Steve Irwin (crocodile hunter) dies..........

There has been someone else whose work is just as important as Steve Irwin and he is american as well. Jim Cronin who has been doing such a large amount of work in stoppin the illegal trade in Gibbons, chimps and Orangatangs died in america on march 17th. His widow is continuing in his work.
Going back to Bindi, of course she wants to do the work it will make her mummy happy and when you are that small and have lost a father its understandable. BUT it is her mothers job to allow her to grieve for her father and grow up to be what ever she wants to be, look at Drew Barrymore her mother pushed her into the showbiz life and she was a drug addict by the time she was 12, if they are not careful this is the future for this little girl. What happens in a few years if she was to choose to be a doctor is the ghost of her dead father going to be used to force her into the career that they have chosen for her.

Sort of off topic but has anyone seen the Emily Yeung segment on Playhouse Disney? She is from Canada (I think). Today she was talking about her uncle, she said "he lives in Australia and pets kangaroos and he gets to feed crocodiles food without a wall between them". I'm wondering if she is related to Terri & Steve somehow?

This is for those who are intersted in what's been happening with Terri and the children.

Nutsy ~ Thanks for taking the time to post that article. It is nice to see Terri with a smile on her face again. I was just thinking about them the other day and I can't believe it has already been 7 months already. Every time I see his show on the Animal Planet I still feel like it is so hard to believe he is gone. :sad1:

You're welcome and believe me I know just what you mean about having a hard time believing that Steve has gone when watching him on tv. My son watches Steve every morning before he heads off to work and the times I'
ve seen him, it's like he's still with us and I really feel that's good.

The Dalai Lama, right, meets the Irwin family, Bindi, second from right, Bob, and mother Terry, left.

About 5000 people have gathered at the late Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo on Queensland's Sunshine Coast to hear the Dalai Lama talk about kindness to animals and the environment.
Monks at the 71-year-old exiled Tibetan spiritual leader's Dharamsala monastery are friends with the Irwin family.
Terri Irwin and daughter Bindi today joined with the Dalai Lama at the talk, being held in the zoo's 'Crocoseum'.
The Dalai Lama will also use the visit to launch Kindness Week, a community project initiated by Queensland-based palliative care service Karuna Hospice Services.
This afternoon about 15,000 people are expected to fill the Brisbane Entertainment Centre to hear the Dalai Lama speak on the issues of compassion and kindness.
The free tickets were snapped up within two days of becoming available.
Premier Peter Beattie yesterday confirmed he would not be meeting the Dalai Lama as he had business on the Gold Coast and will be meeting with visiting New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark.
But Queensland Governor Quentin Bryce will meet with the spiritual leader.
Meanwhile, federal coalition MPs have dismissed criticism by the Chinese government of Prime Minister John Howard's decision to meet with the Dalai Lama.
Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd met with the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader yesterday and Mr Howard is expected to meet with him later this week.
The Chinese government has expressed "strong dissatisfaction" with the Australian government for holding meetings with the Dalai Lama during his 11-day tour of Australia.
West Australian Liberal MP Don Randall today backed Mr Howard's decision to meet the Dalai Lama.
"I met the Dalai Lama last time he was in Australia and I think he's an absolutely delightful person and we're not going to be stood over by the Chinese," Mr Randall told reporters.
"We don't ever get stood over by some foreign power, certainly not China."
Queensland Liberal MP Cameron Thompson said it was wrong of China to criticise Mr Howard and Mr Rudd for meeting the Dalai Lama.
"I'm glad that they did (meet him) because to a lot of Australians the Dalai Lama is a very important person," Mr Thompson told reporters.
"This guy's the Dalai Lama, it's just not right for a country to say to another, 'You shall not go and talk to that person'. It's just not right."
Australian Greens leader Bob Brown also supported the meetings and said Mr Howard should act as an "honest broker between China and exiled Tibetans".
"Many Australians would like to see John Howard take it a step further and become an honest broker between Beijing and the exiled Tibetans, to get the Tibetan wish for autonomy on the road and to resolve this issue which is now more than half a century old," Senator Brown told reporters.

Nutsy, thanks for posting the pic. I recently purchased Steve's official tribute magazine from the Australia Zoo. I found it on the Zoo's website (they have a huge section of merchandise for sale). The magazine has a beautiful cover of Steve and Sui.

Thank you for the updates Nutsy.

Amazing how much Bob looks like Steve. :goodvibes

Yeah, I couldn't agree more. Young Bob is very much like his Dad. Let's hope that's a blessing for Terri.

