despite my best efforts to keep it clean my stove top looks terrible. i've tried everything i can think of to loosen the cooked on mess with little success (the best i did was heating the oven up which heated the stove top up and putting orange based cleaner on to soak).

the easy off can says it can be safely used on enamal. has anyone ever tried heating up the stove top and using this?

any other ideas would be much appreciated.

barkley--I'm bumping for you.

I have a cooktop and the panels and burners aren't sealed and they are a mess. I was told never to use anything abrasive, but I have had to. My neighbor's cooktop is beautiful. She says her mom comes every once in awhile and cleans it. I asked what she used and she said "Just a Brillo pad." Well, I've tried that and it doesn't work for me. I've never tried the Easy Off.

We scrape off the hard to clean mess with a razor. Works great.

i fear if i try this method my next thread posting will be "how do you get blood stains out of kitchen floor grout" ;)

Do you have the flat top stove top or one with burner pans? For my flat top stove, I carefully scrape the larger areas with a straight razor and then use a cleaner made specifically for flat top stoves like "CookTop Magic". You can find these cleaners in the cleaning products aisle of your local grocery store.

When I had a stove with burner pans, I would occasionally bite the bullet and just buy new burner pans.

Well, I have neither. I have a Jenn-Air Cooktop (about 11 years old. There are two, rectangular shaped white enamel plates that pop up and off so you can clean them in the sink. There are two "holes" within these plates that go over each gas burner (which are also white). My plates look bad, the burners looks terrible. To replace these cost several hundred dollars and it's best to just get a new cooktop. My next one will definitely be sealed.

I just have a regular gas range and I use brillo or sos pads on it all the time. Maybe try the Magic Eraser...that little thing is a miracle worker!

I have a regular gas stove top and we use the scrubbing bubbles kind of cleaner. Gosh, I can't think of the name of it but it's white with little scrubbies in it. Lol we put that all over the top and then spray ummm, I think it's Fantastic or something with bleach and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. Everything comes right off after that!

Sorry but this made me laugh :lmao:

My mom's advice that works....

A can of Bon Ami (which is a non-scratch powder cleaner) and a Dobie sponge...make a paste and clean...will not scratch. It may leave a residue that you can wipe off with water or glass plus/windex. I wouldn't use sos or brillo, it can scratch.
