Still not booked the car yet, cant find the perfect deal. And we go the week after next!!!!

We've usually opted for a mini van in recent years, but fancy a SUV this year.

Quite like the idea of picking our own car from a line too, which I believe happens now at Alamo and Dollar (that didn't happen 2 years ago the last time we went!)

Any good ideas, we leave in 13 days!!!!
TIA.

Virgin have just started doing Alamo and had a surprisingly good deal on offer when I booked recently

I am probably going with virgin atlantic too. 4 x 4 intermediate for £308 for 10 days which I thought was really good price.:thumbsup2

I am guessing thats including Platinum cover?
Virgin Atlantic have an offer on for free additional driver so you are paying £50 just for a tank of gas, shouldn't be so much paying there for a tank either at the desk prepay or take back full.
SAVE £££'S
Free Additional Driver if book before 27 Aug 2010!

Valid on our Fully Inclusive Package for rentals before 31 Dec 2010 No charge for 1 Additional Driver added when collect the car or check in online.

Also check Netflights, they have Ford Escape or similar for £233.20, less 5% Quidco = £221.54.

Have you had a look at hotwire.com - they sometimes have good last minute deals.

If not we usually find www.usrentacar.co.uk have the best prices.

I have used USrentacar a few times in past few years but they seem to have got a bit pricey with SUV's recently, smallest SUV they have is £297 for 10 days, compared to Netflights at £221 I just quoted above.

Quite fancy the bigger SUVs, but it's tricky to always determine what you're getting on some of the websites? At Dollar, are all the different SUVs split into different groups, like Mid Size, standard etc? Dont want to pay extra for a standard size SUV, only to find they are lined up with the smaller SUVs, which we could of paid for instead.... As you can choose your own vehicle with Dollar and Alamo now apparently.

We rented thru Dollar at Easter with the new system, SFAR Standard,SUV,Automatic,With A/C. We were allocated a car even though many others were allocated a row, I believe the larger SUV's and prestige collection are allocated car by car not a row.

As we had a 4 day delay I rented a 2nd car thru Alamo(Full size) we were given a row to choose from, I would say most of the line were intermediate cars, just the last 2 or 3 were full size.

Thats very interesting Wayne, as we could rent a durango, cant remember who with now, but it wasn't a dollar/alamo car, and the only reason I was being put off was the prospect of NOT being able to choose the car. If Dollar/Alamo are still allocating cars like that, probably due to they're being few in number maybe, it makes my resolve of going with them a lot weaker.... hmmmm????

Actually, think the cheapest Durango (ie 7 seater SUV) I can find is via Virgin Atlantic, 28 days - £968 and thats with Alamo anyway....
