Storing clear stamps?

I tried searching for this, but the same search is still running...it's been 20 minutes already!!

Anyway, I remember reading that someone had put the clear stamps from Michaels $1 bins into CD jewel cases. In our geek household we have boatloads of those things. (We just went through & got rid of old programs that to run in Windows 3.1 :rotfl: )

So I sat down & tried to put some of those clear stamps into one & have a question. There seems to be an awful lot of wasted space because of the size of the stamps. Do you cut apart the individual stamps or just leave the "sheet" in tact? :confused3 They'd fit a lot better if they were cut, but I'm not sure how you use them. Some of the shapes are sooo tiny!! I just wonder whether it's more difficult to work with the tiny pieces or trying to keep the areas you're not using out of the ink! ;)

TIA!

I would suggest cutting them apart if they aren't already apart. The set I got from Techinque Tuesday this weekend (a tiny edition) had some small stamps and they were not that bad to work with but I couldn't imagine trying to only get one of them in the ink if they were all on my block.

I'm not sure if I am understanding. As I read that last sentence, I get the impression that you are keeping the stamps on the clear sheet when you are stamping.

When I use them, I peel off only the stamp(s) I will be needing and stick them onto a clear plastic block before applying the ink and stamping.

:rotfl2: What a doofus I am!! :upsidedow

I'd only looked closely at the one set. It must be defective because the entire sheet is stuck together...like a single sheet of clear plastic with 4 or 5 figures in it. The others are individual stamps on the plastic. So I can cut the sheets they're on apart without any trouble.

Now that whole CD storage thing makes more sense. When I put them in still attached as a "set", only 2 sets fit in the jewel case with lots of wasted space. Now I can fill it up.

All this for 5 sets of those stamps! I always seem to miss when they put them out. Someone sent me one as a thank you gift for a swap and just 3 weeks ago I must have gotten there the same day they put them out because I got 4. LOL But then I also have some that came with a couple of my Coluzzle sets and I like this idea for storage. :thumbsup2

The Studio g stamp sets that most people are finding at Michael's (not mine) are also at my JoAnn's (which doesn't have many of the things others find at their J's). I also saw some of the exact same ones at Archiver's. They are in the $1.99 section there instead of the $1 sections like at M's and J's. Archiver's also has clear stamps from Autumn Leaves (mostly florals, but bigger than the Studio g ones). Archiver's has the clear blocks in that section, but my J's didn't have any when I was there.

How does that CD case thing work? Can you take out the circle thingy that holds the CD? I've heard that idea for storage, but I wasn't sure how it worked. It sounds like a great idea instead of sandwiching them back between the clear sheets.

BTW, which set seems defective?

Wait - they had names?!?!? :rotfl2: I had no idea! ;) The defective set is the one that has a rectangle with lines that says "thanks" another area that just says "My Friend" (although it really, really looks like "My Frifnd" :lmao: ) and something else that looks like a sentence but I can't begin to read it because the sheet with the black text isn't aligned properly with the actual stamp...it's like looking at it cross-eyed. LOL

As for the CD cases - yes, you can pull out the part with the circle. If you look closely you can see that the 2 pieces are held together at 6 points (usually) - along the top & bottom edges there should be 1 near the hinge and to closer to the other end. Just use your fingernail to pull the edge of the outer case away from the circle piece. I usually start at the hinge end. The only thing is that the lid-hinged-flap-thingy actually has a gap in it. But I like that I have multiples of these & they're all the same size. I have a larger one that came in the mail with an AOL CD in it, but it isn't "square" (the inner edges have a dip in them) and it's one-of-a-kind. I like things to be uniform. ;)

I don't know when I'll get down there again, but if you like I'll check for one of the blocks - they had them the last time I was there but I didn't get one since my Coluzzle library pocket template came with one.

I'll have to check at my J's too - but as of a month ago they didn't have any of these.

Thanks for the offer to check, but I got my clear block when I was at Archiver's since I hadn't had any luck finding the stamps at M's. It was only recently that I found the studio g ones at J's and then Archiver's.

I don't know if they have names or not.:) I'll have to look for the "frifnd" set. I was just asking because my set that had the word "love" and some hearts had been attached together as one piece, but then came apart fairly easily when I pulled a little on them. My other set was all seperate when I got them. Maybe your set isn't defective. Sounds like some sets are attached and others aren't Did you try to pull the stamps apart?

That's good to know about the CD cases. Thanks. I didn't want to start pulling them apart and breaking them. I'm going to have to see if we have any extras. I think I'll like that storage system for the few clear stamps I have. Maybe I'll have to get more.

Autumn Leaves are also at Walmart for almost half of what you would pay at Archiver's or LSS.

I like the cd case idea and saw where someone had labled the ends so they could tell what was in each one. I haven't used most of mine yet so they are still in their packets.

You actually use the scrap supplies you buy?!?!? :rotfl: :rotfl:

I haven't used mine either - I was just trying to put some things away & reduce the clutter in my area. They were an impulse buy for me since every time I've looked for them in the past M's didn't have them...I just got them because M's had them. LOL

As for labeling the ends...I don't know that I'd be able to read what was there IF I could write that small in the first place. :rotfl2: You'd be surprised at how many of those little Studio G ones will fit into the cases! LOL (At least once you cut them apart ;))

I'd love to get the pirate set that Collected Memories shows on their site. Unfortunately they were out of stock when CM was offering $5 off a $15 order. :(

The only ones I've bought at Archiver's have been three of them from the $1.99 bin. I'm sure they want a lot for the sets.
I'll have to look at WM when I go to check and see if they've clearanced my Cricut carts down to a price I'm willing to spend. (The clearance ones at my WM are still at $45. I've seen people post that their Wal Marts had them at $25 so I'm waiting it out.)

Well I use some of the supplies I buy! :thumbsup2 Let me tell you scrapping is a lot less expensive than my sewing habit. I've moved my buying from my sewing/fabric supplies to my scrapping habit.

The Autum Leaves are the larger packages that usually cost around $18-20 but Walmart has a few for $8. I just bought the swirly ones and can't wait to use them.

My Walmart has lowered the older carts to $49. :confused3 I can use my internet J's coupon to get them for less.

That's the exact same thing I was thinking. Although, I've had to special order mine since my J's doesn't carry any.

that's me. I label the ends of the cd cases. I type the names on the computer and adjust the font size so it will all fit. It makes it SO EASY to store them and then to find which ones you need.

I stopped at Wal-Mart for several things this afternoon, but sadly mine still doesn't carry anything Cricut. :sosad: I was hoping to find some clear stamps, but their craft section was re-worked & they no longer carry any stamps!!! :scared1: Scrap stuff is now one side of one short aisle, ribbon is less than 1/3 of what they used to carry, but there's more yarn than ever! Not enough to explain the lack in other aisles, but I couldn't figure out what they added either. :confused3

Maybe the next time we go to the IL's I can talk DH into checking...theirs is a Super Wal-Mart.

I have all my studio g stamps in several mini photo albums (they also came from m's) and have sleeves, the stamps just slide right in. maggie
