know, being a redhead who used to try and get tan - I burned frequently and was miserable.

Drink lots and lots of water....:)

Hey another Gator! :wave2:

yep!! Go Gators!!!
How about the baseball team? They are doing great...let's hope for a win today! :)

WooHoo! Go Gators!

I am from Miami so I am used to the heat and the humidity. Just keep hydrated and you're good to go.

Don't overdo the water or you might flush your electrolytes. Maybe make your am cold one a sports drink.

Cranksports eFuel (http://www.cranksports.com) is a great-tasting liquid concentrate that you can pour into a water bottle that mixes very well. It has more complex carbs and electrolyes than other sports drinks that are packed with sugar that - in the heat, all that sugar could bother your tummy or make you bonk. I use this in my marathon training and it's great.

Wow, these are such great tips. Especially taking the breaks in the afternoon. I cant find the nect coolers tho. I went to Wal Mart, Dicks Sporting goods and Sports Authroity and they all looked at me like I had a 3rd head when I asked about them. LOL

That Misty Mater site is great! I might get the Cool Blast tank. I cant stand the icky heat.

Having gone six previous times in July all I can say is Early-Early-Early!!!Yes, it's a pain to get up early 6-6:30 a.m. for me but to make it into the parks from the get go and be able to get several rides and attractions done before the heat becomes too bad.....or the heavens open up. Head back to the hotel to nap/swim/ lounge, etc in the afternoon and head back :goodvibes out again after supper. You can always tell the people who went "commando" and tried to do it all at once and the people who took a much needed afternoon break.

Could not agree more. This is what we do when it is hot, hot, hot.

Spoke to my friend from NZ who is joining us in Florida about the neck coolers and she knew exactly what I was talking about and in fact her sister had made them for all the family last Christmas! So she is going to get her sister to make an extra couple and bring them with her :goodvibes

So thats one other thing off my list of things to do! ;)

If yoy really want to beat the heat, stay in your hotel room..... :confused3
