We are checking out of WL on a Sunday. Then checking in to AKL. Can I be the only one in our party to use ME to get back to MCO? I need to rent a 8 passenger van at MCO. Anyone know???

TIA!
Sue

If I understand your question correctly yes. No one has to use ME in fact I don't recommend using it at all if you are renting a van... lots of waiting is involved. I took in in Feb and HATED IT!

For the record, I loved DME and didn't have the experience of the above poster, I dodn't have much waiting at all! No more than the waiting time to rent a car, return a rental, etc.

Anyway, I'm not sure I understand your question. Please clarify. Do you intend to go to MCO in the middle of your vacation in order to rent a van? If so, you can't use DME to get to the airport. From what I understand, DME can only be used upon arrival and upon departure. Although I'm waiting to see if anyone KNOWS this not to be the case.

If you do rent a van in the middle of your trip, why bother taking DME if everyone else is in the van. I mean, I loved using DME and I'll be using it again in November, but if I already had a rental vehicle that needed to be returned to the airport, I can't imagine I'd rather take a bus!

Have you tried to reserve the van closer to Disney World? Car Care Center outside Magic Kingdom and the Dolphin have a National/Alamo desk; other major rental agencies are located at some properties on Hotel Plaza Boulevard.

Thanks...yep I am going to MCO in the middle of our trip! Its killing me to do it BUt an 8 passenger van is 1500 for 8 day anywhere else, at least right now. We are going to SW and the holyland for a day so therefore the rental car. Plus we have some ADRs that it would be much quicker to use a car. 4 days at WL then 8 days at AKL. IF we all fit with luggage we won't take ME back to MCO.

Interesting question as my husband was thinking of doing the same thing in April 07. We have 5 days at BW and then are driving down to Vero Beach for 5 days. We would take M.E. from airport to Disney as we don't need the car for the five days we are at Disney. Although I didn't question ME yet, he was thinking of taking ME after we check out of BW over to to MCO for the car and we would stay behind. If you're actually checking out of hotel and not checking any luggage onto ME, maybe you can still do this. :confused3 Otherwise, I guess we should start looking into other options posted above.

From everything I've read, I think your plan will work fine. You're entitled to DME transportation back to MCO on the day you check out of your WDW resort. Just take your luggage with you to the bus, the driver will load it under the bus, and it'll be returned to you when you arrive at MCO. I may be missing some fine details, but this is at least the main idea.

No. You're confusing two different posters.

I quoted and was answering Tink Fans. Tink Fans wrote:

Tink Fans WILL be checking out of her WDW resort. Thus, she is entitled to DME transportation back to the airport. I'm extrapolating from something that Tyler said about a similar situation with someone else, that she won't need to lie but can just explain the situation to DME and get the transportation.

I think I'm better off praying for a bettter car rental deal, lol!!

$1500 for a van!!!! $500 or less with a transportqation company, 10 passenger van, to carry you around would be all that it would cost you if you made a trip out and back everyday. Wouldn't it be nice to let someone else drive you, around Orlando, and pick you up when you requested it. You could probably tip them $500. and still save $500.
