Stephen King books for 14yo

I just posted a thread for a guessing game about all time dark movies that your DS and your family may enjoy. It is by MMs candy company for Halloween
Here is the link:

You will be hooked on it! Just for Fun for whole family

I started reading King's books when I was in 6th grade, beginning with Carrie and The Shining.

I am so glad I found this thread. My DD is 13, in 7th grade and she's been wanting to read SK books. I have THe STand & The Talisman. She watched about half of The STand TV movie last year and loved it. I think I will give her my book to read.

I know I was in junior high when I read my first SK book. It was Thinner.

Thanks everyone for the ideas - I think I'll start with a few short stories and "The Stand" , "The Shining" and/or "Salem's Lot". DS12 is also interested, so I have a feeling that we'll add to our collection quickly. Now if I can oly get DS17 reading again!!

Cool-Beans - what I meant by a strong reader is that a 500+ page book doesn't bother him - he's read all of the Lord of the Rings and Redwall books, so I know he can stick with longer books. I realize that SK isn't difficult literature, but I almost bought "IT" for him and the size of it concerned me.
That's why I thought recommendations would help me choose - and I notice that not many have suggested "IT"!

Thanks again!!

Love Stephen King, I didn't find Stephen until I was 24, but I haven't read anything else since.

I just picked up Night Shift. (Its a collection of 20 short stories)
Haven't started reading it yet, just not in the mood to read right now.

I am a huge SK book fan, but never likes the movies. I think the movies went for too much of the horror/gore factor.

If he tries to read the Dark Tower series, please tell him not to give up during the first book, The Gunslinger. It is very very slow, but very worth it to get to the other books. The series is awesome.

And I agree, The Eye of the Dragon is a good start for a 14yr old.
The Talisman and Black House too.

When I was 14, I read all the SK books that were in print.

Back then, my favorites were Carrie and Dead Zone. Dead Zone is still one of my favorites of his.

I recommend The Bachman Books, with The Long Walk being the best story. I think King's novels which don't feature anything supernatural tend to be his better stories.
