Stolen wallet & Disney gift card

Not sure if this is even the right place to post this, but it's kind of budget related so I thought I'd start here.

My wallet went MIA this week... at first I thought I had lost it but after an extensively thorough search of the few places it could have gone, I'm 97% certain it was taken from my desk drawer at work. My fault for not locking it :/

Anyways, I'm in the long process of replacing everything that was in there. One of the few things that I've yet to get taken care of is a Disney gift card, which had some $$ still on it.

I do not have the number. However, it was used to book a room for next week, so Disney should have it "somewhere" in the system. I'm hoping they can extract the number and apply it as a room credit or... something. I dunno.

Has anyone done anything like this, or have an idea of what department to call? I understand completely that the GC are "like cash" and accept that it may be lost (especially without the number.) But I also feel like it's worth an effort, to at least TRY, kwim?

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas! :)

Any chance you still have the receipt for the gift card?

Sorry you lost the wallet. It's not a good feeling when you get robbed.

I'm a pack rat/keeper of things, so it's likely I still have it... but 97% chance it's in the wallet. :/

It's a good idea though. I'll look through my purse tonight and see if I can find it.

Thanks for the condolences. I'm not even sure that's what happened, but it's gone without a trace so I've run out of options.

Does your work have security cameras? It seems like only someone who knows that your wallet is kept in that drawer would look to see if it's locked. If you do have security systems, I would ask to have to tapes reviewed. I've never heard of anyone being turned down for reviewing of tapes and if they do find out who took it, If thats the case, could be held responsible. Also, have you called any gas stations, restaurants, friends you have rode with lately? I once put my wallet down and the store held it for over a month when I realized that's where it could be, even though most of it had be replaced. Good luck!

If you have the receipt of the gift card bought it will make things easy. If not, you can still get help if you have any receipt that has a timestamp noted on it.

This happened to me once and I was able to get the lost money back. I don't have the phone # that I used, but I believe it was the same dept that manages the gift cards. I think everything has to be done in writing.

I had a card that was in a stolen wallet. We had the number, receipt and a police report. We were told we were out of luck. They won't replace stolen cards. Part of me thinks we just had a very lazy customer service rep.

The store can not do anything about it. But someone in the corporate offices can. They would have to have authority to do it (very few people would have this authority since they would have access to all gift cards.

Well, that is silly. Why didn't the store just turn it over to the police? They would have returned it to you immediately. This is what dh did when he found a wallet. It had very little cash in it but having lost his own wallet in the past understands what a pain it is to replace everything in it.

Some things are sentimental and irreplaceable like photos of loved ones. My bff had her wallet stolen right out of her purse while grocery shopping and turning her back on it to get something from a freezer. Of all the things in her wallet she was upset about losing, her parents wedding picture was the hardest loss. They died when she was 6 & 16.

OP, I'm sorry you're going through this. I wish I had a good tip for you to find out the gc #. By chance do you have the Disney GC app on your phone? At least it would tell you what is still on it. I'm looking at my WL bill from last week that we applied a small remainder GC toward our room account. It lists the entire GC # except the last 4 digits are these ****. I hope Disney can help you.

:sad2:Yes, you did.

I'm reading the back of a card bought recently and part of the fine print says:
"Lost, stolen or damaged gift cards cannot be replaced without required proof of purchase and complete gift card number." Of course this is no help once you lose the card and don't have it in your possession to read. Still the rep should have been able to tell you this.
I wonder if my receipt lists the entire number. I would never think to take a cell pic or make copies but just like Disney tickets (pre FP+/MB days), it's much easier to replace them if you have that.

I work for a corportation retail store and we keep all lost items in the safe for 60 days. I have no knowledge of an item ever being turned over to the police. Im sure if I had reported the wallet stolen, they would have returned it if turned into them but I assumed I had laid it down. I did the same at world of disney and an employee thought it was actual merch they were selling and placed it in the back room to be restocked

Ditto where I work. We lock up valuables in a safe. We don't call the police, we could have to call them every day. And most people have an idea of where they last had their wallet/credit card/ID.

Same with anywhere I have worked. We would hold it for a specific number of days in our safe because people are most likely to call/come in first when they lose things. I don't know what happened after that number of days because we never had any left that long.

I didn't ask at the store, this was through the disney gift card line.

I would call back and try again. If you are told again they can't do it, then you may have to accept that. As the OP stated before, gift cards are treated like cash.

You lost your gift card and you come here for advice before calling Disney? get thee to a phone pronto!

This was in 2013. I no longer have the receipt or number. It's not a big deal, it was only $25.

I take a picture or a copy of the backs of my gift cards and annual passes so they are easier to replace.
