Stocking stuffers

Last year I got tons of ideas from everyone here for stocking stuffers for my family. (I heard the flying monkey hit the wall just today). I need some new ideas! What's fun and/or cheap out there this year? TIA!

For the over 18 crowd - holiday lottery tickets are a big winner. For the support people where I work, I take 6" stockings (purchased at after Christmas sales the year before for like .50 each) put a couple of tickets and candies in there - small gift but shows I appreciate them. Trial size products are another good one for guys and girls - lotion, chapstick, etc... That is one of the things I pick up at Bed, Bath & Beyond on Black Friday when they have the 20% off your entire purchase coupon. For a 12 or 13 year old boy - that is a tough one. Maybe a small gift card that one of his favorite fast food places, or a movie gift card?

You can spend a fortune and not make a dent in the stocking with things like that! With that in mind here are some pretty generic things that I am putting in DD14s stocking this year:

LOL It's actually about 50% bigger than normal ones - it's 28 inches long!

Because we travel to my mother's for Christmas, Santa leaves the under-the-tree gifts at our house the weekend before we leave. Christmas day my daughter only gets her stocking - so I try to make it a really good one! I buy stuff throughout the year on sale so most of it I picked up at really good prices.

Blind packs are fun - I like the Lego minifigures but there are tons of options depending on age, my DD is getting My Little Pony, my older son is getting little Minecraft blind boxes. Character band-aids are a hit with my little kids since I usually don't buy them. Pez. The teeny Tsum Tsum plush at Disney Store are just adorable and perfect to peek out of a stocking. We usually hang the yearly ornaments off the stockings.

Depending on the age, maybe some crayons or markers. Coloring books.

How about bags of m&m's or something like that.

Favorite type of pens or pencils

make up a small coupon book for things like making their bed one day, or baking their desert or dinner

Baseball cap or shirt for a favorite sports team.

Stockings were so much easier when they were younger! I used to get my boys candy, small toys like Hot Wheel cars, little wind-up toys, small stuffed animals, etc. Now that they're teens, I still get them their favorite candy. This year I'm throwing in some slipper socks so they can stop walking around barefoot on weekend mornings (they have slippers but don't seem to like wearing them). I might also put in $10 McDonald's cards, and maybe ice cream cards as well. I also need to pick up some bunny treats...for the bunnies' stockings!

Check out both the Container Store and Restoration Hardware. I usually find both interesting stocking stuffer gifts and smaller gifts that you would never find anywhere else and that you never knew you needed. Both places have decent prices on them as well.

Your DS is in between my two in age. My older one is into music so earbuds and an iTunes card is going in his stocking. He also runs, and younger DS is out on his bike a lot so I got them each a clip on safety light. I also always give them new toothbrushes. Oh, and this year I ordered swim goggles, which come in a large-ish box, so that will take up space. Plus the usual candy.

I bought a few things from Daily Steals. I got a bike 'pedometer' and a bike phone holder for my DH's stocking. I got two bottle humidifiers for my DS and DD's stockings too.
I also bought a phone case on sale for one of them. I'm still keeping my eye out for stuff.

Google Cord Buddy. I saw it in a catalog on the stocking stuffer page. I bought one for myself on Amazon (prime) and love it, so I got a bunch for my nieces and nephews and DH. My DS's are too young to need it, but its a good item for the preteen and older crowd!

In DS's stocking we always put one of those chocolate oranges, those round coke bottles that only show up this time of year, and those marble sodas that you find in the Japan pavilion. I find the Japanese sodas at World Market here in town.

Stocking stuffers are a big deal at our house. Like one of the PP, our stockings are huge, and we still tend to have things that don't fit. My favorite finds for this year (so far):

- Prepackaged Dill Pickle
- Narwhal Horn Mints (I have a running joke with DH about whether narwhals are real)
- Emergency underpants (just add water!)
- Small stuffed Doug and Kevin (from Up, which DD refers to as the "Dog and Birdie" movie)
- Split car charger for phones

My go-to stores are Target, 5 Below, World market, and any "dollar" related place.

One year I did all gift cards for the big kids, but I bought a tiny stocking big enough to hold only gift cards and bought a bunch of lower value cards. 5-10.00. They loved it. Little guys stocking is huge so just about anything will fit. I tend to put practical things in stockings. The "good" versions of stuff we buy normally in a cheaper version. Things like body wash, toothpaste, etc. This year the big guys are getting just one, much more expensive gift, so going to try to make the stocking a bit more special.

I usually fill stockings with stuff we will need anyway. Toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, maybe a fancy body wash or bubble bath, etc.

It used to be a tradition, once I was passed believing in Santa age, for my mom and I to go to the drug store and pick stocking stuff for one another.
