Steam Train Tour and Kennedy Space Centre - which camera/lens to take?

Whilst we're away we have a Canon 60D and probably all three lenses 18-55mm, and 55-250mm, and 11-16mm. I'll also have my pocket Canon G11. DH also has a video camera to carry, likewise DD.

DH is going on a day trip to Kennedy Space Centre whilst us girls go shopping. On a another day he is going on the Steam Train Tour at MK whilst we have breakfast in the castle (he will be Princessed out by then :lmao:).

I won't probably need either camera whilst shopping - which would you take to Kennedy, and would you take all lenses if taking the dSLR? Likewise with the Steam Train tour. I would like to have a camera with me for CRT but I'm not fussed at which one - more for DH.

I'd let the hubby take the dslr and all three lenses and you take the G11 (much easier for you to tote too). I would take all 3 lenses to KSC. It's been awhile since I've been there, but remember some of the displays. An ultra-wide angle (the 11-16) would really come in handy there.

Not sure about the steam engine tour as I've never done it, but it wouldn't hurt to take all your lenses. You never know what you might find!

AT KSC, DH will moving from one location to another using their internal bus. So, he won't be carrying the heavy pack with the dSLR and all the 3 lenses all the time. And if you and the girls are going shopping, you won't need the dSLR; your G11 and the video cams will be more than sufficient. Yes, definitely take all three lenses for KSC.

I've never done the Steam Train tour so I don't know whether he'll be sitting most of the time. If that is the case, then he might as well take the dSLR bag with him. It just depends on whether you'll be happy with the G11 for the character shots.

Ultra-Wide Angle (11-16mm) for the Steam Train Tour and for KSC for sure. You are so close to the action that you want as wide a field of view as possible.

He might also want to take the 55-250mm for any distant shots at KSC. KSC is HUGE and there are some things you do not get close to. But the Ultra-Wide

I would also invest in a Canon 50mm f1.8. Inexpensive, but good. You can take some great low-light photos.

Thank you all for replies - my apologies, I thought I had sent a that you already:flower3:

I'll take the G11 with me for even the Princess Breakfast. DH can take the dSLR and lenses with him.

K5jmh - I sent on the day the link to your post to DH whilst at work. He was very appreciate and can't wait for either.

My NASA Pics were taken at the Johnson Space Center (except for the Shuttle and VAB pics), but many of the shots will be similar. Very Close-up.
