stopping cigs - no lectures - just venting

Good job! That is a tough thing to quit. My still-smoking family members would be sooo jealous!

On that note, I quit cold turkey 10 yrs ago in January. I do still crave one now and again, usually swilling beer with friends in bars ;) But now it is merely psychological craving. Definitely find something to do at your favorite smoking times, that you could not do with a cigarette in your hand. Going for a jog or bike ride is a good one. Brushing teeth, showering, those are great ideas too!

YAY for you!

Beth

Been there done that. You can do it just hang in there! :grouphug: I promise you it will be one of the best choices you will make in your life! :flower:

Keep going, and I know you will do great. This is really a wonderful step to take for your health. One thing I don't think has been mentioned is this: If you slip and have a cigarette, DON'T HAVE ANOTHER! Don't let 1 moment of weakness derail you permanently. Quitting is really hard, but it's worth it!

That's so true!

I can't tell you how many slipups I had the first couple of years. I'd smoke one, then throw the whole pack away. :rotfl2: What a waste of money, but at least I wasn't going to allow myself to go right back to the bad habit, which is what I would have done if I'd kept the pack.

That was me this morning. Tire separated on the way to work. At tire place all of these guys were outside smoking. Me, stressed, late for a departmental meeting (which I lead) and I had not had any coffee yet. I was ready to scream. I lost it and smoked a cig. That is ok. Move on, life is good.

First of all, good for you!

When I was dieting, I found the hardest part of the day to be in the evenings. I'd already eaten dinner and wasn't supposed to have any more food for the day. I'd get really hungry sitting and watching t.v. (all the food comercials don't help either!). So I started playing video games! The nights just flew by and I forgot to be hungry!

So for me the key was getting my mind off of it and keeping my hands busy on the game controllers. Maybe you should trying doing an activity that keeps your hands and mind busy?

Been there also. Have been quit 2.5 years (and counting!) There's a lot of advice to be given. 2 most important...

1...Treat it like a drug addiction because that's exactly what it is.

2...Then go to www.whyquit.com. Read and read and read. He is RIGHT. That site alone got me through it. Since I was kind of a closet smoker, I didn't have much...any...support. Join the discussion group and participate.

You are too far into this to stop now. If you go back, if you have even one, you will have to start all over again because the chemical is now out of your body. Do you really want to start ALL OVER AGAIN?

You are welcome to PM me anytime for support or to talk. I have a hole in my bedroom wall that reminds me everyday how hard quitting was (I put the hole there). I don't intend to have to quit again.

I am woman, hear me roar. Ok, so I am actually whimpering, but I will roar again soon. I am too scared to go downstairs near the door. I may see my Mom going out for ciggie, and that could be the end.

Hang in there... I slipped yesterday too, mindlessly. My oldest DS smokes and had left his pack out. I grabbed one, went outside and lit up!!! It was just after dinner, one of my favorite times. I realized what I was doing (took another good long drag) and put it out.
I've got to quit, I've got to quit, I've got to quit.

Hey, you can do this! You proved that by slipping, but then not smoking the pack. And stay away from your mom! :)

I had major surgery last week, twice during my first night I woke myself up trying to smoke. I had managed six days without and broke down over the weekend. I will say it has helped with pain management but I DON"T want to do it anymore. I have "borrowed" the op support group here and going to try again. Thanks for listening :flower:

Borrow away! Sorry to hear about the surgery. Good luck with the smoking.

Just wanted to say DH almost bought a pack of cigs out of HABIT when he went in to pay for gas & his soda!! He caught himself and told them he didn't want the smokes.
Good for him.

:wizard: Good Luck! Keep going! Quitting is hard, hard, hard! But it feels better to be a non-smoker. YOU can do it!

Keep up the good work and keep posting!

Anne

Acupuncture was the way to go for me. I've been smoke free for almost 10 years! :)

Good luck :wizard:

Well, how is everyone doing? I cheated again, but I must admit, normally I would have smoke 195 cigs by now. I have only smoked 5. I am doing my best to keep at it. Would love to hear from some of the others.

Don't beat yourself up over the cigarettes you have smoked, but feel proud about what you haven't smoked!

How are you doing?

I heard some great advice awhile ago:

Practice makes perfect and sometimes you need a lot of practice when quitting smoking before you suceed. And that is OK!
:cheer2:
