Stop Making Me Laugh Or I'll Pee My Pants! Go Back! I Lost My Shoe! Trip Report!

We've had a very quiet day, except for the dogs in my yard again. The sheriff came out again but it is a worthless cause. Scared my poor little Princess bad. She was outside when they broke thru the fence.

Have a great Monday.

Ginny

When I last left off, we had had a great day at the Animal Kingdom and were back at the resort to get ready for the Spirit of Aloha luau.

We were going to the late show so we had plenty of time to get ready. In 2008, we were supposed to go to the luau and I had bought John, Hunter and I matching clothes from Disney Outlet. We had to cancel that trip and when we went on our rescheduled trip, we couldn't fit the luau into our schedule. Since Hunter had outgrown his shirt, I had to find him another. When Lacey came home in May, we bought her a dress to match Hunter's shirt. We would be coordinated....something we rarely do while in Disney.

The lady at the CBR concierge desk told us that we needed to allow between 45 minutes and an hour to get to the luau. We were ready and had 50 minutes before the show was to begin. Stupid stupid me decided that we'd get on the Epcot bus since it came first. I later realized that we should have just waited for the Magic Kingdom bus.

So, we get on the bus to Epcot and were there in no time at all. We had to walk all the way from the bus stops to the monorail station. Lacey and I were in dresses and flip flops so it wasn't easy to go too fast. We walked up the monorail station and waited for the monorail. Luckily, we only had to wait 5 minutes to wait on a monorail. We hopped on and traveled to the Magic Kingdom. But, then, we had to get off and walk up the other side of the station and wait on the resort monorail. There, we had to wait about again. I was beginning to get a bit antsy at this point. Anyway, we finally made it to the Polynesian.

I had absolutely no idea where the luau took place. In hindsight, I should have done more research. I stopped and asked the first castmember I saw who pointed me in the right direction. It sure didn't look like we were going the right way so I asked the next castmember I saw. They told me that we would actually leave the main building, go down stairs and go all the way down a walkway to get to the luau.

Finally, we arrived at the entrance to the luau. We were all given leis and checked in. The photopass photographer was on hand and took this picture:

luau.jpg

We followed the pathway to the next check-in and were soon shown to our table. Our server came right away and brought out the most delicious pineapple coconut bread and fresh pineapple and salad. He took our drink order and was back in no time at all.

Hunter is a very picky eater but he loved the bread. It had a little sweet flavor to it and was just so good. The salad was absolutely delicious.

I took pictures but my camera was acting up. I honestly can't remember exactly what order the next parts took place. I don't remember if they brought the "real" food first or if they started the show first. I think they started the show first.

For those of you who haven't been to the luau, let me give you a little of the storyline. There's this Hawaiian girl who wants to go out and see the world. She comes back a "city girl" (my words) and realizes how much she has changed but wants to go back to the girl she was. The story is pretty cheesy but it was different.

There was a lot of traditional Hawaiian dancing, storytelling and fire twirling all of which made no real mention of the storyline. I actually liked it when they didn't follow the storyline.

Here are some pictures I took:

100_2569.jpg

Since we were using dining plan credits, we had Category 2 seating. We were to the left of the stage but had a pretty good view.

Again, my memory of what happened in what sequence. But, I think they brought out the food at this point. It was delicious! There were ribs, roasted chicken, steamed veggies and seasoned rice. The only thing we didn't care for was the rice. We are from Louisiana and are used to our rice having a glob of gravy on it or in a seafood dish. Everybody else around us were gobbling it up so it must have been good to them.

When our server brought out the food, he asked if Hunter wanted a hot dog. He came back with two. Even though Hunter is a picky eater, he really liked the roasted chicken.

Our server was really good about bringing out drink refills and more bread and pineapple. I could have just eaten the bread and pineapple and been happy.:lovestruc

At some point, they asked the kids to come onstage and learn a Hawaiian dance. It took a little urging but Hunter went up. These pictures aren't the best but the lighting was a dim.

Here's one of Hunter at the table still doing one of his dance moves:

100_2577.jpg

Next, they asked if anybody was celebrating a birthday. They were encouraged to come on stage and let the audience sing Happy Birthday to them.

After birthdays were acknowledged, they asked if anyone was celebrating their anniversary. John didn't want to go up so we just sat and watched the other couples. I am super glad that we didnt' go up there because they had everybody dancing. I am so not a dancer.

