Storage Space?

What amount of storage space is available in the staterooms (we have a Cat 5).

The reason I ask is that we are on a 7 night cruise with another 7 days in Orlando when we finish the cruise, and so we need a lot of clother to keep us going.

Currently we are thinking of bringing 4 large, hard sided samsonite cases (1 per person), but I'm worried there will be nowhere to store them?

We stored our luggage under the bed....I don't bring hard luggage though as they are to heavy for me..the airlines limit the weight on your bags stricker now so I take soft luggage that doesn't weigh much....I forget the specs on the under the bed storage but our suitcase was pretty large and it fit under there. There is also some room inthe closet for bags and you could put the life vests under the bed and use that shelf in the closet for bags. When I did a week at Disney and the cruise I rented a car and just packed what I thought I would need in one suitcase and left the others in the trunk of the car in the parking lot.

info....luckily we're flying with Virgin and they have pretty generous baggage allowances, so the weight isn't a problem.

Hopefully they will fit under the beds

On other cruises I have been on, the stewards/stewardesses would store your excess luggage somewhere out of the way after you were finsihed packing and bring them back to you the evening before departure so you could pack up. Does Disney do this - I hope?

yes they will take it for you there is also a large closet that you can put some luggage on the bottom of. You should be fine space wise.

DCL does not have a policy of taking everyone's extra luggage...I think a lot depends on your individual room steward. People here have reported that some stewards would take some of their luggage and some room stewards would not.

I would not count on DCL taking your extra luggage.

thanks for the help everyone....that's one problem solved, onto the next one:)

Another hint, if your luggage doesn't seem to fit under the bed, lift the bed slightly - its very light - and your suitcase should slide underneath easily.

Without this hint, I'd have been lost. Mine didn't fit without the lift, and I'm not sure it would have occurred to me that I could lift or there would be more room if I did.

You can also put the lifejackets under the bed and use the closet shelf for storage.

Another thought....since you have a week at WDW....why not pack for one week and plan on doing some laundry on land? All the WDW resorts have laundry rooms with several washers and dryers. I've only had trouble getting availability once.

We usually do WDW first. I pack one "cruise only" bag of my dressy stuff, snorkel gear, etc. That's one bag for the family that will not be opened till the cruise. The "play clothes," I pack one bag for each person and plan to do laundry the last evening at WDW. I've considered waiting till Sat. morning, but don't want to risk not getting the washers I need. With this method, all our stuff is clean when we get on the ship. It could easily work in the reverse for you.

On our 11 day trip earlier this year (4 days at WDW and 7 day RCL cruise) we were able to fit our luggage under the bed, no problem, we did have to lift it to get them past the frame. I would think the beds on DCL would be the same. Also we had bags of different sizes and so were able to store smaller bags inside the larger ones. For example a small case and garment bag both fit inside one large case. This way, we got all 5 bags (for 4 people) and the life vests under the bed, leaving closet space for our clothes, shoes and a laundry bag.
