What food items do you bring with you (or buy at the store once you get there)? Last time (our first time!) at the Fort, we were on the dining plan, but decided that next time we would skip the dining plan and use the cabin BBQ, etc. No hard-core cooking or crock pots or anything like that (we'll only be there for 2 nights). I appreciate any and all ideas!

I make up a menu for the trip, each day each meal. Then I write up my grocery list. Add snacks, lunch meat, cheese and bread, and drinks.

Great idea. For two nights, why not just stop at the store for charcoal, lighter fluid, and all the meat and fixin's you'd normally use for a bbq....hot dogs, brats, burgers, chicken breast, etc and then add some tubs of sides, like tater salad / cole slaw and then get stuff to put on yer meat, like cheese, onions, ketcup, mustard, etc. Your sure to fill your lunches and dinners with enough stuff for 2.5 days.

Make sure you buy all of your stuff at a store before you get there and not at the trading post you will save a lot of money

If you're driving down, you could make meals before you leave. That way, you wouldn't have to cook at all. You could just heat food in the microwave.

we will be tent camping and have a small plug in cooler. What does the trading post on site have? I dont mind paying extra to know that the hamburger I buy is fresh and didnt possibly spoil. Other stuff we could certainly bring with us.

We drive down and stop at the super walmart. We stock up on things like snack foods and breakfast. We typically make our own breakfast - bagels, cereal, coffee, OJ, etc... Then we do pick up a few things like cheese sticks and goldfish for evening snacks - but that is it. Easy stuff cause we go out for lunch and dinner - it's my vacation too... so i'm not cooking but i don't mind getting breakfast together for everyone. We love the cabins. Then we always buy a ton of waters and use a cooler bag for the park.

We stop at Walmart on our way in also.
We stock up on wine, some breakfast food and snacks. Oh, did I mention wine?
We typically cook 1 dinner at our site. I bring these wonderful filets from home. Somehow they always taste even better there.
I always reserve Cape May Cafe and Cap'n Jacks in advance for a dinner. And we just wing the rest.
I want to enjoy the Fort and have some wonderful meals out too!
Oh, and I did I tell you that I stock up on wine?

Be sure to bring your grill tools, matches, and aluminum foil. Also keep in mind spices.
