I just received a reminder letter from Disney that the Stormalong slide and pool will be closed April 9th through the 30th. A shuttle bus will be available to take Yacht Club, Beach Club, and BCV guests to the Luna Pool at the BoardWalk and they invite guests to use the leisure pools.

I hate Disney's policy of waiting to make announcements until it's too late for guests to change their vacation plans during rehabs and closures. :sad2:

Boy, I'm disappointed!

It's only a reminder if I knew about it!

I read about it the other day but I did not get a reminder. Was it in an email?

Sadly, we are there 4/7 through 4/12 with my extended family including 4 nieces and nephews. We specifically booked that resort because of the pool with all the cousins. I have not received any information from Disney, only this board. =(

Honest answers please. :thumbsup2

If Disney notified you in time for you to change your plans and you did.

Then the rehab was delayed and during your stay the pool was open but you were already booked somewhere else, would that bother you?

Well, I would only try to change to BWV because I and my family & guests are going for the F&G festival, and I love the short walk home after the flower power concerts.

If I had been notified, I would have changed to standard view at BWV, so the stay would have been fewer points. Then if the rehab didn't happen, I would be saving points, and thus be happy.

I bought and use BCV points at BCV exclusively, I paid a premium for them and without SAB, I do not feel I am getting my money's worth. I own at BWV and book standard view exclusively there. (except for a GV stay someday!)

My family does have 2 more stays in BCV this year. I am annoyed, but will get over it, will probably contact member services when I get home, saying just what I said here.

My DS just told me that HE got a letter, snail mail, telling him go the renovations. I'm not home, in Cape May:goodvibes, so don't know if I did get a notice. I sure hope so, I pay the bills!

The Luna Pool will be packed!!
I don't think that it's big enough to accommodate all
the families who book BC esp. for the pool.
Did they say when it would be completed?

Oops sorry DN just saw the dates ending the 30th

This happened to us early in the month at GCV no letter no email nothing at check in. When I asked if we could go to the Disneyland Hotel the answer was no!

At BWV April 8-13.It is always crowed at Easter now it will be worse.

I wonder how many people will take the walk to BWV and how many will just go to quiet pools.

For those booked at BCV what do you plan on doing?

Glad I did not use extra points to stay at BCV this year.

According to the notice just received by mail today. It states that JUST the SLIDE is closed and that the rest of the pool area is open.

I really hope this is the case because this is our first stay At BCV and my kids are so looking forward to the pool, lazy river, etc. I was finally able to get a reservation at 7 months out and really was looking forward to it too.

I will not be happy!!! 21 days before our visit and they drop this on us. Ugh!!!

Seriously, why not do the refurb in the winter months...?

If it's just the slide then that's not as bad. This doesn't affect me for this year but we are planning on a BCV trip with DH's family early 2013 and I am nervous now that this could happen again. Does anyone know how often they do rehabs on the pools? And if they're only doing the slide this year will they maybe do the rest of the pool 2013? I would feel so bad for my in-laws if we were shut out of that pool - it is pretty much the only reason we would stay there (with them) and this will be their first visit. I would rather know well in advance so I could go elsewhere.

I just got my letter in the mail today and i am so MAD! We are booked at DVC for April 15th - 21st and booked this because of the pool. Our letter does say slide and a portion of the pool, but they don't specify how much of the pool will be closed. I can't believe that they are doing this at the busiest time of year (Easter/spring break) for the parks. Who planned this? Must be some stupid corporate jerk. The DVC pool is going to be mobbed as is Luna Park and the quiet pools. Wish I could get my money back or change to another resort, but it is too late and we would get in to a holding situation, which I don't want to do.

Ok, here is what is going on.

They are working on the filtration system in the section of the pool at the base of the slide. It will have to be drained, etc. so naturally that means close the slide.

The rest of the pool, not in that area, lazy river, kids area " will be open"

As to why now, Disney does a lot of out sourcing and this is when the company is available to do it.

The date has changed several times and until they felt they had a firm commitment from the company that is doing it, they were not going to notify the guests.

Disney is open 365 days 24/7, someone is always going to be inconvenienced.

It is not the best situation, but honestly I don't know how you can expect them to keep everything repaired and in good working order without this happening to someone.

If you are upset it happened to you and wish it had happened to someone else, well sorry that says more about you than Disney.

There have been posts that in this case it is actually an emergency repair, found during repairs back in Jan. Something to do with the filtration piping and system for that section. It sounds like parts are arriving just before the shut down.

Hoping for everyone who is down in April that it is a quicker repair that they have allotted for.

That is correct. :thumbsup2

We must have received different letters. My letter states, "Beginning Monday, April 9, the pool and slide will be closed to Guests so that we may begin this effort. We expect the project to be completed in late April. The rest of the complex will remain open for your enjoyment".

That tells me that the pool will be closed but that Hurricane Hanna's and other non pool items will be open.

Guess we will just have to wait and see.

The only part of the pool that will be closed is near the base of the slide. That section near there.

Lazy river and the rest will be open. As bookwormde said it was discovered during the previous work and now it is being fixed.

Ok, to be more specific for Bill, ;)

The slide will be closed.

The area on this map that contains Sinking Sands, Bubblin Bay, and Whirling Waters will be closed. It will be drained and all that sand removed to work on the filtration system.

Everything else will be open.

If this is the case, the letter is very misleading. When I am told that the pool will be closed and I can use the Quiet pools, it makes me think that the pool will be closed.

We are staying at the Yacht Club and BCV next month so I am glad that most of the pool will be open.

(If you see a Whale floating down the lazy river, don't harpoon it, it will be me)! :rotfl2:
