Strange question for ladies about bras

I know this is a very weird topic, but do you hand wash your bras? I just ordered some new ones and they say to hand wash and line dry only. I used to be able to buy my bras at WalMart, but I'm a bigger girl with not alot up top, so I'm VERY hard to fit. I've never spent this much money on bras, but they do fit very well. Do I have to hand wash them? If not, will they ruin quickly?

I have the same "fit issues" as you. I don't hand wash. I put them in the washer, but I hang dry them.

I buy a bra I love from Victoria's SEcret. It requires hand washing and hang drying. I tried washing one in the washing machine. It came apart compeletly. So, no more of that. I still wash them in the washing machine, but realized my machine has a hand wash cycle. I have not had a problem when using the hand wash cycle. The last thing I want to do is ruin a bra that cost $45!

I usually buy 'el cheapos', so machine washing is a given. I always make sure to hook the hooks otherwise they catch on the other clothes in the spin cycle and tear them.

Gentle/Handwash cycle. Try a Bra Baby (get at Bed Bath and Beyond) and dry on low.

They will last longer if you handwash. I have the same fit issues. I thought I must be the only one in America. ;)
What brand are they?

If your machine has a delicate cycle, use that.

I have never hand washed a bra, and I only wear the el-expensivo VS bras (fit issues as well...I have a wide ribcage, but small cup size).

Make sure you hook the bra, and use a mesh bag for delicates, so it doesn't get thrown around the washer (that brababy looks cool too...might need to get me one of those).

The only reason they tell you to hand wash it is to preserve the shape of the underwire and to prevent pilling of the fabric (which I don't care about, personally)

I got the at avenue.com. They are having a sale until 2/13 online only. $10 off select bras (each) plus 20% off entire order or 25% if you spend $100. The code to put in for the % off is AV8104. They sent me an email about the bra sale & it's online only. If you go to the site & it doesn't say about the $10 off, pm me & I'll forward the email I got. I got the tuxedo style, the comfort one "as seen on the view" and my FAVORITE is the One Sexy Skin. I ordered the sweetheart neck one, but the cups are just too big. I'm a 42B (almost B, in my book), but these fit better than I've had in a long time.

The one I like the most came out to be $26 ($42 - $10 - 25% = $26) Not too bad, but I since I have only bought from WalMart in the past, WOW! That's why I don't want to ruin them by running them through the w&d if I'm supposed to hand wash.

I did get on the brababy website & it says that they are sold at WalMart & Target. I'm gonna try there tomorrow.

Yes I hand wash mine. I am large on top, and buy my bras at Lane Bryant. They are comfy, yet hold the girls up!:thumbsup2 I have found that they do last longer if I hand wash and line dry them. Bras are way to expensive to have to be replacing them because I didn't follow the manufacturers instructions.

You don't have to, but they will last longer if you do. It you must machine wash, close the hooks, put them in a lingerie bag and at least hang dry them. Really, handwashing is not that big a chore IMHO and if I spend $50 a pop on bras I want them to stay nice as long as possible.

I machine wash and air dry, too. I never thought to close the hooks. You'd think after the darn things have snagged so many items over the years I'd have thought to close the hooks!

I do the same. I'm also pretty hard to fit (opposite problem, bigger on the top than bottom:laughing:), but I usally just get the Bali ones from Macy's.

The manufacturer can only put one set of care instruction on a garment so they tend to put the one that will give the garment the best opportunity to come out right after you care for the item per their instructions. So, since Dry Clean Only is kinda stupid for a bra (although I do have to say I have seen it!) they go for the hand washing instruction. That way, if it does come apart in the wash machine it's not their fault b/c they told you not to do it. See, it all comes back to the manufacturer protecting itself, not the consumer.

Anyway, some bras use fabric that does not withstand the harsh cycles of a washer (even delicate) and the only way you find this out is when you take it out and your once very nice bra now looks something more like fringe than bra.

Lol - I picked my washing machine specifically because it was the cheapest one that had a handwash setting! So, I do machine wash my bras, but on the hand wash setting, and they hold up relatively well, considering that the "experts" say you should replace them every 6 months - and I certainly don't!

I am also a big gril who is small up top and my bras are either Playtex or Vasserette ( I think that's how it is spelled). I always throw my bras in the washing machine but, I do line dry them.

If it's got an underwire, it wil lpoke through much faster if you machine wash it. If it doesn't ahve the underwire the nI wouldn't worry as much. I hand wash all mine, but every so often throw them in on a gentle cycle. Sometimes I am not sure my handwashing is getting them that good. Not like I am a sweaty beast, but I think sometimes they need a little extra aggitation from the washer.

My washer has a "handwash" cycle (this is separate from the "delicate" cycle).
I use that.
Then I "drip-dry".

I go to WallyWorld for my bras, and into the washer and dryer they go - never had an issue with them falling apart, etc....They seem to get cleaner in the machine vs hand washing, and if they did tear up after the first wash, Walmart will replace them if you have the receipt...
