Stowing your carryon

Before i board the plane I make sure anything I'll need is in my laptop case whch I store under the seat in front of me. It takes less than 10 seconds to drop my laptop onto the seat, swing my suitcase up into the bin and step into my seat. It amazes me to see the production some people take to settle in. this last flight home I watched a father spend 30 seconds yelling at his 3 tweenage kids, switching seats, "the people behind us are waiting" "put your stuff here not there". Then after telling them what to do, he starts taking his jacket off and putting it in his carryon, then he starts looking around for a spot to stow it. All this time the line behind is patiently waiting.
This same guy had to open the storage bin 4 times to retrieve stuff during the flight.

Are you that guy?

I agree with you 100% ... isn't it amazing how much of a project sitting down could be turned into??? It really bothers me because prior to boarding the plane most of us have been sitting in the terminal for an hour or more ... why couldn't you get everything all squared away and sorted out then?

I used to think I was a little OCD but when compared with MANY others I realized that I'm not OCD ... just prepared!

HOORAY for common sense and hooray for POPRIV!!! ​

I also like to be prepared and ready to board quickly. I find the whole boarding process to be a pain and so like to get myself in and settled as quickly as possible. I always make a point to have my personal item big enough to hold any items I think I'll need during the flight and so I can just shove my carryon into the overhead bin and sit down. But, oddly enough I find it entertaining then to sit and watch others board. Maybe that's why I like to be quick, so nobody is watching me.

We are a family of five (with two small children and a disabled elderly person) and it doesn't take US that long to get situated. My kids put their bags under the seats, I put my bag and my aunt's bag under the seats, my husband takes care of anything that needs to go up top (since I'm five foot nothing and he's 6'4") and TA-DA! If something doesn't fit somewhere we can take care of it when there isn't a line of 100+ people waiting to get on the plane.

That's key, postage stamp. Despite flight attendants repeating that several times during boarding, the offenders don't seem to notice

Honestly, now that I have an ereader, boarding and stowing is SO easy!

Our airport has a video that plays while you are waiting in the TSA line, explaining what can and what cannot go thru security. Yet there is always someone in line befuddled and confused that their venti latte cannot go thru security. Or that their coat has to come off.

I haven't flown in over 25 years and even I know to have everything organized before boarding. Laptop bag with extras under the seat and the carryon in the bin.

Seriously, people can't figure that out?

This should be very entertaining when I get on that plane next month

I'll Join Thread.

I fly Southwest monthly. Its friggin amazing how many people cannot deal with the concept of "No Assigned Seats"

Types
1. The Scanner - They stand in the aisle and just scan the empty seats as if they are using some kind of xray vision.

2. Mr/Mrs Panic - You see them pacing before the A Group even lines up. The insist on standing exact at the A36 position on there boarding pass. Then they drag, prod, push their families unto the plane in fear that they may not find seats together. Onboard they jump in the first seats even though there are 85 open seats left.

3. The Mumbler - Inches down the aisle mumbling that they don't like SW's seating policy

4. OMG! There are NO seats type - These people can't pull the trigger on the many empty seats because of social discomfort. (ie. can't seat next to that person of size; there will be a child behind me, that guy looks too hip hoopish; she looks snobbish; he scares me; etc)

I've been with SW for the last 11 years and all I can do is Shake My Head! Next week I fly to Hawaii on Continental so I will get to watch the parade of people who have seat assignments who take EVEN LONGER to find their way.
