We've always flown direct to Florida, but I've seen that quite a few of you do a 1 stop or more flights to bring the cost down, this would certainly help but the friends that are going with us have asked if it would be possible to stay overnight in New York before going to on to WDW so they can see the sights, it would certainly be nice but it's the cost that worries me.

Has anyone done this or know anyone who has, any help would be great. We aren't going till next year but I've been planning this trip for over 6 months now :cool1:

Personally I dont think 1 night would be worth it.

If you have a morning flight and arrive in NY around midday (later if your flight doesn't leave until late morning) by the time you get through customs, travel to the hotel etc your not going to have much time that day, maybe you could get an evening flight the next day down to Orlando so you would have a large chuck of the following day.

If you going to pay for taxis etc, 2 nights wouldn't cost much more than 1 night if you can fit it in.

The minimum number of nights we've done on a stop over is 3 in NY.

Thanks, I'll let them know and we can discuss it, think the kids would want to get to Disney to quick, maybe a stay at the end !

We travled to new york on oyr retun travel last year , we had an 8am flight from orlando which meant we arrived at newark airport just after ten .I made sure I booked a airport hotel which was a marriot great hotel and you can get a free shuttle from the airport , took about 10 minutes .we had drooped bags and where ready for our limo ( surprise for family ) by midday . Limo took us right to the staten island ferry which is free and we went to see the satue of liberty , we also managed to see and go in empire state and times square , then the early start kicked in and we got a taxi back to the airport as we had a 5am start for our flight home the next day .It was a long day but you can get a good feel of the place even with limited time scale

Have done similar from another stopover city - it worked out great. We went straight to bed at a nice hotel at our first stop (around 8pm - 1am to us), then caught the first flight to MCO. We were at our hotel before lunchtime and had already slept the jet lag off so no time was wasted. We also saved hundreds on the flight, even after the hotel cost for our overnight connection. Would do it again...BUT not the sightseeing!
