Hi!

I have been sitting reading the Trip reports and a common factor I have seen in most of them is someone getting ill. So I wanted to ask:

1. Is there anything I should avoid eating or drinking in Florida?
2. Is there anything I can take that would help prevent me getting ill?

I also wanted to double check this because my sister will be about 6 months pregnant when she is out there.

Thanks muchly!!!!

It's probably not as widespread as it may appear.

On our first trip DS & I both had a day where we were feeling headachy & sick at the end of our first week. With hindsight I think we had overdone it a bit. No rest days, early mornings & late nights. I suspect a bit of dehydration too.

2nd trip was fine - no probs at all.

3rd trip - we all got colds one by one. Not too bad - just used paracetamol & plenty of tissues.

We have had absolutely no problems with food or drink and don't know of anyone else who has. You might want to drink bottled water as the tap water tastes quite chlorinated, though.

I would suggest you don't let your sister get too tired - going round the parks is tiring. And make sure she drinks plenty of fluids.

Weve never had any problems whilst in florida, only caught colds on the flight over, but other than that i dont think its anything to do with what you eat or drink, I think its just pot luck!

I returned last month from my 9th trip to Florida (total of some 16 weeks) and this was the first time any of us has been ill over there as far as I can remember.

This trip, a few days before we came home, DH and I both came down with some kind of stomach bug, but DDs escaped. I can't put it down to anything we both ate or drank that DDs didn't, so consider it just 'bad luck'.

Fingers crossed you'll all be fine :)

Heat and sun stroke are probably your worst enemy. With everything else, you stand the same chance of catching something at home.

One of our DDs was very sick on our trip in Oct but it lasted for less than a day. She was sick in the morning through to the afternoon but by the evening she was fine. The only thing I can put it down to was maybe too much sun the day before (typical 4 year old - kept taking her hat off!).

Hi

I have been there 3 times and this will be my 4th trip leaving this Saturday. Well we have had no problems with food or drink. Only problem we have is dehydration. I recommend that your sister drinks at least 2 litre's of water a day. This was recommended to me when I was carrying twins over that heat wave we had last year.

The water tates different, but doesnt everywhere else in the UK taste different. Just check to make sure all food is piping hot and she gets lots and lots of water into her system. Over there it is so hot and humid it's amazing how much you can sweat.

Good luck
Michelle

wow - out there carrying twins!!! you must be glutton for punishment!!!
Can I just how far into the pregnany you were when you went out there?
My sis has just found out she is preganant (will be about 22 weeks when out there) and is worried about whether they will let her fly and travel insurance etc..

Thanks
