Stop mowing the lawn - it's nap time???

OP, you cannot possibly be the ONLY neighbor around...does the woman do this to all the neighbors (the ones on the other side of her, behind her, across the street from her)?

OP, your DS was absolutely fine in mowing the lawn at 11am or 12pm or 1pm.

The woman needs to realize life goes on even though everything seems to stop in her house when junior goes in for his nap.

OP, you were a good neighbor. Waiting an hour was more than generous on your part. That mom was unreasonable in her request, and the sooner she gets that message, the better. A healthy child's schedule doesn't rule the neighborhood.

Wow, that lady has nerve! Ironically, my 4 year old and my 1 year old (and even my dh, lol!) are napping right this very minute. If a neighbor were to mow right now it would be okay because they would definitely sleep through it. Plus, it's 1:30 here so not too early or too late to mow at all.

I know when my dd was a baby I used to cringe every time one of the neighbor kids would ride his 4wheeler down the road because I was afraid he'd wake the baby. He never did and I NEVER said anything to him about it because to me that would have been completely out of line since he had just as much right to go on with his day as I did.

Your neighbor was completely out of line IMO. I would keep mowing and not give it a second thought.

As stated, as long as you're not mowing before 9am and after 9 pm, then who cares?

A baby should get used to sleeping with noise. My parents put my bassinette next to the tv when I was a baby. Noises while I sleep generally don't bother me still today.

She's have a fit if she lived in my house....my neighbor mows the lawn 5 times a week. Yes, I said 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! times a week!! It's ridiculous and hilarious-the grass never grows but he's out there mowing away. Sometimes the wife does it first and then he does it again after work They mow in the rain, in the dark, doesn't matter.

I know. It drives me mad. I have a friend like that. Her only child is a year old but my other friend and I have teenagers (and younger kids too). The mom of the 1 year old is always saying things like 'oh you don't know how hard it is' and 'you're so lucky to get uninterrupted sleep' etc etc. We're always mystified that she truly believes we ourselves never went through sleepless nights, endless crying etc. Does she think our kids popped out of the womb fully grown and half reared?! LOL

I have a SIL who thinks she is the first person on the face of the earth to ever have had a baby. I just laugh to myself.

That neighbor was way out of line- the world does not revolve around her child, the sooner she realizes that the better off she will be! To ask a neighbor to not cut their lawn because their special little angel is sleeping is nuts. I would have had to reply "no problem, but my son only has a chance to do it now so if he stops then I would really appreciate it if you finished cutting the lawn for us later!" Bet that would change her mind. Anyone in their right mind knows that you continue on with regular household noise, NEVER get a child used to sleeping in silence!!

Let me be clear - **I** have never EVER asked a neighbor to stop mowing their lawn. Ever.

But if someone came to ME and asked to keep the noise down, I would. I have kids. I remember how annoying it was when things woke them up. So as a mom, I would cut her some slack. I would not think she is "nuts", just that she wanted her kid to get some sleep.

I try to be a nice neighbor. That's all.

My husband does all our mowing and he'd certainly comply with a request like that. BUT, because he only has a limited amount of time to do the lawn, the grass probably wouldn't get mowed for another week. And then the neighbor would probably complain about that too. Where does it end?

Well! Next time the yard crew shows up at nap time I will just go tell them to STOP mowing! Who knew?

I am a nanny. My bosses have a yard crew once a week. The next door neighbor also has a yard crew. So does every other flippin' house in the entire neighborhood! Yes, sometimes the mowers (or more often the leaf blowers) wake my little charge. That's life.

That was very nice of you to wait a little while to mow the lawn.

When we had our first son, we made the mistake of being quiet when he napped. It took a while for us to break him of the habit of needing it be quiet for him to sleep. Thankfully when DS#2 came along we knew that noise wouldn't keep a kid awake and now both can sleep through us playing Rockband at night!

She'll learn that all her hushing people not only hurt her in long run but also give her a "reputation".

She's so funny. I love the character too who's in the relationship with the guy on death row. When asked if she minds that he murdered loads of people and, um, canibalised their remains, she says 'well we all make mistakes'.

Oh no the sense of entitlement is not limited to just you Americans. Lol! It's pretty universal these days (or at least through the western world)!!

OP, in a couple of years, that child is going to be tearing around the yard shrieking like a banshee for no apparent reason -- make sure you walk over and ask her to pipe down because your son is trying to nap.

I would have said, "Sure, I'll quit mowing the lawn. When your baby's done napping, you can come out and finish it up for me! Thanks!" If she's not willing to do that, tell her to buy a box fan for the baby's room and get back to mowing your lawn.
