Storyland?

I am trying to come up with someplace for a weekend trip. We are in NJ. My kids are 13,10,4 and 2. I know this is geared toward the younger 2. But are there other places in the area that I could do something for the older 2? And anyplace you suggest we look into for lodging? Thanks for any tips.
We like to try someplace new.
Is Storyland like Dutch Wonderland?

Do you mean Storyland in NH or Storybookland in NJ? Either way, they are both pretty similar in terms of what is there - the NH one is bigger. We have done all 3 (including Dutch Wonderland) and DD4 loves them. I think they are great for kids up to about 9 or so, but it depends on the kid. My friend would never take her 6 year old there, she thinks it is too "babyish" for her. Prefers thrill rides at Great Adventure.

BTW, we stay over in AC when we go to Storyland. We stay in Littleton, NH when we go up North. Not super close (1 hour or so away), but it is my fav town in the world.

Are you referring to Storybook Land in Egg Harbor, NJ (near Atlantic City)? If so, it's an adorable park, but would definitely be pretty boring to your older two kids, but absolutely perfect for your younger two, both in size and the type of rides/things to see.

Storybook Land is smaller and quainter than Dutch Wonderland. Dutch Wonderland is probably appropriate to the 12 and under crowd (though 12 may be stretching it, there are only a few 'bigger' type rides) and Storybook Land is mainly for the 6 and under crowd, though my 7 yr old DD still enjoys it.

Storyland in NH is definately for the under 9 crowd. However, if you're driving all the way to NH, have you thought about Maine? There is a small amusement/waterpark in Saco, ME. It has things for a wide age range. On the way to Saco, there is York Beach, and a ton of other things along the coast. I think it would be the same distance, if not shorter to dive to Maine than Storyland in NH. Saco about 1.5-2 hours from Boston to give you an idea.

Check out attitash.com -- there is an alpine slide and waterpark there and packages for staying there and going to Storyland. Storyland also offers a free admission day if you enter the park after 3pm. Also, you can check out Canobie Lake Park in Salem, NH on your way up to Storyland! Have a great trip!

We go to Storyland every summer. It is great for the little ones! We always stay in North Conway at the Eastern Slope Inn. IT has the best location, reasonable prices and a great indoor pool. You can walk to the park and finish up with a trip to Ben and Jerry's. There is a train station right by the park as well and they offer reasonable train rides. We LOVE North Conway!

I have stayed at other area hotels (even the Story book motel by Story land....great pool, nasty accomodations) and the Eastern Slope Inn is by far the best. It is not brand new but it is an older Inn....very large though.

You will enjoy Storyland too! You will be near mount Attitash and the alpine slide. Tons of outlet shopping in North Conway. There are lots of other things in the area. Hiking etc.

Will you be taking 93 to Storyland? If so, I think that is near Lincoln NH and you will take the Kancamangus highway to Conway....Lincoln has tons of neat things too. Loon mountain: you can take the gondolla up to the top, The Lost River: fun walk in the woods, through caves some light mining for little ones, There is Santa Village nearby (an amusement park based on Christmas, Clarks Trading Post and more.....

No, sorry...my parents live about 20 minutes from there so we always stay with Nana and Bampa! However, I had forgotten all of the fun things to do in NH. I don't think you can go wrong either way. I love the North Conway area, too.

I live right outside of Portland & Saco is 15 20 mins from me.

The amusement Park is Funtown/ Splashtown and it is nice but if your kids are under 42 inches you may have trouble finding rides (except really little kiddie rides) for them to try. It is very nice and well run though...The Splashtown part is fun and clean. My kids 5 and 7 loved it 2 weeks ago!

I don't think there are any great places I can think of to stay in Saco. There are lots of motels (mom and Pop type) The tourist area in that area is really Old Orchard Beach and it is right next to Saco. Amusement park on the beach, lots of junk to eat and tons of motels. The Beach is a beautiful beach with lots of people.

