Still a wait with boarding group?

Have a last minute question. We have a boarding group for Web Slingers today. Estimated wait time is 55 minutes from now. Which would be at 5pm. We have dinner reservations in downtown Disney at 5:15 🤦🏼‍♀️ Is there still a wait when the boarding group is called? If so how long?

It was weeks ago, but we had about a 30 minute wait once our BG was called for Web Slingers. So, there can be a wait. But hopefully someone with more recent info can weigh in.

Yeah, last weekend the wait around 8:15pm was estimated at 80 minutes. It can be LONG. Just go after dinner. Screenshot your QR codes for boarding and explain that you were at dinner when your group was called. They will let you in late.

Even though the app says boarding group expires 1 hour after called... the boarding pass code is still on your phone. So you can still successfully scan your boarding group. Just show your boarding group ticket on your phone and you should be good. Talk to a CM if there are issues. Wait times will vary. If you pass by WS and you see that the line wraps around towards the Spiderman show.. then that's about an hour wait. If the line ends around where they are scanning boarding groups, then that's about 45 min.

It also depends on it the backstage area is being used for the line. It can be 20-30 mins from the time they scan you, to 45 to an hour if they have wrapped around backstage. I'd go eat, they have let us in in the past after the hour. But I would hate to have someone count on getting in later.

Okay, so I know this is late for the OP, but this is for anyone else who is interested: Be sure to be prepared for a long line. WS was down for about 2 hours on my day, and I waited about 80 minutes. Thank GOD my wait was in the evening, as the queue is all outside with no shade. Make sure you eat beforehand and bring plenty of water and snacks just in case.

For ROTR, there was not much of a wait at all during my time. Maybe 5-10 minutes, all inside well within the queue, at most other than walking the long queue. It's more shaded and a lot of it is inside. But when I walked by later in the day, the queue was backed up outside. So it's all YMMV.

Just got back also. Agree with the wait times that other posters shared with WS. The wait can be really long. I’ll just add that if you get an early BG, you’ll go all the way to the front with almost no wait. 1-40. Also, the ride breaks down, often. Almost as much as ROTR. Our last night, we used a multiple experience pass given to us because of an earlier issue on WS. Got in line at 8:15,got in the building around 9:00(park closing). we got stuck on the ride and they closed it down. Took over 45 minutes to get us off. DISneyland closed at 10:00 and it was closed by the time we got out.

Was there yesterday. Took about 75 minutes from our group being called at 5:30 pm to getting on the ride. (And the ride did stop 3 times while we were on it, luckily not for too long, but still not great.) Flashbacks to first weekend for Rise when the line/waiting times were very long. And it was hot yesterday so all that time waiting in the sun was pretty miserable, especially once you realize the line extends to the backstage area.

I have a lot of thoughts about WS so will search for a thread where I can leave a review. But least for my group. would say don't go in with expectations (or even hopes) too high.

Same experience! We must have been at same time. We waited l2 hours in crazy hot sun only for it to breakdown and restart and breakdown again. We were underwhelmed

That section where you think you're getting close and turn the corner to realize NOPE and THEN also that you're moving "outside" again into the backstage area was just beyond demoralizing haha. I always say Disney is good at "hiding" the reality of their lines, but that was just too much lol.

So for context, our first time riding ROTR was Sunday of opening weekend which was an all-time high day for breakdowns. We waited something around 14 hours from getting our boarding group at 7 until we were able to ride. We were tired, cranky, frustrated at how having no idea what was happening all day affected our ride planning...and even with all that we got off the ride feeling it was so worth the wait! (Still do - luckily have now ridden it 5 times.) So just adding that to show we're not the type to get annoyed simply due to waiting or long lines. And understanding they are two very different types of experiences. Like you wrote, however, just found it underwhelming.

Agree 100%. turning the corner and seeing the backstage area open is very demoralizing.
Also agree that if both of these rides work properly, they’re really good. Got really lucky on WS.

This! We started outside wrapped around all the way to the the Avenger campus entrance (past Spider-Man show) then finally made it to the “official” queue maze only to turn that corner and see that! At that point it had already been an hour. Then another hour .5 in that line until we got inside to then sit there for about 20 min with nothing happening and THEN they told us it broke down. Then it restarted, we got to pre-room, did that and then it broke down again!

I was very lucky that neither rode broke down when I was actually on them, at least.

OP here. We didn’t end up riding that night. It was too late for our 3 year old. Two days later we were back in California Adventure and secured a boarding group in the am. Boarding group 38. We ended up waiting just about an hour in line. The backstage area was open. The ride broke down while we were in line. Luckily we were in a shady area. The ride was fun but I won’t be riding again until it has a standby wait posted or a fast pass. I am not into waiting more than 30-45 minutes for a ride. Not worth it to me. Wish they would bring back max pass, this trip was rough with the lines.
Thanks everyone for all the replies! It definitely helped us decide what to do.

Wow, I realized we got lucky on Sunday, but I didn’t realize how lucky. We lucked into being right there when the ride reopened after an hours-long shutdown and walked straight to the pre-show, which we watched with only five other people in the room. It was 11 minutes from entering the queue to exiting the ride.

We really enjoyed it, but I am not sure we’d have felt the same way if we’d waited an hour in the sun! Good to know for next time…

We rode WS 4 times in 4 days. The only time we had essentially no wait was when we had BG 5. The days we had afternoon BGs, we waited between 30-45 minutes (the longest was when the ride broke down while we were in line).

Was on WS this evening. I noticed it had broken down twice around 4-5pm. We entered the queue at 6:33pm (around the time were were notified), got to the door at 7:04. The preshow was about 5 minutes and then the queue to get on the actual ride. We were outta the ride at 7:24. I felt we waited longer than expected. RofR was a quicker queue inmo.

The queue snaked to a back part of the lot I feel to accommodate the boarding groups. There was unfinished flooring with asphalt.

What is also demoralizing about the backlot is that on a really hot day, the queue is longer in the backlot as people line the perimeter of the backlot seeking shade vs just making a shorter loop where the CMs have placed umbrellas. If they put ropes around the umbrellas, then the wait from the backlot would be shorter (but then the wait at the entrance would be longer).

We didn’t even try for a WS boarding pass this morning. The wait was so long and so hot yesterday that when 6:59 rolled around this morning, my DH and DDs all said, “Pass.” And I pretty much agreed with them. It’s very cool ride technology, but everyone in my family decided we prefer TSMM. And we are a huge Marvel family!!!

Agreed. Of course, I understand the desire to try a new ride...it's only natural! But the ride is very underwhelming, and not worth any significant wait time. It feels shorter than midway mania, and when compared to the jewel that is ROTR....oof! Sadly, we weren't very impressed with the rest of the land, either. When we went, we were so peeved to be kept out of Guardians due to the ridiculously long line into the land. I want to try something from Pym's, but I'm not going to make a whole lot of effort when we go in Sept.