The show continued and two of the perfomers were really funny. It was the classic "I like you but I am afraid to say I like you" storyline. I wish I had more pictures but my camera was messing up like crazy.

100_2576.jpg

The performers took a break and dessert was served. It was some kind of mousse with raspberry drizzle. It was good.

100_2578.jpg

The next part of the show was the best part. The fire twirling guy came out and he was simply amazing. He got the crowd involved by asking us to clap and cheer. I tried taking pictures but they didn't turn out well at all. But, here are more pictures that are semi-okay:

Hunter was supposed to give his sister a kiss and she had to wait for him to get a drink first:

100_2584.jpg

We had a great time at the luau and would definitely recommend it to friends and family. It was a nice way to end the day.

As we walked down the pathway to the main building, Wishes started and we had a perfect view from the pathway. We stood and watched some of the fireworks. If I ever win the lottery, I want to stay at the Polynesian. It was beautiful!

***Up next: pictures with a Tiki God!

What a wonderful evening! so, you can do the lauau on the DDP that may be the other dining place we need to add! it looks like such a wonderful time!!!

that is a wonderful family picture of the four of you!!! and I know what you mean about staying at the poly I keep pricing it and than go back to the mods  just can't see departing with that much money for a place to sleep!

:wave2:Connie

That looked like a lot of fun. That was a real nice picture of the four of you. The food does sound good. I was afraid they would serve poi. YCH. Rice is a better alternative even when it isn't good. I'm sure Hunter made a good dancer. Wishes from the beach would be grand. I am like you I would love to stay at the Poly. We'll do that when we are rich.

Ginny

I was thinking of doing Spirit of Aloha this past trip. A few Diser's told me that someone Claire's age might get bored, and Skip really wanted to do the Hoop Dee Doo again, so I let it be. I do want to try it someday though.

Love the pictures!

We did the Spirit of Aloha on our trip in Dec 2008 and we thought it wasn't bad. We had a cool night for it so the food got cold faster then I'm sure it does when it's warm out. Once I had myself one of their yummy adult beverages though things seemed to look up!:thumbsup2

Great Luau update! Love the coordinated outfits...you all look great!

Jeff and I did a Luau at Sea World when we went there on our honeymoon and really enjoyed it. I bet we'd like the one at the Poly as well. The food sounds great!

Good for Hunter for going up and getting his groove on! Isaiah would have been up there showing off his sweet moves too!

You can use two table service dining plan credits to do any of the three dinner shows. We usually save our day of arrival table service and combine it with the table service credit on the night of the dinner show. (Hope that made sense.)

The true picture is lots better than the one I posted. The one I posted, I just scanned on my scanner and forgot to do the enhancements to it. So, it looks a little washed out.

I would love to stay at the Poly but there is no way that I can justify throwing down another $2,000.00 to stay there.

We had a really good time at the luau. We probably won't do it for another few years but that's just because we like to try new things. The food was good. The rice was okay but that's just our take on it. Everybody else seemed to be gobbling it up though.

Hunter was a little timid onstage. When he got back to the table, he did show us his classic "hand behind the head, shake my booty moves". He continued to do that dance move throughout the entire vacation. At least three of four times a day.

If I get rich, I'll be booking a stay at the Polynesian too. I'm always saying "when I win the lottery". I have no idea why I say that because I haven't bought a lottery ticket in years.

I think that Claire would like the luau. The show had just a few breaks in it and that's the time when you pig out on the food anyway. The dancers were extremely interesting. We loved the fire twirling, swirling, blowing guy.

We've done the Hoop Dee Doo two times and enjoyed it. I

I can see where the food would get cold if the temps weren't too high outside. You already know that it was sweltering hot when we were there so we had no problem with that!

John usually wouldn't do the coordinating outfits. I was super surprised that he agreed to it. One of the first things he told Lacey when she came home on break (and to get ready for the trip), was that she had to find a brown and white dress to wear to the luau.

I would definitely do the luau again. Next year? No, but simply because we like to try new things.

Hunter didn't get his groove on too much while on stage but he sure did when he got back to the table. I seriously wish we lived closer to you guys. I am sure that Hunter and Isaiah would become fast friends!

For just the $2000 extra for the poly would buy Don and I a really nice cruise. I am like you tho. I like to try new things. So once I've done it I'm ready to move on to something else. Don is pretty flexible. Since he is color-blind I just pick out what I want him to wear and he puts it on. When the girls were small if I didn't lay out their clothes for the day they were dressed disgraceful. I seriously mean that too. He has no concept of colors or patterns. Neither does his mom (who I love dearly).

