Strange Buffalo Airport Question

We are thinking about taking a bus to Buffalo instead of convincing family members to drive us. Our flight leaves really early in the morning. My question is, how early will they let us check into the airport? I really dont want to pay for a hotel for 4 hours.

The airport is open 24 hours but I think you can't go through the security check till 5am. There is seating in the outer area.
