No it wasn't on the monorail or through the phone lines--this time it was the ride, Stitch's Great Escape. I was reading on another board--GASP--and saw that in the middle of a show, Stitch :stitch: exploded and got hydraulic fluid all over the audience. This may be somewhere else on this board, but I didn't see it.

As if the monorail & wake up calls weren't enough to make you dislike Stitch--i'm pretty sure this would be the nail on the coffin.

Go here to read more--http://www.screamscape.com/html/wdw_-_magic_kingdom.htm

Was about to bring it over here. You beat me to it. :) Hard to post news on 20 different boards quickly.

Just wondering if anyone can confirm some recent Stitch downtime? I'm itching for an official source or some backup on this. *grins evilly and fingers Mic 1*

I have to give you all the credit--I have no idea what board I saw it on, I ended up there randomly and saw your headline.. I thought it was from a while back though, and so I read it..How did you hear about this??

The article says that Stitch basically exploded in the middle of the show and hydraulic fluid went everywhere--including the audience. Straight from the website-- "Hydraulic fluid is said to burn and irritate bare skin on contact, so the whole theater full of people had to be taken backstage to be cleaned up, given all new clothing and apparently comped them to infinity and beyond to keep the occurrence quiet."

That's just it, that theater seats what, 60-90 people? More? I haven't riden it since 1998 so I am just guessing. regardless I'd think that if that many people got even mildly injured SOMEONE would have said "no, a bath and clothes are not enough, I want my lawyer!" and word would have gotten out.

I was in a chat room from another board when a member there was talking about it.

Not going int odetail, but when an incodent like this happens, DIsney will pay off the involved guest one way or another. The guesdt are then made to sign a form sayign they will remain silent. If they talk publicly about the incodent, they will be sued.

Read in this book.

• RUMOR ALERT • RUMOR ALERT • RUMOR ALERT •

Any time I read anything like last part of that last line in an "article" it sets off alarm bells to me that this is an amateur writer and a poor one at that.

Disney would not "Pay-off" a room full of guests to "keep them quiet" about an incident in the park. Even if they TRIED, there would be those telling relatives and friends who would LEAK the whole thing and the "seal" would be broken and the money spent for nothing.

And can you imagine a corporation trying to "SUE" someone for telling the TRUTH about a potentially dangerous incident?
I'm sure THAT would be an easy suit to win in front of a jury or judge.
(Most states have "whistle-blower" laws that even specially PROTECT those who "Spill the beans" about these things.)

This is the stuff of a classic "urban legend". It sounds good... until you examine it.

I don't say the incident did not happen... Stitch COULD have, in fact, sprayed hydro-fluid... but the incident WILL be widely published if it is true.

ITA!! :thumbsup2

But my goodness what an answer to prayers if he did explode.... :lmao:

It also doesn't help that Florida laws don't demand that if something goes wrong with a ride and people get injured or die, that it's reported. Most states carry this law, but, at least as of 2 years ago when I was doing research Florida didn't require the report to be made. So if it did happen to a handful of people and they were happy with a payoff, it would be easy enough to keep the incident under wraps, as it's not required to be reported.

it is VERY hard to believe that this happened and they were all sworn to secrecy..secret or not, it would have ended up on the DIS before now!

The point is WHY would there BE a "payoff"?
It would be much WORSE for Disney if it was "leaked" that they ATTEMPTED to pay for the silence.

This is not 1955. The Disney Corp. has had a bit of "experience" in these matters.

Whether its required to be reported or not has no bearing on the terrible PR that would come from the disclosure that Disney was PAYING guests to NOT TALK about accidents in the park.

How is it being perceived by the guests? Is it being presented as "don't talk about this and we'll give you lots of cash!" or is it being presented as "Oh my god we're so sorry let us make this up to you!"

I personally don't believe they'd go out of their way to pay someone off to keep things silent, my point was that if they wanted to, it'd not be extremely hard to do.