You guys may have heard this already, but I thought I'd post it anyway as it really is quite a good read.

Terri Irwin has hit out at critics who accuse her of pushing eight-year-old daughter, Bindi, into the media spotlight.

Irwin also demonstrated first-hand today how protective she was of Bindi, cutting off an American television reporter who persisted in asking Bindi repeated personal questions about her late father, Steve "Crocodile Hunter" Irwin.

"I don't know that I want to go down that line," Irwin cut in after the Los Angeles TV reporter asked Bindi three consecutive questions about her famous father.

American-born Irwin, 42, and Australian Tourism Minister Fran Bailey took centre stage at the press conference at an LA hotel today where Irwin was announced as Australia's news tourism ambassador.

Media commentators in Australia and the US have been critical of Bindi's busy media campaign since her father's death from a stingray attack in September last year.
Rupert Murdoch's popular 24-hour US cable TV news network has been particularly critical of Irwin and her handlers, with fiery on-air debates.

Irwin told reporters today she did not see the Fox News reports, but had been told about them.
She said Bindi, who is home-schooled and lives inside the family's Queensland animal park, Australia Zoo, had an easier lifestyle than many other children.

"Every child is an individual and every parent needs to approach it uniquely and individually," Irwin, explaining the way she raises Bindi, told reporters.
Bindi, who finished year 3 last year, was an A-grade student, she said.
"I wouldn't say Bindi has it easy, because I have to make her go to school," she said.
"She doesn't always want to go to school.
"But, when it comes to extra-curricular activities I don't have to make her sing and dance. She asks to.

"Certainly I want to help encourage her in whatever direction she wants to take."
During her US tour for the G'Day USA festival, which includes two concerts with The Wiggles in LA and New York, Bindi's exposure has been restricted.

In TV interviews on CNN's Larry King and the Ellen Degeneres talkshow, Irwin began both interviews, with Bindi brought on later.
Bindi did not appear on Jay Leno's talkshow, staying backstage while her mother sat before the cameras.

At the Tourism Australia press conference, Bindi sat at the rear of the room away from the cameras until the end of questions, when she posed for photos and answered a few media questions.

Yesterday, Bindi had a day off from the media spotlight.
For fun, she "climbed trees" on the grounds of her LA hotel, Irwin said.

"She has no problem being an eight-year-old little girl," Irwin said.
"Ginger, her teddy bear, is travelling with us and has her own suitcase.
"We are travelling well and as normally as a family who lives in a zoo can be."

The family was planning a trip to Disneyland for Bindi and her brother Bob, three, who has been largely kept clear of cameras during the US trip.

"I think Bindi's schedule is a lot easier than a lot of children's," Irwin explained.
"... There's a lot of kids who have soccer practice, piano lessons, dance lessons and parents start feeling like a chauffeur and kids start feeling overwhelmed.
"Bindi is certainly not like that.

"Our evenings (at home in Queensland) are together as a family and we are really blessed to be able to be in a situation where we can take time off like that."
Irwin also gave further details today about why she decided to destroy the videotape containing footage of her husband's death.
She said if the tape was used for educational purposes, it may have been kept, but she feared it could be used to sensationalise the Crocodile Hunter's death.

"I couldn't see a point to the tape," Irwin said.
"I couldn't see anything but sensational interest in it.
"It certainly wasn't what Steve was about.
"He wasn't a showman for the case of being a showman.
"He was an educator and a conservationist and, if that message didn't come through, there would be no reason to air it."

You guys may have heard this already, but I thought I'd post it anyway as it really is quite a good read.

Thanks for posting this. I had not read it before. Many thanks for keeping us up-to-date. :thumbsup2

I have seen a few episodes of Bindi's new show and its quite good.

Nutsy, thank you for posting the updates. It's really nice to hear how the Irwin's are doing.:)

Thank you Nutsy for your updates.:goodvibes I can't believe almost a year has gone by since his death.:sad2: Our girls and I have watched My, Daddy the Crocodile Hunter. It was very well done, but made us all a little sad at the same time.

I too want to thank you for the updates on the Irwin family. I had missed My Daddy the Crocodile Hunter during the first airing - but caught it yesterday - on Father's Day - how fitting to watch Bindi talk about her Daddy... she is definitely a talented and smart girl - Steve is so evident in her. I know he is proud!

I still get misty (ok - teary) when I think of Steve not being with his family and his tv family anymore.... :sad1:

Saw a commercial this morning for a talking Steve doll, then they mentioned other Irwin toys. Selling at Toys R US and other fine retailers.
