Steven Curtis Chapman on Larry King Live

Oh how I wish someone would have convinced them to not talk to Larry King. Their family deserves a better interview than that.

I'm watching it right now. Larry is butchering the interview, he keeps cutting them off before they've answered a question.

It's such a sad story. Hopefully, their strength as a family and their continued faith in God can help others going through personal tragedies.

I watched both interviews, I think it was hard for Larry King as he's not a person of faith - he kept asking if they were angry. It makes me wonder if somehow they were supposed to do the interview with him to help him somehow. He did mess up Maria's name a few times, but I think the family had more latitude than they did in the ABC interview.

About the accident - there was so much confusion, even Will (driving) and Shoannah (older sister who saw the accident) have different stories of what happened. Will seemed like such a gentle spirit in both interviews.

Interesting - the parents and the 2 of the 3 older kids all have tattoos in remembrance of Maria.

Wow - the "See" story - on LKL, Steven said, in addition to the word, she had also drawn a flower with 6 petals, with one of the petals colored in. They have 6 children, and only one of them is whole now.

Steven refused to make the accident about the "bad SUV's" like so many in the same situation would.

They had just gotten home from China a couple of weeks before Maria died, and mom fell in love with twin girls there. I have a feeling the family is going to be growing soon! Obviously LK has NO idea of the stature of SCC in christian music - he asked if the house was big enough for more babies!

What a healing process, the older daughter is getting married, in their yard in October.

I cried through pretty much the entire show, even though I've seen all the videos and such already. I wanted to reach through the television, however, and smack Larry King for not even being able to get Maria's name right, not once, but THREE times he called her Mary!

If you go to www.showhope.com you will see an area dedicated to Maria, with photos, videos, her story, and more. The opening page of the area is her flower drawing and each petal has one aspect of the site for her. It is amazing to see how God works through the hands of a little child. Looking back now you can see the signs that she was preparing her family for this, but nobody could have known at the time.

Shaohannah's Hope has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in memorial donations for Maria's Miracle Fund. Everyone always looks for the possible good that can come from a tragedy, and I firmly believe God put this little girl with the Chapman Family because she was to be an instrument of hope and a voice for orphan children everywhere. Think of the hundreds, if not thousands of children who will be going to forever families directly as a result of the grants they are able to provide through this foundation. As the Chapman's mentioned, the adoption process is a very expensive one, and is often the barrier that keeps a family from pursuing it.

Think of it as a paiting, as Caleb so eloquently stated in his talk about Maria. You are close up, looking at Maria and her loss, in the center of the painting, but as you back away and begin to see the bigger picture in all its' glory, you will start to see the widespread impact this little 5 yr old girl will have on thousands of lives, not just now, but for years to come.

Thanks for posting this. I remember SCC on KLOVE a couple of years ago raising money for Shaohannah's Hope. This is a good time to raise awareness with the Olympics. Little girls are still being abandoned in China. Maria had a better five years on earth with the Chapmans than she would have had without them. That family and many others she does not know will be blessed by Maria for years to come. She definitely had a place in the world.

I didn't see this interview last night (Had no idea who these people were!) but I've seen other LK interviews and he really needs to retire! It seems like he does no prep or research for the interview at all and just wings it. That could be where the "was this preventable" question came from, he may have assumed that they had some sort of awarness campaign that they wanted to promote (like installing backup cameras or additional mirrors).

I saw the interview and I was very moved by the commitment to their faith. I don't know if I would be that strong after such a tragedy especially so soon.

I agree with everyone else, LK shouldn't have been interviewing them. His questions were not good and he cut them off and almost 'dismissed' their comments at times.

There are just some very faithful people who just know that what God gives us children it is a gift, and he can call those children home anytime. I think it takes an incredibly faithful person. My aunt was like this. My cousin was killed by being hit by a car when he was 9yo. I can still see my aunt, holding onto the kitchen chair, someone is telling her to just cry, and she couldn't do it. She wanted to believe God chose Michael home for a reason. I am sure she eventually did cry...but I will always remeber how she could not cry.

Sadly I missed both the GMA and LKL shows. Was reading the transcript of the GMA interview yesterday though and it had me in tears. Printed it off and took it home, was reading part of it to DH last night and I couldn't get passed the part where Steven said that he didn't even remember doing it but the uncle said as he was pulling out of the drive way headed to the hospital that he (SCC) rolled down his window and yelled with all his might "Will Franklin your father loves you"

Continued prayers for the family as they continue to move forward. Praise to our Lord for taking such a tragic event and using it to bring so much good to others.

both interviews are on you tube to view. I don't have access to the site at work, but if you search for "stephen curtis chapman good morning america" you'll find the entire interview, which I thought was much better than the LK show, just because Robin is a much more compassionate soul than LK who, I think, was in over his head in trying to deal with matters of faith when he has none.

Beautifully said. Thank you. I cried the entire show. The Chapman family is a a wonderful example of grace and hope as they lean on the everlasting arms of their Savior.
