We are new to the EMH. Not sure if I understand this: everyone has to have a room key. Right. When you get to the park do they or dont they scan the key pass? If they scan it what does the scan show them? How many in a room, or just that the key is valid for this time and not an old key? Do small children in th party have to have a room key also? I have seen many, many different post about this. Sorry, for asking just trying to understand... :confused3

It really varies that's why you have seen so many different posts. My 2 teens went to MGM (morning)EMH and were hassed that they only had one key. They were let in though.

I've been to (morning)EMH's where they don't ask for any room key or just one.

Evening EMH they are alot stricker. They have always asked for tickets for all members of the party. Children older the 3 will be issued a room key when you check in if they are listed on your ressie. If they are not listed you will have problems if they don't get issued a room key.

They don't scan it just to look to see if it has valid dates.

And, as you said, even THAT varies.

Many report that the CM's DID scan the room-key at PM EMH (to keep "others" from using it again, later.)

Here's how EMH works for all parks.

Look up the POSTED open and close times for any day, any park.
Only WDW resort guests staying on-property will be allowed EHM privileges and it COSTS NOTHING EXTRA to attend the EMHs.
There are slightly different situations for MORNING and EVENING EMH's.

-------MORNING EMH FACTS--------------------------------------
If it is a MORNING EMH, then WDW resort guests staying on-property will be allowed entry to THAT park on THAT day starting ONE HOUR before the posted opening time.
At least ONE person in your party should have a room key-card with them (sometimes EACH person needs to show one) to verify your current hotel status and gain entry.
So, only WDW resort guests will be ALLOWED INTO the park.
Once inside, only selected attractions will be open.
See the official WDW website for the latest attractions that will be open during EMH.

-------EVENING EMH FACTS--------------------------------------
If it is a EVENING EMH, then WDW resort guests staying on-property will be allowed to stay and ride attractions at THAT park on THAT day for THREE HOURS after the posted closing time.
You do NOT have to be in the park BEFORE scheduled closing time.
You CAN enter the park at any time during EMH and still get a wrist-band.
You can leave and re-enter the park at will (just like any normal time).

(So, YES, if MK is sched. to close at midnight, the EMH will run til 3AM! Yep, that's 3 in the morning. No, its not a mistake, that would be 3 full hours after the posted time. 3AM for a posted 12mid close-time. 3AM, yes sir!)

EACH guest (except for very small children) will need to show a room key-card to a CM at special "EMH kiosks" set up in various locations throughout the park, and a wristband will be snapped on by the CM to each adult and child.
The ride CMs will check these at each attraction before allowing guests to enter the queue.
So, even though non-resort guests may still be INSIDE the park, only those with wrist-bands will be allowed to ride any open EMH attractions.
See the official WDW website for the latest attractions that will be open during EMH.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
You can enter the parks for EMH EVENINGS anytime... during "regular" hours, or even during the actual extended EMH hours.

This 1-hour morning EMH and 3-hour evening EMH rule applies at all 4 parks until further notice from WDW.
Enjoy!

When we were there last October, they did actually scan each 'key to the world' card before issuing the holder an EMH wrist band. The CM's had hand held scanners that they swiped the cards through to insure that the cards could not be handed off and re-used by multiple persons. Each person over the age of 3 years needed to have their own key card.

Sometimes an individual CM may let it slide, but don't count on getting lucky! Wiser to always carry your cards into the parks with you, if you want to ride the attractions during EMH.

Excellent info! Thanks!

Hey this may be a dumb question (can you tell I've only been to WDW just once!!!) but isn't your ticket on your key card -- or was that just the way we did it and not the same for everyone --I was just trying to figure out how someone would be in the park without their resort key? Maybe they had other tickets into the park?

Some are, some aren't.
For instance, we have ANNUAL PASSES.
We make several trips per year.
My room-key-card, of course, is different each trip.

Same here, AP+, DVC members....and we need to use our room keys and our AP's to get in on EMH's! But if you bought a package deal through disney, your key to your room is your ticket to the parks!

Oh -- I should have figured annual passes!!! You lucky peoples ... annual passes! Now I have an annual pass to Kings Dominion here in No. Va ... but not the same ... just a mere shadow of the wonder and magic of WDW. :teeth:

Thanks for the info!

My worry is that we have five in our room but only four listed. One is a small child that I dont feel we need an extra room for only one person to sleep in. If they scan our key will they see that there is only four listed and not allow the other to ride? Or throw us out from the park? Flame me know for not listing the small child. I am glad Disney finally made bigger rooms at the Values. I wish they opened sooner and I wouldnt have this worry. Thanks for the help...

In the first place, small children are usually FREE in your room.
So when you check in, make SURE to get a room-card issued for EVERY member of your party.
You can only get a wrist-band on a ONE-PER-CARD basis.
You can't just use (for instance) "MOM's" card and get all the wrist-bands for the family.
BTW, the child does not need ever to CARRY his/her own card, but Mom/Dad must HAVE it with them when getting a wrist-band.

Since children under the age of three do not require a park admission ticket, I don't think that the CMs would give you any trouble about a small child in that age range not wearing a wrist band for EMH attractions--provided they are with adults who do have the wrist bands on. Of course I could be wrong (it's just a guess, not based upon personal experience). This is assuming that by 'small child', you mean an under 3 y/o toddler or baby.

If the child is older than that, then please be prepared for the potential consequences of the choices you have made. (Not judging--just warning... because you may indeed get caught.)

Just got back. Didn't do any morning EMH's but did do evenign EMH. They did scan every members card before giving them a wrist band. Also they did check at each ride for your wrist band.
