Are they allowed in carry on luggage? Are they alowed in the mail? I have a coworker that collects match books and is BEGGING me to bring her some new ones.

Are you reffering to Disney matchbooks?
I don't believe they are available anymore. I use to collect them (still have them) but have not seen any in several years.

WAIT A SECOND!

Please post again and be very precise with your language. "Strike anywhere" matches are the type of matches that don't need any special surface (like a strip on the back of a match book) in order to be lit. They are also sometimes known as stage matches because they are popular to use in stage productions. Strike anywhere matches can be lit be striking them against just about any surface that isn't smooth and polished.

Strike anywhere matches are not permitted on aircraft, period. Not in carry-ons, not in checked luggage.

Yes you can carry on and/or put in your checked lugguge

Even if you're talking about regular matches, this is incorrect!

NO MATCHES OF ANY KIND IN CHECKED LUGGAGE.

Up to 4 books of "regular" matches may be in carry-on luggage.

Check out www.tsa.gov and click the appropriate link for the full list of prohibited items.

I thought that the stike anywere ones were the ones in the books that you lit agaisnt the strip. Thats the ones I meant.

Gotcha. You're talking about "safety matches." Like I said in the post above, you can carry on 4 books of safety matches, but can't put ANY in checked luggage.

You may say no but the airlines do allow it and we ask everytime we check our luggage. We alway have matches and lighters in our front little pocket of our checked luggage, just incase they don't allow it they don't need to go through everything to find them. Tampa is the only airport that has taken our lighters in the last 2 years, except the trip in November. I have also carried on more then 4 packs in my pocketbook.

Again, it may be on the website (I have not checked it) but you would hope that the agents would give you the correct info.

It really doesn't make much difference what the AIRLINE allows, because they don't have the final say. The TSA has the final say, as they are the ones who screen checked luggage and carry-on luggage for restricted materials.
