Still a sling bag?

I love this backpack. I'm happy we cruised during the short time it was available.

We also got a different backpack on our EBTA a couple of years ago:

Dang, wish they still gave out that instead! This is our 6th cruise now and will be the 5th sling bag

Call me crazy, but I could care less about 90% of the gifts they give away. Most of it ends up trashed or clutter in my house. I am platinum, I would much prefer something of an experience over stuff.

I liked the beach bags. You could take them with you when you were in port and they easily held towels, sunscreen, water and shopping purchases. Now we bring one of the beach bags for our pool/port days. I am not a fan of the sling bags.

I would love a themed popcorn bucket. Costs them almost nothing to make, and it would make me feel like I am getting something of actual value that I can use on the cruise, and if I don't want to waste suitcase space I can toss it without feeling too wasteful.

I like the sling bag. We’ve given away 5 or 6 because I have friends who like them too! Yes, that was the gift on our NYE cruise last week. However, I would be happy with a new gift.

Years ago the CC gift was a diary book, brown cover. I use it for cruises and always go to the Captain’s signings and get him to sign it.

Well, as platinum we also do enjoy the bottle of wine. We often pair it with the cheese plate, or have it delivered to the dining room.

One has to wonder why it doesn't get changed. It's probably not pricing as there are any number of gifts they could do for about the same cost.

My guess is that some part of it relates to on board storage and ease of transport to rooms by cast members. The other (bigger?) thing is likely that any change would be greeted by at least as many (more?) howls than just sticking with what they always do. Change is rarely met with happiness in the magical world of Disney.

Instead of leaving it behind, maybe gift it to someone new on the cruise, or to a friend at home?

We tried to gift ours... they turned us down because the people in the room prior to them left theirs behind. Nobody wants them anymore.

DCL needs to lower the quantity ordered but first they need to distribute the current gift - LOL.
Personally, I don't mind the sling bad but I don't see how you fit a towel in it - seems very small to me.

If you fold it in half, then in thirds, then roll it, you can get into the bottom of the sling bag. There is enough room for an SLR camera or a couple of bottles of water, sunscreen and maybe a snack or two after that. There's also an outside pocket which will fit your watch or phone. If you really wanted to, you could probably actually get 2 towels in there (instead of all the other stuff), but that's it.

Bobbiwoz - as a fellow Platinum, I've always wondered - do they charge you the corkage fee if you have the free bottle delivered to dinner?

We give ours to first-timers or to people who have more than one child but receive only one bag.

I think the sling bag sticking around for so long is really taking away from the purpose of rewarding repeat cruisers. I think it would be much savvier to have a yearly branded gift. It would satisify those like me who want variety and motivate people to take an annual trip to keep their collection current - win/win for DCL.

We have the sling bag, the black and blue backpack, the red/black zipper top beach tote, the red/bag drawstring, and a couple beach bags (the ugly yellow one and the nicer burlap one). The sling bag is my least favorite. The red/black zipper top beach tote has been the most useful.

We have the beach bags, backpack and a couple of sling bags. Each always seems to get used for something during one of our cruises. We bring them home and if don't want it, donate it to Savers or Big Brother/Big Sister etc. Someone that needs it or wants it will find it.
