Still no W2?

Dhs Employer would not budge!! Even when threatened with the irs[who they said would do nothing anyway] or a lawyer.

A self addressed stamped envelope and written signed request which HAD to include his ss# Or NO w-2.:scared1: !!!

We moved and haven't found the last pay stub. And could not, would not, drive 1200 miles to go it!! So, Dh had to send the letter.

We had filed our move with the Post Office so even a miss-addressed w-2 should have come to our new address! Even our magazines are arriving on time!! And I check with our last landlord and NO mail for us was delivered in January or February!!

Dh Did his due diligence, he informed them of the move, and gave the company his New Address, we had filed our new address with the Post Office, and our old landlord had our new address, the company said it had no been returned to them.

I think they were doing alot of butt covering!!

FWIW, DH never recieves his W-2 via mail. His company uses a payroll company (ADP I believe)...and the send all the W-2's directly to HR and she distributes them to the employees. This was also the case when I worked at a small buisness with my neighbor. We would recieve our W-2's directly from her just as we would recieve our paychecks from her.

I would THINK that since you don't work there anymore, it would automatically be mailed to you...whether from corprate itself or the payroll company they use. That being said, NO, your ex-co-workers do not have access to your tax information. I've never recieved a W-2 that wasn't in an envelope protecting my information. If it were me, I'd FIND a way to get to the office and pick up my W-2 (bus, friend, walk, whatever). The big boss sounds like a real jerk in this matter. And with it in your hand personally, it means no more fighting on the phone trying to get it mailed. And you can get your taxes filed.

Also, I was told that beacause not all the tax laws were finalzed, they pushed the date out that all tax documents had to be mailed out to tax payers by to Feb 15th.

Unfortunately, whoever told you that was incorrect. The date for W-2's was not changed.

I just called the 800 IRS number and my employer. He was giving me the "we aren't even required to give you one" spiel...but now says he is going to mail it :confused3. Is he really not required to give me one?

Sounds like your old boss is a real peach!

I am a Payroll and HR Manager who uses ADP. ADP only mails W-2s if the company requests it. Otherwise they are delivered to the company for distribution.

So the company is saying the original was already distributed and are making your DH ask for a duplicate. Asking for the ssn is a good idea. I have employees with the same names so the company wants to verify it is the correct.

I have had the situation you describe. A W-2 never makes it to the recipient but is not returned to me. However I send the replacement without requiring an envelope or a stamp.
