I am looking for a storage unit to hold all of our DVDs and CDs. We currently have a 200 disc CD player that holds most of our stuff; however, we are upgrading our TV and surround sound which will require an actual separate storage unit for all the CDs and DVDs.

I am looking for something with doors that you can close so that everything looks neat and not cluttered. I'm having a hard time finding something that has good reviews.

Any suggestions? Does anyone own a unit that they love and holds up well? We are leaning towards a wood that has a dark (merlot or espresso) finish.

Do you have an IKEA nearby? You can send for a catalog too. They have many different storage systems. I bought a bookcase shelving system that you could buy extra shelves for to convert into a DVD storage system. It doesn't have doors to close, but it was exactly what I needed. Check with them - they have lots of great ideas and systems. HTH!

Bumping!
I need cd/dvd storage also. wondering of the IKEA units look inexpensive? I'd like something a little upscale. (just not sure how IKEA looks, not being negative)

Discgear.I got mine from QVC; had it for years and works great!

Well, I went with a cd/dvd binder - 12x12x4. http://www.google.com/products/cata...ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CCoQ8wIwAA#ps-sellers. Low cost small space required. I dumped all the plastic cases in the recycle bin. I love it cause there's no more boxes all over the floor when the kids go looking for a movie or game. Stands up on the shelf like a book, right next to the DVD player. I think they make bigger ones. BTW this is the solution recommended on all those decluttering shows on TV.

Thanks for the suggestion. After talking to DH again, I think this is what we will be purchasing since we can just put it on one of our bookshelves in the family room. We are really making an effort to declutter this year, so this appears to be the best solution. Thanks again! :goodvibes

I read this post interested in a shelf unit too. After seeing the binder idea, I did a search and found several options that allow you to keep the coverart and inserts for the DVDs right there with them and is easy to flip through. I will be getting this today-- thanks!

I will keep the plastic boxes in my attic for the kid movies so when they outgrow them or get tired of them, we can move them back in their cases and sell them.

I purchased one of those two years ago at our local Walgreens. It was either 9.99 or 15.99. I use it for all our DVD's that I record - like our vacation DVDs or ones I tape from TV. I have not gotten the nerve to get one for our pre-recorded CD/DVD. Can't bring myself to get rid of jewel cases yet.

One thing about IKEA. Friends of ours purchased a corner cabinet with knobs and they changed out the IKEA knobs for glass ones they purchased at Home Depot. It completely changed the look of the cabinet - for the better. If you see something at IKEA - or anywhere else - think about changing out the knobs - it is an inexpensive way of updating something. I know some knobs get expensive - especially if you need alot of them - but it can really update something.
