We just sailed on the 3/10-3/13 Dream. It was me, dd 6, and dd's godfather. It was my 4th Disney cruise and their 3rd. After reading all of this crazy negative stuff about the Dream I was honestly worried and NONE of my concerns were warranted, thank goodness! We were on a sold out cruise. We arrived via towncar at the port at 10 and had to wait behind about 20 people before they started letting people inside. That took no more than 15 minutes. No line at security and we were the next in line at the CC check in line. Got boarding group 3. The funny thing is that our tablemates were the first people to check in other than the b2b's and they got boarding group 5, so it seems like the numbers may be random now. Whole process took about 20 minutes. The only long line was for kid's club registration.

We ate at Enchanted Garden for lunch. I'd recommend Cabanas as I didn't feel like this restaurant was set up well for a buffet making the lines bad and it was difficult to reach your table again. One of my only real "what were they thinking" moments. Not a big deal, though. Also, I had read that if you asked the server that you could get kids food in there since it isn't available on the buffet. I asked several servers and they said no, that the buffet food was all that was available for kids. So, you may want to consider that if you have picky eaters.

The rest of the cruise was GREAT! The only line we encountered was Aquaduck and that wasn't too bad and we expected it. The pools weren't bad at all (although I'm sure that would change on a sea day) and we never saw more than 2 or 3 people at the adult pool the entire cruise! We felt horrible for the bartender! :( I will admit that the elevators opening into the adult pool area was a total Disney fail. We stayed one floor down from that area and regularly used the stairs to access deck 11. I must admit that I felt bad walking my dd through there. She's well behaved and I was quick about it, but still odd.

The best fireworks viewing is on deck 13 at Currents. There's both a family and adult side. That's close to where they shoot them off. Nothing like being able to sit back and watch them. Currents also has the best ocean views on the ship IMO. Not to be missed!

We were in room 10504. It was below the spa I believe. No issues with noise ever. About 3 doors down from the bridge, so it was super cool to watch Captain Henry and his crew :) The overhang was no big deal. In fact we liked it. It seemed to help with the wind (and we had some pretty bad wind) and it seems that it would be great on rainy days. Had a nice little "cozy" feel to it.

Dining was great too in the main restaurants! We didn't have our server on the last night because he came down with the flu, so the head server took his place. Dinner took a little longer the first night, but was much faster subsequent nights. We wound up linking our ressies with two other DIS families (each a party of 3), and I'm so glad that we did! We had a blast! If you're worried about who you might get paired up with at dinner, I would highly suggest checking your cruise meet thread and seeing if others would be interested in doing this.

One thing that I didn't care for as much on the Dream (this has nothing to do with crowds, etc) was the kid's club. I think it's a super cool area, but when you go to find your child, it could easily take you several minutes to do so. The Oceaneer's club and lab are now connected and kids can freely go back and forth between the two. The counselors would let me know what area that she was in, but I found out that this is a generalization and can actually mean one of many areas. The problem is that now there are so MANY different little rooms within the clubs that it can seem to take forever to find your child :lmao: She had a blast in there and they always seemed to be doing something. Also, the counselors were great. They apparently no longer do the program on the last night any longer :( which I'm sure is because of the additional kids. I miss that.

Thanks for your trip report!
Nice to hear a positive one. So glad you had a nice trip.

To get up to Currents, do you have to take stairs? or can it be reached by elevator?

What a terrific post. Loved your fair outlook on everything and all the details. Thank you so much. After reading so much on previous threads about the horrific wait outside, I must admit I was worried about the towncar getting us there at 10:30 -- but not now. Thanks again -- makes me even more excited to go in May!

Thank you for your review! :thumbsup2

We are sailing on the May 29th Dream and I can honestly say I was worried up until I read your review. Thanks!

Looking forward to 2 stops at CC with my hubby and my parents! :-)

agree there is nothing to "worry" about!

nice seeing you on CC

the cruise was WAY TOO SHORT!

we kept really busy and I got a lot of exercise in 3 days ... hoofing it on the stairs, fitness center fri morning, nature walk / kayak on CC in am followed by biking after a quick lunch ... made the meals less guilt ridden :)

I believe that there are some that are located right behind Currents. I never took them, so I can't say for sure.

Love to hear positive comments on the Dream, I am setting all my worries aside for our Nov. cruise. Being our first DCL cruise, I figure we will have fun no matter what :)

Thanks for taking the time to report on your great experience! :) The kids food at boarding day buffet seems to depend on the servers. We have had some who get chicken strips without a problem and others who say it is not possible. By now DS knows that when we head to PC for lunch he goes up to deck 9 to get a double order of strips to bring back to PC. Last time our server found out that he had done that he said he could have gotten them for him. It's hit or miss.

It was great seeing y'all too! I meant to make it to the gym, but didn't ;) Fortunately, took the stairs most of the time, so that counts! :thumbsup2

Did they tell you to go to EG for lunch or did they give you a choice between that and Cabanas?

They told us EG, but of course we were one of the first on board, so that's all that was available. EG opens at 11:45, and Cabanas at 12 (at least those were the times on our cruise). In the future, I'd probably just ask if I could wait a few minutes and go to Cabanas.

I thought cabanas was great for embarkation lunch

There are good 'healthy' options at both cabanas (loved the seafood selection) and flo's (wraps/salads) if interested

Can you give me your thoughts on the nature walk/kayak on CC? My DH and I are sailing on our first Disney cruise on the Dream in May and thought we would try this excursion. Neither of us have ever kayaked before. He is in good shape and I have been working out 3 days a week at the gym since January to try to get in reasonable shape. Thanks -- Suzanne

Whew! We are going March 2012 and I was beginning to have buyers remorse for our first cruise!
How was the pool and ocean temps? We've never gone south so early in the year, I'm worried it will be too cool.

The walk / kayak was fun. We met at 930 by Marges Barges just off the ship. We took 2 trams to serenity bay. My wife, I love her sense of humor says, (think jeff goldblum in jurassic park), "there IS going to be some WALKING on this WALKING tour, right?" So we get life vests and start a 45 min walking tour with frequent stops where the tour guide pointed out horticultural points of interest and historical nuggets about the island and regions history. Not strenuous at all. We then reached the kayaks and were in them about an hour. We followed the coast, went through mangroves, then the challenging part was coming back against the wind and current out to a buoy then back to the beach where we started. It was a good upper body workout and a lot of fun - first time in a kayak actually. We then walked back to where the serenity bay bikes are which was a quicker walk (20 min) without the stops.

Thank you for your great review. We will be in 10502 on our September cruise and hoped to be able to view the bridge in action. Glad to hear noise was not an issue. Anything else you can add about the room, views from the veranda, and easiest way around the ship from deck 10 will be appreciated. Glad you enjoyed the cruise and for making us even more eager to experience the Dream.:surfweb:
