Stoybook Land Canal Boats vs... dark rides

Are the Storybook Land Canal Boats or the Casey Jr. Circus Train as charming as some of the dark rides, like Whinnie the Pooh? Are there scenes that you can only see from the ride? Or is everything visible to the passerby?

In my opinion yes they are. I loved them before I had my daughter and love them with more now with her. If you have never been on them, then I would go on them both for sure.

No way could I compare the two. I find the Storybook Canal Boats quite boring! You're basically just looking at little houses and castles. We always skip those rides!

The dark rides are magical to me, and put you right in to stories/cartoons that you love. Just no comparison IMO.

I was just on Storybook Land Canal boats this morning . . . . for the first time in 25 years or so! (No one ever wanted to go and I was there by myself . . .. ) I think it depends on who is with you--if you have little girls (and maybe boys) then I think it is worth it because you get to see miniatures of many of the homes/castles of classic and not-so-classic Disney adventures. It really is beautiful to see--tha landscaping is specatular (explained as Tinkerbell sprinkles pixie dust over it each night!) but if you are traveling with 14 year old boys I can't imagine they will enjoy it. I waited maybe 15-20 minutes this morning and was glad it wasn't any longer . . . and yes, there are parts of it you cannot otherwise see . . some of the hidden parts are visible from the Casey Jr. Circus train.

Personally, I love them both. As a little girl, I can remember wanting to work at Storybook Land when I grew up because I loved the coats and scarves they wore at night and wanted some of my own.

For me, the best time to go is in the evening, just when the lights are starting to take effect. There's just something so magical about the whole thing; the little houses with all of the small details are amazing and it just seems so... perfect. I was really surprised and happy to see they had it over at Disneyland Paris too, especially since they don't have it at WDW.

I LOVE the Storybook Canal boats, and every once in a while you even score and get a really funny tourguide...

You can't see most of it from walking around, so it's worth doing at least once. They usually don't open the boats until about an hour or two AFTER the park opens, so find out when they're going to open and get there just before that, or you'll wait in a long line.

My daughter loved the Casey Jr ride and my son is 3 this year and loves trains, so I totally expect my dh will have to take him as well. And the storybook ride I think is great since the whole family can go.

Casey Jr. is a must do for us each time we are there. We always try to get the caboose. Lots to see, and you'll be surprised at how fast that little train can go.

Storybook is much like the Jungle Cruise in that the quality of the ride is much dependent on your skipper (or captain). The storybook captain can make or break the ride for me. Last time we had Captain Quentin, and he was the best we ever had. He gave us little known trivia and history about different features in the ride. He spoke clearly and I heard every word he said. This was a storybook first for me!

We love the Storybook boats and Casey Jr. We especially enjoy going on them at night. I enjoy those more then some of the dark rides.

The Storybook Canal boats are OK.....once. But I would definitely go as it is a nice ride.

But my 7-year-old and I love Casey Jr.! He used to love being a "wild animal," but his new favorite place to sit is the "Caboose's Caboose" (a.k.a. the absolute last seat and you ride backwards! It's also a nice ride.

I would do them both as the waits aren't usually too long.

I love them both! They're so charming. Unfortunately I hardly ever ride them because the lines are heinous. Especially Storybook Land.

They are both great. Totally different experience than the dark rides but worth the ride. They are both really pretty at night. I love seeing the little castle on the hill and seeing the giant ducks in the miniature park!

Haven't been on Storybook Canal Boats for ages... but I put up with all kinds of grief from my family, who would just as soon skip Casey Jr. too, but since they know I love it, they come along as well... rolling their eyes the whole time of course.

Otoh I find it interesting that the OP chose Winnie the Pooh as a charming ride. While I guess I think it's kind of OK... I guarantee it is a no way, no how ride for my family.

That ride is why Imagineers ought to be drug tested more often. My friend calls it, "Pooh's Opposite-of-base Excursion."

I love Duckzillas! It's one of my favorite things about SBL because it's so funny and beyond Disney's control to keep them out of their little utopian mini-villages.

Duckzilla terrorizes London Park! QUAAAAACK!
