Storage in Studios

We just got back from our first stay in a BCV studio. I was shocked at the lack of storage! There are only four, weird stunted drawers surrounding the pull down twin bed, and there is no space under the queen sized bed to store bags.

The room was delightful for our party of two adults. We pulled down the twin sleeper and put our bags on it, which worked out quite nicely. But I think it would have been very cluttered in the room if our kids were along with all of their stuff too.

So which studios have the best storage/drawer space?

BLT has the most storage/drawer space that I have stayed in because it has that odd layout with the kitchenette area.

HOWEVER, it is also the smallest feeling studio I have ever stayed in! So you gain in storage, but lose in living space.

The problem with BCV is the small trundle bed. That would normally be a dresser. When they refurbish the room it will get a Murphy bed couch and storage under the queen bed. Until then, that’s all you’ll get there, and at BWV and BRV.

That’s one of the prices we pay since DVC has made that studio (BCV) sleep 5.

That’s my principal annoyance with BWV since they were refurnished. Even the dresser that is provided is less functional that it could be in the available space. The doors that slide into the unit reduce the avail width for the drawers. The drawers themselves are much smaller than they could be in height and depth as well as width. A basic dresser with 4 or 5 regular drawers would provide about twice the storage in the same footprint. There seems to be a sacrifice of appearance for functionality, although I think you could achieve the same appearance with a simpler design that maximizes the available storage space. My DW and I wonder if the interior designers who do these rooms have ever stayed in one. Don’t even get me started on how the cushions on the sofa in the BWV studios are impossible to keep in place. They slide out as soon as you sit on them.

BWV has a chest of drawers, 1 drawer wide about 4 drawers. You can see it here next to the pull down bed. It looks like a cabinet but when you open the doors its drawers.

I feel the same way! I think they with their families should be required to stay for at least two or three nights in an accurate model before final design approval is granted. Not only for storage but even for functionality of lighting, shower head, hanging towels for use more than once, etc.

YES! We stayed in a BWV studio last February and I don’t remember thinking that storage was a big problem. That’s part of why I was so surprised to find the storage lacking in the BCV studio. I assumed they would be about the same.

I agree, those drawers next to the pull-down bed in the BCV studio were really strange. They were so weird, I made notes about them:
There are 4 drawers on the sides of the tv (2 on either side).
They are a strange shape.
They are rough inside, like the edges need to be sanded.
I would not put clothing in there unless I first put it in a zip loc bag to prevent snagging.
You would have to roll your clothing and have it stand up vertically to fit in there.

I agree about designers not staying in the villas they design nor use the furniture they install. I have yet to find a chair or sofa that is not too low for me. I've put a sofa cushion on top of a side chair and even that was still low. Most of the chairs are awful for sitting - cute to look at, but awful for sitting. I haven't stayed at RIV nor in renovated SSR, but there has got to be some comfortable furniture for original members who are older now. A child can always climb up onto a chair, but an older adult will need assistance just to get up off the chair. And don't talk to me about the pool furniture. They used to have regular type chairs scattered here and there. Now just the low loungers.

We were VERY impressed with the storage in Riviera Studios - a small alcove for our Owner's Locker (and/or stroller, etc), room under beds for luggage, 2 large drawers at end of bed, 2 nightstands with drawers, and the table by sofa with another 2 deep drawers. Not to mention the bigger room size, and HUGE walk-in shower (plus tub/shower).
Our Riviera Studio felt more like a studio/1 bdrm cross than any studio elsewhere!

100% agree! RIV studios hands-down have the best storage & most space. I need room for a Fold & Go wheelchair, Owner’s Locker, luggage, food... and people! 😂

BLT has fantastic clothing/food storage, but it’s painful (if not impossible) to fit the F&G, OL, +people... and still be able to walk around. 😬

BCV is somewhere in the middle. Easier to fit the F&G in the entryway, but harder to put my ebags (with clothing & toiletries) anywhere outside of my suitcase.