I'm glad Hunter got on stage. My grandkids always had to be pushed a little but then would warm up to it. They really don't like to be singled out tho. But after the fact. Yep. Little Hunters.

Have a great day.

Great pictures--especially the one of all of you.:goodvibes I love the matching outfits!!!!

It looks like you guys had so much fun at the Luau and I'm so happy to see a positive review.:thumbsup2 I never seem to read much about it.:confused3 (mostly seem to hear about the HDDR.) We have recently been looking into the dinner shows for next trip and the Luau definitely looks like something that we will all enjoy!! I know the boys would love the fire-twirling.;)

I would love to stay at the Poly someday!!:cloud9: Hmmm....right now, I'd even settle for watching Wishes from the Poly beach.:rotfl: It sounds like you had a great night, Lisa!! Can't wait for more.

What a great update! The picture of all of you guys is so cute. We stayed at the Polynesian several times but never went to the luau. It does like it's a lot of fun though!

I'm like you, I'll take that extra $2,000.00 and do something else with it. That being said, if I had an extra $2,000.00 in my budget, I'd be booking a stay at the Polynesian.

John's daddy is color blind and John's mother has to pick his clothes out for him too. We wouldn't want the preacher to be standing before his congregation in a suit that doesn't match.;)

I had to nudge Hunter just a little bit to get on stage but once he was there, he had a good time.

I thought the photopass picture came out good. We haven't had family photos taken since Lacey moved to Georgia.

I can see how some people might think the luau storyline is cheesy but, honestly, it's not any cheesier than the Hoop Dee Doo Review storyline. I think your boys would have a great time at the luau.

Watching Wishes was the perfect ending to our day.

My dream is to stay at the Polynesian. It was so pretty and looked so peaceful. In your honest opinion, is it worth the extra money?

Hope your day is a good one, Lisa. The rain just started here a few minutes ago!! Will be around for the entire week, now!

I priced the Poly again over the weekend--the week we plan to go, along with the AKL! that is my dream resort; just wish it were on a better transportation line. I figure both would add about about $1000 to the total of the mod maybe about $700 or so for AKL or contemporary and the $1000 for the poly. Just too much, I think...I could use that money for so many other things and just visit those beautiful deluxe resorts :lmao:
Maybe in 2015 for our next return trip and it is only the three of us we will be able to try...:rolleyes1

have a great rest of the afternoon!! cooler temps should be coming your way soon!! lucky you!!
:wave2:Connie

Hey Connie,

It's been raining here all day long. The high was supposed to be 71. We may have hit it. Not sure. School is out today for a teacher's conference. John was rained out on a job he was trying to finish up. Too bad, I can't get rained out. I would love to be at home today just chilling with my boys. Oh well.

I have priced out the deluxe resorts so many times it's pitiful. I guess I am hanging on to a pipe dream that the deluxe rates are going to drop drastically and I can book a stay at one of them. I just can't help myself though. A girl can dream can't she?

Until the day the rates drop or I win the lottery or a long lost relative leaves me wads of cash, I'll just stick with the CBR.

Lisa

Okay, Lisa, I'm caught up again. Good thing I was only about 7 pages behind this time!

Loved the FOTLK pictures. I took a bunch too. ;)

The Luau looked like fun. We've never done any of the dinner shows. I keep thinking we're going to do HDDR, but then never get it worked in. One of these days I guess...

Glad that your drama has died down some. Sorry about the deal with your niece. What can you do, right? I think you've been perfectly reasonable.

Can't wait to read your next installment. June seems like a long time away, doesn't it?

Before I post pictures we took with the Tiki God, I thought I'd give you an update on my Mama and my brother-in-law.

Mama went to the surgeon who told her that everything looked like it was healing correctly and that her drooping mouth would eventually get better. He told her her eye had nothing whatsoever to do with the surgery. He told her to go see her GP to talk about the dizziness.

She saw the nurse practitioner at the GP's office. She told Mama that she thought she had had a stroke and asked if the surgeon had prescribed physical therapy. Mama told her no. The nurse practitioner thought she heard a little rattle in Mama's chest and Mama has had a snotty nose (you can so tell I have a kid otherwise I would say she had a stuffed up nose:rotfl:) lately so she prescribed some meds. She also told Mama to go see her eye doctor about her eye.

