Strange booking issues with dining plan

Not sure if this goes in the resorts or dining plan forum, but it involves both.

I have a current 2 night reservation at AKL under the pass holder summer room offer rate. 2 adults, 2 children (one is a Disney adult for dining purposes). Called the AP line today to add on the QS dining plan. By my calculations that would be 3 adults at about $52.50/day and 1 child at ~$23.78/day. So I'm expecting somewhere in the neighborhood of an extra $363. Apparently my math is really bad, I missed something, or Disney has something strange going on. The CM that was helping me quoted me a package price of $1158.xx using the same pass holder room discount. My room only price including tax was $619.38. A difference of about $539, or $176 more than I was expecting. Even if I didn't account for tax in figuring the expected $363 figure, an extra $176 is about 48% more. I thanked the CM for her time and declined adding dining... and went off to do some investigating.

Opened up a private browsing session, logged into the disney site and went through the booking process for my same room and dates with pass holder discount. For simplicity sake, I only listed 1 adult in the room. Came to $619.38 with tax. Great. Clicked the add dining plan button and selected the QS plan. New total: $897.05, a difference $277.67. It is a 2-night stay, so $138.84 per day for a QS dining plan for 1 adult.

So back to my newly updated (and very expensive cart). I click on "view package details". I now have Magical Extras it seems. 4 mini-gold vouchers, 4 Wide World of Sports vouchers, and a Magical Extras Saving Card good for some discounts.

At this point I gave up. Hopefully it will get straightened out in the next few weeks before we leave for vacation.

Most sites list the deluxe at $116.25, so close.

I did confirm with the CM that I was getting the price for the QS plan. Also confirmed on the web booking I was doing for research. The options for the regular DDP and deluxe were even higher.

The maniacal extras are free extras you get when you book a package (as opposed to room only).

You aren’t getting the room discount with the dining plan. That’s why it is higher.

There's no reason they shouldn't get the room discount with the timeless package. If the promo ended, OP needs to get the reservation escalated to Guest Services.

I just went into the official website and picked two random night's in August for two adults and a child.tax

Summer Special rate for two nights pool view $618+tax
Tickets (because I don't have AP or access to that site) $837*
QS for this party $200*

Without tickets, using the current special (book online onle) should be about $900 total.

I think I've got my issues figured out here. As detailed in the AP rates thread, the AP Summer room offer rate has been fluctuating with the weekend rates. On some days when you try to book, you get a discount rate for weekdays and rack rate for weekends (every resort, every room category... so it's not an inventory thing). Wait a day or two and they are all back to discounted rates. Been going on for a week or two now.

I needed a Thursday night and Friday night. Yesterday, when booking room only with the AP rate both nights were being discounted. As soon as I added the dining package, the rate for Friday night shot up to rack rate even though it showed as being an AP rate.

Today, a room only reservation is giving me the AP rate for Thursday and rack for Friday. I'm going to wait it out and hope that when the Friday rate flips back to AP the dining package will be able to be added and the rate not change.