As far as other beaches, York Beach is nice but Stay away from the dirty York animal Farm...yuck! I prefer Ogunquit (near Kennebunkport) there is a gorgeous footpath there, trollys to ride and a lovely beach. There are lots of beaches further north as well. (scarborough, Cape Elizabeth, and Saco too!

Mind you all of this is almost 2 hours from North Conway. How many days are you planning to visit the area?

We've taken our children to Storyland in NH several times. My parents took me there when I was a little girl! It's a wonderful park...very clean and the people are very nice. My kids were 11 and 7 when we were there last, and even my 11 year old had fun. There was enough there for us to do to spend the entire day. It's a family park, meaning it is set up for mom and dad to have fun with their kids, so kids of all ages will be able to ride the rides. They aren't thrill rides, but they are enjoyable. My kids LOVED playing in the Loopy Laboratory with the foam balls and air guns, and sling shots! Lots of fun there!

The food is good and very reasonably priced for an amusement park.

I can't recommend a place to stay, because we stay in our family cottage on Lake Ossipee when we go. But North Conway has a lot to offer...great shopping, restaurants, etc. and a quaint atmosphere. I remember seeing a water splashground at the town park when we were there last summer but we didn't have time to stop. It looked like a lot of fun though!!

Not really for Storyland but a great place to get away for the weekend for the age range you have would be Lake George in the Adirondacks, beautiful Lake and nice beach, great accommadations, there is a nice park there called The Great Escape, of course it is not Disney but my kids just adore it. There is a drive in movie place, go carts, paddle boat rides on the Minnie Ha Ha. Lots to do! Just a thought, my family loves to take weekend trips there. Probable about the same distance as NH or so, but not quite sure. Have fun planning, its half the fun of the trip.

Well, almost but not quite!! its about 15 minutes away!! Storyland is a great affordable family park with a very friendly staff and atmosphere. We go every year with our kids and have gone every year since we were kids! Def. for the younger crowd, but older kids will also enjoy the bamboo Shoots flume ride, Dr. Geisers Remarkable Raft Ride, the Loopy Lab and many other things!! You can certainly spend a whole/full day there. And the food is great and resonably priced.

Eastern Slope Inn is great! verry nostalgic - lots of NH history there! There are all kinds of hotels/motels/accomodations here in town.... from chains to locally owned to luxury condo units and homes.

Tons of shopping and outdoorsy things to do. Can't beat the sales at the outlets. or the views from the mountains.... You won't run out of things to do. Check out www.mountwashingtonvalleyorg.com


North Conway is also home to the "Polar Express" Literacy Fundraising event every Christmas... The Conway Scenic RailRoad takes loads of passengers in the jammies to the "North Pole" to hear an amazing reading of Christopher Van Alsbergs Book, "The Polar Express" with a special visit from Santa. So AMAZING!! anyway, I am rambling...
Storyland is great, I am sure you and your family will come away with many wonderful memories!!

So funny - I live in the same town/are as Storyland, my parents live on Ossipee Lake,I know The eastern Slope Inn so well, My Son went to Funtown/Splash Town just last weekend for a birthday party, we bought our new Durango at Jolly John right next door( A thread I had started back in July about buw/used cars) so funny! all that 6 degress business really does happen, huh!? WOW! DH and I were just talkinga bout this the other night. How we would liek to take the kid sout there next summer!! I went there many times as a kid with my parents and DH went to college out there. such a beatiful spot and great camping! We are def. planning a trip there next summer!

We went to Storyland in June (part of a larger NE trip). My kids LOVED it - my just-turned-7-year-old is not a thrillseeker. Honestly, I think they'd rather go back to Storyland than Disney! It is just a magical, old-fashioned place.

We stayed in North Conway at the Holiday Inn Express. Gotta say it was one of the nicest, cleanest chain motels I have ever experienced - we were very pleased. Maybe we'll try the Eastern Slope Inn next year though!