So, she scheduled an appointment with the eye doctor who asked her if she had had a stroke. Mama told them no. Then, they looked back at her chart and saw that her eye had always drooped and even had notes that said they could get her eye lift surgery covered by insurance.

By this time, I am thoroughly pissed off. Why? Because her surgeon and his nurse (who were both in the operating room and back and forth in the recovery room) had already told her that this wasn't a stroke. It was from the compression on the nerve in her neck. They had also told her that this was normal and would take a while for her to get over it. Now, the nurse practitioner and the eye doctor (both of which had not looked at her recent hospital records) are telling her that she had a stroke. Excuse me....are either of you a neurosurgeon? NOPE! Mama was all worked up thinking she had had a stroke and nobody had told her or that she was misdiagnosed and should have been prescribed physical therapy. I was actually getting quite worried because Mama was getting really depressed.

Last week, my aunt (my mother's sis-in-law) had the same surgery as Mama. Mama called her to check on her. Guess what! She has the EXACT same symptoms/after-effects as Mama. Yep, drooping mouth, numb chin, drooping eye and bobbing arm. Hum.....did her doctor say she had had a stroke. No. These are just things that my aunt will get over with the passing of time.

Now, Mama is feeling lots better and is more encouraged than ever. She sees that it is not just her that has had these things happen to her. They have made a pact to call each other every other day and compare notes. Praise be to God for giving her somebody to talk to. :littleangel:

On the subject of my brother-in-law, he's home from the hospital. They released him Friday.

My mother had to call my sister every evening to see how things were going. This was while they were still at the hospital. I've told ya'll that my brother-in-law has always been a horse's but(t) (didn't want to get bleeped). I know that he loves my sister and his kids but he's always been.....ornery. It's hard to describe. They have had to tip-toe around him as long as I can remember.

Anyway, when Mama would call my sister, she had these stupid convert type conversations. Like.....his blood pressure is better, he walked some today, the "other" is better too. The man knows he is an *** (before AND after this stroke), why don't they just say "his temperament is better today". What? Do they think he doesn't know he's a fartface? Or, why didn't my sister just step out of the room and go down the hall to talk? Lord have mercy, I couldn't live like that.

All of the roundabout talk would get Mama upset because she would assume the worse. I've tried my best to keep Mama calm but it's pretty hard to do when I have such a strong opinion on the whole thing. My opinion? Still the same...they can call me when they need me or when they want me to know something.

Okay, now that I've provided this really long family health issue update, I'll move on to more fun things.....pictures of the Tiki God. Coming up real soon!

You'll recall that after the luau, we watched part of Wishes from the resort but didn't watch the entire show. We decided that John and Lacey were in need of a bathroom stop much more than we "needed" to see Wishes. So, we walked over to the main Polynesian building in our search for the bathroom.

Hunter and I walked around while we waited on them. We found a huge Tiki God in the lobby and decided to take pictures. There was a family in front of us so we had to wait. I asked if they wanted me to take a picture of the entire family together and they were really happy for me to do it. It was a really cute picture. One person in the group was eyesight impaired and had a seeing eye dog. They had the dog in the picture with them.

After I took their picture, it was our turn.

I have no idea what Hunter was doing in this picture. It looks like he is driving an imaginary car.:confused3

Hunter took one of me:

100_2587.jpg

Pictures taken, we wandered around a bit and decided to look around in a nearby store:

100_2585.jpg

Hunter set his sights on a ukelele (I know I probably totally flubbed the spelling but how often do you type ukelele?) and it was only $20.00. I found John a neat Polynesian resort shirt. We checked out and went outside and found a seat on a nearby bench. Where in the world were the bathrooms in this place? Timbuktu? Finally, John and Lacey showed up. We told them about the Tiki God pictures and, of course, we made them get their picture taken too.

We had to wait again because there was another family in front of us. They had two little girls who were complete and utter Divas with a capital D. They weren't exactly rude/mean but you could tell they got their way a lot and if they didn't they pitched a total fit. After about 10 minutes of waiting, their Mama finally drug them away from the Tiki God so we could take pictures.

Hi Lisa! Great pics of the Luau! I have always wanted to try it but I am a VERY picky eater & the food didn't sound too good to me! LOL! While on our honeymoon we did eat at O'Hanna & I didn't like anything! :confused3 Like I said, I'm VERY picky!! Can't wait to read more!!!
