So you are still wondering if you should take your kids to either one of these events? You still think your little DSDDDMFDHDDHDHD whatever can handle it? Take a look at this scream cam from Howl O Scream in Tampa.
Now that is half of a house, and it's at the less intense and less themed HOS. Tamer than HHN. If you take them....you take your childrens therapy into your own hands...we warned you:goodvibes

It still depends on the child. I will be there tonight with my kids, it is their fifth HHN event. Timid children should probably not be brought, but if your child is over ten, and would be traumatized by this event, they probably need therapy anyways =)

I don't think anyone has ever advocated that HHN is for young kids, at least 10-12 and up, I'm thinking, its billed as pretty intense and generally for teens and up I'm pretty sure.

Actually that video looked almost more erotic than scary, is that what you were talking about?

This is not geared at the vets...you obviously know if your kids can handle it...this is geared towards the disney parents who want to "see the other side" and see a halloween event done by Universal and busch as the same as done by disney. Look in these boards, you will see many many many people asking and thinking about taking their kids. I took my son last year, dont know if I will this year. He's 11

I have always thought the contempt for parents who allowed their 'tweens to go to HHN (and events like it) was kind of silly (or maybe over-done). DS (who is now 14 and can't wait to go to next year's HHN -- we really can't go every year) has been to two HHN events (2008 and 2006), and they've both been delightfully fun experiences for him and for our family. Last year he met some of the people from this board and sat and had long conversations with them about the history of HHN while we ate at Finnegan's before during Stay N Scream. It was so much fun. It's never been anything traumatic for him, and our trips have provided a bunch of on-going family gags.

Anyway, just my two cents worth. I also teach 14 year olds every day. Each one is different, and I'm glad that most of their parents realize that. Certainly I wouldn't drag my DS to a princess breakfast at WDW. Now THAT would traumatize him!:rotfl:

We went to Howloscream tonight and I have never, ever seen that many little kids at HHN. I mean strollers and really young kids everywhere! Some of them did not look at all happy to be there either.

I guess it depends on your children. For example my son who is 8 has been begging to go and I'm not sure either way. I showed him the video with the scare zones and his first response was that is so fake the chainsaws have guards on them so they can't even hurt you. I know there is a big difference b/t watching a video and actually being there but if I my child picks up that the chainsaws have guards on them I'm not even sure how to respond to that. Every child is different and every child looks at things differently.

They actually have no chains, but still, smart kid! He has the right idea. Interestingly, at HoS they got so close with the chainsaws at one of the houses that we could literally feel the exhaust. I don't think I've ever had 'em that close at Universal. They were also using something to poke/brush at passing people's feet and ankles (didn't both me but hubby was hopping because he had shorts and sandals). I would say it's more "hands on" at HoS, not that they touch you, but there is more invasion of your space than I have encountered overall at HHN.
