Storytellers breakfast buffet

Storytellers' breakfast buffet is a little smaller than most, but we found everything to be very fresh. On the buffet line, they had fruit, bagels/cream cheese/smoked salmon, sausage, bacon, potatoes, pastries, and eggs/omelets-to-order. I know there was more stuff, but this is what I can remember off the top of my head. They also have pancakes and french toast, but you ask your server for those and they are brought to your table fresh from the kitchen so they are not languishing on the buffet line.

Guests can also order off the menu, if buffets are not their thing. There are characters (forest animal types from Brother Bear, Pocahantas, etc). Overall, we enjoyed our breakfast there.

We did it this past summer. I love breakfast! It is my favorite meal of the day. With that said no breakfast is worth $25. Just my opinion. The food was ok nothing to write home about.

Last time we went DD was 7 and didn't have a big appetite. I liked that we could just order her a kids meal of Mickey waffles while my DH and I had the buffet. She enjoyed the interaction with the characters, especially when they had a "parade" around the restaurant with the kids.

Truth be told, I really like Storytellers as a restaurant itself but I'm not a big fan of the Critter Breakfast.

Here is the way I look at it:

The buffet is a better 'bargain' than ordering off the menu. Some of the menu items are the size of a Denny's Grand Slam - or smaller - but still cost $18+ dollars, which is insane. The buffet, at $23 - $25, is a better deal.

However, the Critter Breakfast buffet is small. There is not much to it. I am accustomed to the huge buffet that is at Goofy's Kitchen. So, that said - and this may not make much sense - I would rather pay roughly $32 - $37 (depending on the season) for the Goofy's Kitchen buffet - with characters I like and a wide array of food choices - than pay $23+ for the Critter Breakfast buffet, which is much smaller and has a few characters I don't care that much about (like Koda and Kenai). If I want Chip and Dale, I can see them at Goofy's or at Minnie & Friends.

However, there are quite a few folks who love the Critter Breakfast for its more sedate and laid back feel (as opposed to the high octane fun of Goofy's Kitchen or Surf's Up with Mickey, or the sometimes chaotic atmosphere of Minnie & Friends). People say they think the food is really great at the Critter Breakfast. I have found Storytellers has its 'off days' and good days, just like Goofy's Kitchen and just like every other restaurant in DLR. So I didn't find the food to be any more spectacular than anywhere else, really.

i don't care about breakfast and would rather sleep... but DH and DS always go to Goofy's Kitchen.

We were just there in July. I completely agree with everything that has been posted. The choices were a bit less than some of the other buffet's but the food was good. The characters, well Koda and Kenai?! I thought it was a sad character offering. I understand "critter breakfast" however I would think Meeko would be a better choice. However my kids are 13 and 16 so we went for a buffet and a laid back experience which is what we got. Not sure what you are looking for it really but isn't your standard "character buffet". Overall it was good, I think I just like a bit more character interaction.

We met Koda, Chip, Dale, Terk, Pluto, and Meeko last time we went.

We just ate there about a month ago. I really liked the breakfast better than Goofy's. The food was fresh, it was good and IMO better quality than Goofys. It was much quieter, much more intimate and more mellow. We walked in, gave our reservation and were seated. We didn't have to wait in a line to give our reservation, then sit in a seperate room and wait to be called and then take pictures that we had no intention of buying. There was an omlette station, muffins and pastries, cereal, fruit, eggs, sausage, bacon and potatoes. The servers also brought fresh waffles and pancakes to the table.

We saw Koda, Chip, Dale, Terk, Kenai, and Meeko. The only thing that I didn't understand was Kenai wouldn't sign the autograph book. He just shook his head no and walked away. I found that to be rude and my son was perplexed. We asked the handler who came with Dale about it and he said he couldn't sign because of his claws, but I think if that's the case, he should have had a handler or someone explaining that instead of thinking the character was just rude. The same happened with Koda, but by that time, we already knew about it.

I asked my son which breakfast he liked better and he said Goofys, but my mother and I much preferred Storytellers.

I fell for the same - for me Koda gestured and pointed at his paws. Then I realized there was no way he could hold the pen with his claws.

I apologized to him for not noticing, and he just hugged me in a "don't worry, it's alright" way and put his paw in my autograph book so I could draw around the claws, so I at least got a "paw print."

It seems we always see Koda, Chip, Dale, Terk and Meeko. Kenai has been there normally too, but once he was replaced by Rafiki.

When we went we saw: Meeko, Terk, Chip, Dale, Kenai & Brer Fox (our fav!!)

We've never seen more than 5 characters at Storytellers - and sometimes even just 4 characters. We always see some combination of Koda, Kenai, Chip, Dale, Meeko and Terk. Brer Fox is not too frequent, I don't think.

And, see, the thing for us was that, the last time we did the Critter Breakfast the food was not fresh at all. The fruit was not good. The eggs were bland and a weird consistency. The bacon might as well have been beef jerky with as tough as it was to chew through. My friends didn't care for it. I just chalked it up to an off day.

So that's why I can't say that the Critter Breakfast food is fresher or better than any other place. What I can say with certainty is that all of the restuarants at DLR - character meals and otherwise - have good days and 'off' days. Or they go through good periods (like weeks or months at a time) and off periods. So a family might hit a good day at Storytellers and an off day at Minnie & Friends in the same week. But the next week, maybe Minnie & Friends has put out some super-fresh food and Storytellers is serving the shoe leather bacon again!!:rotfl2: I have had food at Goofy's that was supremely fresh and hot, just cooked and put out, and it was delicious. There are other days where the timing was not right and so the food that was out when we were there was not as fresh. It varies with all of them.

You just never know what 'day' you're going to get at any restaurant in DLR. And so much of it is based on personal tastes as well.

We go to storytellers every trip... and we usually have a ton of characters... last trip we had: Terk, Chip, Dale, Koda, Kenai, Brer Bear, Baloo & Rafiki... we love the bears!

Thanks for all of the responses. I have been to Goofy's Kitchen 3 times in the past as everyone has said the food and atmosphere was the best and I don't disagree. It's just that the Wife and I are going down for our 20th anniversary and was looking at doing things we haven't done before. Also friends of ours are going to be there for their first time and I thought a nice buffet breakfast would be nice to meet over (read..I would be picking up the tab). I have already picked Cafe Orleans and Carnation Cafe for Mon, Tue Lunch and WOC WCT dinner for thursday so I thought this would be for Wed morning.

Give the Critter Breakfast a try - you'll probably like it! I didn't even think that you should go to Goofy's Kitchen. I was just breaking down the way I compare the pros and cons of Storytellers and Goofy's and why Goofy's works better for me.

Have you ever eaten at Storytellers during the non-character meal times? Are you familiar with what it looks like inside? I really like the restaurant in general. It has a nice, earthy, cozy, rustic kind of feel to it. And they serve an excellent spaghetti for dinner!!

Of the couple times we went in the past 4 years we havent even stepped foot into GC. Thats why we are thinking of this, I would love to go go Napa Rose but cant seem to bring myself to that quality and expense. This trip is our 20th anniversary and I want to do the things we seem to never have the time for. :cool1:

The time I was there the charactors were Chip and Dale, Ballo, and Raffiki... It was the summer of 09.
