Actually I think the Debate Board was a pretty good place. It was an exchange of ideas & while there were some people that took things too far, I think most of the posters had a pretty good opinion of others that differed with them on politics and/or religion.

I think it got a bad wrap because of it's name & the fact that a few trouble makers weren't content with a civilized conversation. In reality the Resort board, Cruise board, etc are where the really rough threads came from Some of them have become legendary (or infamous rather) - refillable mugs, 5 to a room, pool hopping... Oddly enough these threads seem to garner a whole lot more ill will than discussions of tax cuts, welfare reform or gay rights ever did on the DB.

I wasn't implying it would be or was was a bad place. I wasn't here when it existed. Maybe call it something else, then. I was just saying things get derailed and go off topic. It would be nice if there was a forum for people to discuss heated topics instead of doing it in the middle of other people's threads.
It seemed to work well with Katrina - they gave it a separate place. That is all I have to say

I liked the debate board ! This is where I entered the DIS , after planning a vacation. And it di get ugly sometimes , but as someone said , to sytart a new debate boar might keep some well intentioned thread to be Higjacked. I know I posted on the conservative thread , when this not my place ( but i was , I must say well received there)

You're assuming, however, that the creation of a Debate Board would somehow trap all "mean people" there and they would never read the CB, though.

I agree, once again I've stumbled upon a thread where responses apparently are not welcome unless you are from a certain group of people. At least this time it wasn't me who got the new eyerolling thread started aimed at them. IMO - THAT's the kind of nastiness I don't like to see here.

Yes, can you tell I have an issue with certain kinds of posts? I've had the eyerolling threads started to make fun of me after accidently wandering in to posts where I was not welcome before. It is hurtful, and frankly uncalled for on this kind of forum.

Maybe the powers that be could start a new board -- the Eyerolling Thread Board (ETB for short) where people can feel free to start their or or threads about other people.
