OK, decided my life wasn't hard enough right now soooo. I thought, hey, let's try to quit smoking.

Right now I am in dire need of a cig according to my body. Instead of smoking, I am posting. Please, do not lecture me or tell me what a fool I have been in the past for smoking. Please do not tell me how easy it is too quit. Please do not tell me what a loser I will be if I falter.

Sorry, I said everything above because I am sick and tired of listening to my "friends" explain to me how I will be a complete putz if I slip and have a cig.

I have been smoking Camel non-filters since 1979. This is NOT easy. I am on Welbutron (spelling) and if it is helping I would hate to go through this cold turkey.

I was told to smoke like normal then after a week on the med just stop. 76% percent success rate. I wonder how many in the 76% refuse to admit they had one.

It has been 46.5 hours and I am jonesing. I know this is a "family" site, but I had a morphine perscription after my spinal surgery for the pain. After 3 months of shots every 3-4 hours, I decided I wanted off of the stuff. No problem. WHY IS THIS SOOOOOO DARN HARD???

I am tired of shaking like some drunk going through DT.

Sorry, needed to vent. I may come back to this thread if the need gets strong again. The only person home with me right now is my Mom who chain smokes, my father who had a serious head injury and is telling me life is to short, and my daughter who my husband promised I would quit (although he had NO right to do that. You cannot promise that someone else will do something).

THANKS, I think I will be ok now! Just keep counting right?

 It's understandably tough right now. Good luck. You'll be so proud of yourself when you succeed. :)

Good luck! Everyone in my family smokes and wants to quit. If you can do it, then that's great! Hang in there and if it helps to vent then do it!!! :goodvibes

Good luck, you are doing a good thing for yourself and those who love you.

Keep up the good work. It isn't easy. Every cig you don't smoke is one less. Celebrate the ones you manage to go with out and keep going strong.

You can do it. :cheer2: :cheer2:

Just think next year when people rant about smokers you can say you are an X smoker. :teeth:

Youre doing great!!

Good for you!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I know you can do this. Its natural to have those cravings but you are STRONG! Look how far youve come already :)

:cheer2: :cheer2:

No lectures but heres a tip, every time you want one go brush your teeth. Not only will it stop the craving for awhile you will have very white teeth :teeth:

Been there, done that. No lectures. I've quit and started back and felt like such a fool. Had to go through it all over again. I will tell you that you will feel so incredibly "free" once you've gone a few days without a smoke that you will hardly be able to believe it. Then you'll notice that you feel a little better, more willing to move around or go out and you'll notice that the smell of a cigarette is really ugly. The one thing you have to remember is that you can never quit quitting. If you have a slip you have to get right back on that horse again and be more resolved than ever. I used the patches and they really helped me get through the first weeks. Then I reached a point where I was able to make the decision day by day that I would not buy cigarettes. I slightly changed my eating habits so that I didn't obsess about weight gain and felt like I was really doing something positive for my life and those who love me. Don't give up even if you give in. Just remember, no one ever died from quitting smoking---it just seems like you will when the craving is so strong. I wish you the very best. Keep us posted.

No lectures here...I did it 13 years ago October 6th! Good luck and you know that saying one day at a time...I kept telling myself that if I just made it through the next hour, the day, the week...in some strange way it helped me. :wizard: :grouphug:

YEAH!!! Good luck!! As others said, focus on the ones that you went without. YEEAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! :cool1: :bounce:

It is one of the strongest addictions to break....anyone that tells you that it is easy to do is kidding themselves...they even say it is worse than a heroin addiction..

I did it years ago with help from my doctor and took wellbutrin to get over the hump and then just weaned off the wellbutrin. I also know that I cannot pick up a cigarette ever again or I would be right back there smoking....the urge leaves but the want is always there..

Good luck to you....you are doing the right thing coming here to vent instead of smoking... we are here to support you through this. Feel proud of yourself that you are taking these steps for better health.. Bravo to you...

My Dad had is share of addictions in life (alcohol and cigarettes). He said stopping the cigs was the toughest. You can do it! Hang in there!

Been there, done that. Am currently in the process of quitting again so I do know how hard it is.
The best piece of advice I can give you is when it's REALLY bad, do something - anything - read an article, flip the TV channel, go through the mail (you get my drift right?) it usually gets your mind off of the craving. Plan on what you'll do with all the extra money - heck, my DH told me we can buy DVC if I quit cuz it won't cost us a dime if I put all my cigarette money into the payment!! Hang in there......

When I quit, I was smoking the non-filtered Camels also, 2 packs a day. It was tough, but did it. You WILL too. Take it, a morning, an afternoon, and evening at a time. Not even a whole day, just parts of the day. You'll see. Good wishes.

I completely understand. I didn't believe I was physically addicted to cigarettes. I really thought it was a psychological thing. I surely didn't feel like an addict. I started chewing nicotene gum on october 1st. It really does take the physical craving away. It's hard when you friends & family still smoke. It really hard while driving my car or after a big filling meal. This gum seems to be doing the trick for now so I'm gonna keep on chewing. Just remember that you are not alone. :goodvibes

I quit for the last time 10 years ago. It's the hardest thing I think I've ever done. But SO worth it. I felt better after only a week or so and am pretty sure I smelled better too. ;)

I was behind someone recently who was buying cigs and WOW :earseek: they're expensive now! Think of all the money you'll save. :cool1: Maybe as an incentive you can put all your cig money into a jar and if you stay smoke-free for a month you can take it out and do something nice for yourself.

Hang in there. It WILL get easier.

Good luck, be strong!

My husband quit a little over 2 years ago and swears he physically feels 100% better than he did while he smoked. He still craves them now and then but he refuses to give in because of how much better he feels.

Wowser, two pages. Thanks for the support everyone! You guys in this with me, feel free to PM me if you need to talk.

Thanks again for no lectures.
