Day 1
Day 2 Monday 1st September
DFs watch alarm went off at 7, and I managed to stumble out of bed at 7.20. We were down to breakfast by 8. There are two breakfast locations at the New York Hotel. Today we were in the Park Side Diner. There was plenty of selection of food bacon, scrambled eggs, croissants, yoghurts, fruits etc. My mother made some cheese and ham rolls for us to take into the park with us for lunch!
We got to Walt Disney Studios at twenty to 9.The door to Studio 1 was already open, which it hadnt been when wed arrived before the opening last time we were there in November 2006. I was a bit annoyed about that, since it meant the queue for Crushs Coaster had developed already. Id thought that DF and I could make a dash for there once Studio 1s door opened, since weve got quite adept at crowd running at WDW! As it was, we got into the queue and once the park opened we had a 30-40 minute wait before we got on.
It was a REALLY good ride! DM and I went forwards, while DF was backwards. DM had been a bit apprehensive about it, since she doesnt really like spinning rides (she flat-out refuses to go on the Mad Hatters Tea Party!), but she thoroughly enjoyed herself. It didnt spin too much, just enough to make it a bit more interesting. It was a little too short, though I find that about most rides I enjoy!
Rock n Roller Coaster only had a 10 minute queue so DF and I went on that (RnRC is another that we cant get DM on!).
Once wed done that, we got Fast Passes for the Tower of Terror (although I still wasnt sure I wanted to do it; I went on it once, when I was 9 or 10, in MGM Studios as it was then and havent been on it since. So obviously I didnt enjoy it all that much!), and then over to Cinemagique, since there was a showing about to start.
We all really love Cinemagique. I think its an underrated attraction. Its so clever, how they incorporate Martin Short into the footage, and how they move between each film so smoothly. Definitely a good way to pass half an hour!
Since it wasnt long before our FP time, we just went into a shop in Studio 1. We got a couple of keyrings and the 15th Anniversary CD (which Im listening to right now!).
Then it was Tower of Terror time! DM had heard a lot about the theming, so she came with DF and me as far as she could without going on the ride.
There was a little girl, whose family was going in the same elevator as DF and I, who was crying and didnt want to go on the ride, so DM looked after her until we came off the ride. Which, by the way, really wasnt as bad as Id built it up to be! In fact, it was quite tame. We didnt drop nearly as far as Id expected to! I came off and assured DM that shed be fine on there!
By the time wed come off ToT, Moteurs ... Action was about to start, so we hurried over to there. Weve seen this show several times, so the talking bits are losing their interest for us now, but we still love the stunts! Theyre so impressive!
By now we were a little tired, so we left the park and went back to the hotel for an hour or so to recuperate, buying some water and biscuits in a Relay in the train station on the way. We ate the rolls that DM had made at breakfast, and got to Disneyland Park around 4pm.
The first thing we did was grab ourselves Fast Passes for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (a family favourite!), and then DF and I went on Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril.
Its really far too rough. I preferred it when it backwards it was a far more unusual ride that way. Im not sure why they changed it, but I wish theyd change it back!
By then it was nearly time for the Once Upon a Dream parade, so we went into Fantasyland to find somewhere to stand. We went up into the queuing area of Its a Small World, at the start of the parade. Its quite a good place to stand no one realises how to get up there (you have to go up the beginning of the queue for Its a Small World), youre raised up so you dont have peoples heads obstructing your view, and you can see the first parade float before it actually comes out of the gates!
The floats were really lovely, and Just Like We Dreamed It was a fantastic song (Ive listened to it far too many times on our 15th Anniversary CD!). The stop was a bit disappointing, though nothing in particular happened. The characters wandered a bit, danced a bit, but it didnt seem as if they had anything specific to do. The best part of the stop was the sparkly streamer ribbons that were released at the end! Since we werent along the road, we couldnt get to them, which was a shame. I really quite wanted one!
Since we were already in the queuing area for IASW, we went on that, and then went over to Le Pays des Contes de Fées (or something along those lines!). The queue for that was really short, so we almost walked onto it. Its not a particularly exciting ride, but was quite pleasant. Then we went onto Casey Jr, which wed never done before. Okay, it was rather tame, but it was quite cute and fun, so we all enjoyed it!
After that we went over to Adventure Isle, and did the two bridges Pont Suspendu and Pont Flottant. We also went onto Captain Hooks ship the gate that said Cast Members Only on it was open, and there were lots of people on it.
We made our way back into Frontierland and went on Phantom Manor. I think I prefer Phantom Manor to the Haunted Mansion in WDW the bride storyline is far more clear. Although theres the whole wild west scene, and Ive no idea what thats supposed to have to do with anything!
There were still 15 minutes before our FP for BTMRR, so we went around the Legends of the Wild West Fort. Then it was BTMRR time, which as always was excellent.
We decided to make our way out of the park before it closed, so we could get into Annettes Diner. We didnt have to queue at all we were seated straight away. Our waitress was on rollerskates, and after ordering the servers did a dance to Greased Lightning. After reading other peoples reports of Annettes, I was quite pleased to experience both of these! Our meals were okay, but really nothing special at all. I had the Be Bop burger, DM had a cheeseburger and DF had the chilli cheese burger. DM said her burger was over-cooked and a bit dry. We really didnt think it was worth the price. The only outstanding thing was my strawberry milkshake and even then we found that too expensive!
As we made our way back towards our hotel, we stopped at McDonalds for dessert (far cheaper than Annettes!), and then went into a couple of shops. I got a pair of Converse-style shoes with Mickey heads on. Theyre so gorgeous!
We got back to our room at about 9.30 and all slept soundly!
