Chris and I always seem to have this arguement. He's a die-hard Stones fan and I simply adore the Beatles. Which do you think is the better band?

Definitely the Stones! Not that Im really a major fan or anything, but I cant stand the Beatles(sorry;) ).
I just noticed your "other" option. I voted for that. My write in is Aerosmith.

Tough vote, Des, but I did go with the Stones, 'the best rock and roll band ever'. For a down and dirty rock band, hard to top the Stones, for pure creativity, culture-changing, and longevity of more songs, hard to top the Beatles. Your choice is between the two best ever, IMO.

I voted Stones too. But I would also choose Areosmith over them in a heartbeat!

Beatles!!!

STONES!!!

They didn't earn the title of "Best Rock and Roll Band Ever" for nothing!! Besides, they are still very much around and still playing together. Sadly, the Beatles are not (and haven't been for a long, long time . . .)

Beatles here.

I prefer the Stones over most "new music" mind you. But I don't think there is really any comparison. It's easy to keep a rock band going for 40+ years if you only have to remember 3 chords.

I vote for Sir Elton John-he is the JS Bach of his time.

Definitely, along with Elvis, the two most three important musical influences of our times. . .

I love the Beatles for their willingness and abililty they showed in taking rock from catchy little tunes and light-weight themes to a medium that could actually mean something and force you to actually think about it to fully appreciate it. .

I love the Stones because of the way they never pretended to be anything but what they were; a down and dirty, raunchy rock and roll band that didn't just live the life; they invented it and celebrated it. . .

The White Album and Exile on Main Street are two of the best albums ever made. . . but Exile is just a touch better, and the Stones during that period when Mick Taylor was in the band we're the Greatest Rock and Roll Band ever- I voted Stones. . . :) :)

John Lennon: The Gustav Mahler of his time
Paul McCartney: The Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart of his time
James Taylor: The Robert Schumann of his time

Elton John is probably more the Geoacchino Rossini or his time or the Giacomo Puccini or his time. Or better yet, the Giuseppi Verdi of his time (the composer of the Original Aida.

:D

I'm liking that Paul as Mozart reference. You probably know that an early Lennon-McCartney compostion (Not A Second Time) was compared to Mahler's Song of the Earth.
