Jim Hill reports on the rumor about Stitch taking over the Alien Encounter attraction at WDW.

www.jimhillmedia.com

I like the idea of updating Alien Encounter. With the present scare factor, and the fact that Tomorrowland seems to be slowly moving toward a family friendly area, the current attraction as set up just does not seem to fit.

I've always liked the attraction, but I bet my family would like it even more if it were Stitch-i-fied.

A lot of people don't like this idea, but I do. I think a Stitch theme gives more Disney continuity to the attraction.

The only reason why I DON'T like the idea is because I think that Disney has the potential to create a great Lilo and Stitch ride on its own. I think that by adding Stitch to ailen encounter they are cutting costs and skimping on attractions. As much as I love Lilo and Stitch, I think that Alien Encounter is a strong ride by itself with no need of a rehab. I just view it as Disney cutting costs.

The Stitch character is ok but doesn't deserve its own attraction. The movie is quite forgetable. I hope the new show fails. There is nothing wrong with Alien Encounter and I personally have a big beef with all of the stupid parents who can't read and look at warning signs and take their little kids on and they get scared. And then they have the nerve to complain about it. This absolutely burns me up. And I will definately let my voice be heard on this trip. And hopefully I'll get to tell some whiney parents how stupid they are. Sorry if I sound a little too strong but it is a shame that the best show on Disney property (Fantasmic doesnt count :D ) has to be changed because of moron parents. And it's probably those one time visitors that get to ruin it for all of us annual passholders. Long live Chairman Clench and XS Tech.

I agree with Princess Evil - I think that they could create a ride for lilo and stitch that is much better than the very limited show that is Alien Encounter - there is so little to that attraction - the preshow technology isn't very compelling, and after that the main attraction is basically a demonstration of how cool stereo sound is. I guess in the 1960s that demonstration of stereo might be cool - sounds dangerous and mr. lincoln are basically the same sort of thing, it is pretty weak. They should be able to do something new and exciting with lio and stitch, not old and boring and tired.

On the positive side, Lilo and Stitch should be able to tune up this yawner in tomorrowland. I'm going to add here another concern - that is the cartoonization of tomorrowland. With Buzz and with a potential Stitch, then a lot of tomorrowland is based on animated films, wich is fine, but I miss some of the wonder of TOMORROWLAND for the sake of tomorrowland, not for the sake of enjoying animated characters, if that makes any sense.

That said, I'm not ready to believe any of it. The whole tomorrowland thing is a bigger deal in disneyland than in wdw. In disneyalnd folks feel like tomorrowland is dead, because rocket rods didn't work out on the people mover track and now space mt. is closed. So that leaves you with a buzz light year kiddie show, star tours, and honey I shrunk the audience and autopia. Oh yeah, innoventions in the building that was carousel of progress, but that is pretty lame in disneyland. Couple this stale feel of disneyland with the upcoming 50th anniversary, and you can understand that people are excited to have some new attractions - this lack of attractions is what spurs the rumors of the subs opening back up. There are also rumors of a new Buzz ride going into the old circle vision ride - it isn't clear to me why they would put an omnimover ride in there (well there is a reason that is clear to me - to eat up crowds of people because a lot of people can fit on an omnimover). But it seems like they could use something like Tokyo Pooh or aquatopia if they are going from scratch. There is also the rumor in california of a stitch "overlay" on space mountain, or a stitch version of something like alien encounter, or a new circlevision film. These rumors change everyday it seems like, with someone hearing that something is on again, and someone else hearing that something is off again. I'm only bringing this up here to say why I'm not confident in any rumors about tomorrowland at wdw, because there is so much confusion about tomorrowland at disneyland - I don't think that they know what they want to do yet, frankly.

We like the Alien Encounter how it is. My kids love the scary? nature of the ride. Lilo & STitch can be made into it's own ride if Disney wants to add them to the ride list

I just hope they don't put in a Lilo and Stitch version of Rocket Rods.

Some parents do need serious attitude adjustment not the kids.

Their kids are screaming in line that they don't want to go on a ride because they are too frightened but they drag them on anyway:confused:

If the rehab does happen what will people say when Stitch is the one getting zapped in the transporter or when he breaks out in the chamber and instead of an alien roar, you hear," 'Ohana means family and family means no one is left behind"

Bingo! Bingo! Bingo! It will be impossible for the show to be thrilling if this takes place. Imagine using the same effects with Stitch instead of the alien. The complaint line will be backed up all the way from City Hall to the Castle.

I can't imagine they will fry Stitch like they do Skippy.
They probably will have him climbing all over the inside and licking the glass like he does while in court at the beginning of the movie. :)
Then they could have the glass break inside and have the alien Stitch touching legs, or the other aliens chasing him.
And don't forget Stitch is Experiment 626. (Did I get the number right? ;) ) There are 625 rejected aliens before him. ;) Maybe an evil cousin will be aboard and Stitch rescues everyone.

I'm betting that the Imagineers have more imagination than that...

But the current effects are wonderful. There is nothing wrong with them. I don't see how this attraction could possibly be improved upon.

I agree that the current attraction is good and that the effects are done well.
I just don't think this attraction fits in Tomorrowland. It feels out of place to me when juxtaposed with the surrounding attractions.
Cool. I managed to use the word "juxtaposed" in a sentance!

Well this is where we differ. I think this fits perfectly with Tomorrowland. And Buzz Lightyear doesn't fit in Tomorrowland along with the Raceway. I really do think the whole set up to AE fits into the Tomorrowland "city of the future" theme that they have sort of given up on.

I have never done AE, My hubby did once and I stayed off with the kids. My oldest is 12 now and says she wants to do AE with me on our next trip down. Parents who force their kids on are dumb and selfish! If they added Stitch they would have to turn it into a kiddie ride because all of the little ones, including mine, would want to ride!
