Does the stingray excursion at Castaway Cay typically becomes available once on board? I’m interested it booking it, but there’s no availability for four. I typically do not book anything at Castaway Cay, but this will be our fourth time there and I’d like to try something new this time around.

There's never a guarantee, but you can check at the Port Adventures desk once onboard. Also keep checking back in the app, people may cancel as it gets closer to sailing and spots open up.

Just to let you know, this is one that I've seen get canceled for wind. We were able to do it one February cruise because we were the very first group, the ones after us all got canceled. (They use a ramp for feeding/petting the stingrays, and I guess it's not safe if it's windy). I saw it got canceled on our last October cruise when it was very windy. So for sure book it, but go in knowing that it might not happen. You'll get refunded immediately if it is canceled.

If you can book it now for even some of the people in your party, I would do it rather than wait until you get on board. I could only get a single spot for my daughter last August and nothing else ever came available. Even if you aren’t taking part in the excursion, you are able to go with the person(s) who are doing the feeding and watch them from the beach. They have a few chairs available to sit on. I went with my daughter and got some really good photos of her from the shoreline. If possible, try to book an early feeding as it was our experience that the stingrays were more active and interested in eating at the beginning of the excursion and less so as time went by.

Update: I was able to book the stingray encounter for all of us! There was only one spot on the 9 am encounter but 3 spots also became available as part of the extreme getaway package. Since we were planning on renting snorkel equipment and bikes anyway, getting the package worked out well for us. The encounter was one of the highlights of our trip! I know both the 9 am and 10 am encounters took place, but I did hear the crew members talking about possibly canceling later in the day due to the waves and wind, so if you want to make sure you do this, opt for one of the earlier time slots.

Our stingray encounter was cancelled yesterday (I assume due to waves). We were so bummed, we did it once and loved it. One of the largest stingrays there is named Panda and my daughter was sad not to get to feed her again. Will try for next time!

We must have been on the same cruise! We thought the water at Castaway was far colder than in the VI's. My kids had a great time making sand castles with some other random kids, though. They're thankfully way more social than I am.

Sadly, it was canceled yet again. The seas are pretty rough right now. Oh well, any day at Castaway Cay is a pretty good time.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen the sign list no cancelled excursions (Cabanas and Bikes don't count). Actually I can count on 1 finger.

Honestly I'd personally never plan an excursion on Castaway just because the odds are super high it's going to be cancelled.

We didn’t even get in the water at CC 😆 After the stingray encounter was cancelled, we decided to stay on the ship and she rode the AquaMouse 6 times with no wait. We got off after eating lunch on the ship (I hate the lunch on CC), and we just walked around/shopped/had a drink.

That sounds great! Frankly, I probably would have enjoyed that more, but the kids had a good time.

I wish there was a place on CC that you could buy a little better food, not just drinks. I don't hate the lunch, but it certainly looks a lot tastier than it actually is.
