We're doing Disney from June 21-28 (4/3 special at POFQ). I've always taken a still picture digital camera (7.1 MP Kodak - I know it's old, sue me :D), but I've recently invested in a hand-held Mini-DV video camera (Panasonic GS29) and was wondering what would be the better way with a wife and kid - the still camera or the video camera?

Take them both. We've never taken our JVC HD Video camera because I use the still pics to create a dvd. But I want to mix in some live video this year with the still pictures.

We always take both. DW, DD, and I all use the still camera, and when I'm not using it, I use the video camera. When we get home, I merge still and video and create a DVD.

you beat me to asking!!! dh and i are discussuing this very thing. i wan to just take the digital that has taping abilities with sound but he wants to take both. i can see his point, but the video camera is almost 4 yrs old and a bit big so what to do with it when were on rides? or leaving it a the hotel? oy the dilemma!!!

both.

I was recently looking at the video for our trip from three years ago. My daughter had just turned three. For some reason she had this thing about pinching noses on the non-face characters (thankfully only non-face characters). Chip and Dale were still at CM then and one of them started playing with her nose. That's not something we would have gotten with a still camera.

On our last trip, my son was playing around with the sword in the stone. He posed and a still camera would have picked up the pose. All of a sudden the sword started to come out. His expression changed instantly. Another moment that a still camera would not have captured.

I took my mom, brother and daughter two years ago and video taped everything (even the rides you are not suppose to video...shhhh). I came home and downloaded an inexpensive editing program, adding funny titles and disney music from CD's and gave it to them for Christmas presents. The best thing I ever did, we watch them all the time and relive all the funny moments. Also, I have video that was transferred from 16mm from when I made my first trip to Disneyland when I was 5, LOVE IT! Your child will thank you some day.

I agree with maples123. I always take our still camera and my new Sony HD video camera. I have 8mm movies of myself when I was younger, however no sound.

I have no movies at all of my trips to Disney when I was younger, oh to see that in movies. We take pictures a lot in the park, however some moments arise when I am glad I have my video camera.

I take video of character dinners and my wife takes pictures with the kids and the characters. My be over kill, but I know the kids will love the video.

Hopet that helps.

The thing is, I really didn't want to lug the both of them around all day. I've been reading up on PhotoPass, but was told not to be dependent on it, so I'll take them both and try to utilize all three.

I take loads of pictures, and one DV video cassette. In my opinion, the pictures are nice, but nothing captures the fun of the vacation like a video. The sound and motion adds tremendously to the experience. It's quicker to flip through pictures, but the video is the best.

i havent read up on photopass- or the changes to it. but i do know when we went in 2005 i handed them my card after waiting to get pics with pooh for about 45 minutes. got to the front of the park after the day was done to pick them up and they werent on there! they did ofer me to go back at that very momment and they could send me in first to get mine redone but i was wayyyy to tired to bother.

I have a small digital camera that takes great video with sound. It's a Casio Exlim --- 7.2mp. It's teeny, actually. I think it was right about $200 more than a year ago, so it wouldn't be more than that. I take multiple memory cards, because I don't want to slow the camera function down with huge memory --- I take a 4, a 2gig and 2 1 gig cards, that way I can take pretty much all the video I want, and take pictures and not have to worry. It's worked out REALLY well.
