We had a bad wind storm and I know others have been having their share too. A BIG tree fell in front of the house, across the entire street and knocked electric wires off. Now although it was a huge tree, a guy got out of his car with his lil DD and was trying to move branches and get his car by it . It took electrical wires down dude!! MY DH yelled hey hey get outta there! He said those are live wires!! The guy said oh, I didn't see them... my gosh he coulda got killed!

I know most of us know this, but please do not ever go near a tree or pole when its down. You can not always see the wires within the mess and it is not worth the risk. :sad2:

With the winter coming, please stay safe and avoid these kinds of things.

Good post.

I worked for a utility company for 37 years and it's unvelievable what some people will do. Some don't walk away so lucky. Sometimes people think a wire is dead because it isn't sparking or think it's safe because they recognize it as being telephone or cable TV. Folks, when wires, poles and trees are down, even the usually harmless wires can be energized by being wrapped in or in contact with electrical wires somewhere in the mess, even down the street.

Even linemen assume nothing. It's not dead until it's isolated, tested, and grounded. And up to that point, they use rubber gloves and hot sticks. A seemingly harmless wire could be energized at thousands of volts. And, insulation doesn't always protect you.

Thanks! I worry about the teen drivers too, who might now think anything of it, hopefully parents explain these things to them too.
