For those of you who have done this I hope you can help me. We are interesting in the 2 hour sting ray city tour in the Grand Caymen, but what I want to know is how long is the boat ride there, and how long do you get to swim there? I don't want to waste my money if we don't get to stay long. We are thinking of booking with Capt. Marvins. I need to know A.S.A.P because our trip is next week adn they do have openings :cool1: :Pinkbounc :cheer2:  :bounce: :bounce:

I just finished the Disney Stingray City last week 3/15 and the boat ride was 30 - 40 minutes and we had about 30 minutes there. Believe me 30 minutes is enough time. We did the sandbar - I think there is something else where you snorkel but where we were there was no snorkel necessary - 3 feet of crystal clear water. they had snorkel equip but it really was not needed.

We did the 3 hour( 3 1/2?? I forget exactly) stingray tour with 3 stops-inculding stingray city. It was awesome. The 2 snorkling spots were really nice. With the boat ride being about 30 minutes it gave us enough time in the water to enjoy ourselves with the 3 hours one.

We just did this same cruise in Nov with Capt Marvin as well. It felt like about 30 min per stop. We were unable to snorkel at the 2nd stop (the coral reef) due to rough surf. The water was even very choppy at the stingray site but it felt like the crew gave us extra time here due to the fact we couldn't make the second snorkel site. It was one of the highlights of our cruise & we almost didn't get there. We were the first cruise to return to GC after the hurricane that hit there in Sept.

Aprilgail,

in your message, are you referring to the 2.5 hour Captain Marvin's tour?....if so, this is the one we just booked

Anyone got web/contact info for the Capt. Marvin Stingray tour?
I hear that Capt. Marvin is the best.

We went with Captain Marvins in May here is the web site: http://www.captainmarvins.com/

We had the best time we did the three stop tour with about a 1/2 hour at each stop. That was plenty of time and we still had time before and after to check out Grand Cayman.

The people working on the boat were also fun and very helpful. And the boat was way less crowded that the other boats we saw at Sting Ray City. So there was more one on one interaction with the crew. They also have someone filming the whole trip so if at the end you want to purchase the DVD you can (they were not pushy at all) We ended up buying it and we were glad we did :flower:

Hope that helps! Enjoy your trip!

Here's another vote Capt Marvins. We did the HALF DAY option, and it was the highlight of our trip........okay it took second place to none other than Castaway Cay!

We took the early excursion, and had absolutely no problems getting there in time. We even got lost following my DH's directions becuase he doesn't think I always know what I'm talking about........I showed him!

After doing the Disney excursion, I would try Capt Marvins if I go again.

The Disney boat was fine, there was shade and although the ride seemed long (about 40 min) we had more than enough time to swim with the stingrays. If you are under 5' 6'' consider bringing a foam life vest. The water is just deep enough to keep you treading water. I can imagine this would be difficult while trying to keep children above water. They provide inflatable horse collar flotation devices, but I find these cumbersome.

The stingrays are awesome and the water is warm. The additional snorkeling spots on Capt. Marvins sound interesting and I would like to try them.

So you went on the DCL Stingray City excursion?

No...I booked Capt. Marvins on our own. My daughter was only 4 and they wouldn't let her go on the Disney excursion...but if you book directly with catp. marvins they let her go so thats what we did. We got off the boat...took a short walk to Capt. Marvins store and then they took us in A/c bus to where the boat is.
