A strange question.

Steve Irwin was killed by a barb from a stingray.

My sister was wondering when you go into the stingray pool how is it safe?

Please do not laugh !!

The barbs have been removed on all stingrays at DC and the ones you can feed at Sea World.

They're like fingernails so they are filed down rather than removed. Stingrays are very safe even when they have 'em though, as long as they are used to people. The wild stingrays in Grand Cayman will even let you pick them up and take pictures with them on your head! The one that killed Steve was a different, larger species and was not at all used to people.
